I wonder how awkward it was for the recruits to have this very friendly and ecstatic Chief RDC walk through their racks.
Something tells me she wouldn't be friendly or ecstatic actually pushing recruits. This video is probably more suited to parents of would-be sailors.
i felt like i was watching the government's version of mtv cribs lmao
exactly what i thought haha
i know... the host is soooooo annoying and needs to get smacked
lol 2-3 minute phone call home?
Try "I'm here, I love you, you'll be getting a box in a few days. good bye."
a total about 19 seconds is more like it.
Yeah my brother is now in bootcamp for the navy and they aren’t aloud to say i love you or anything like that so it is really sad also they have to call you by there name and when my be other called my mom it was like he was reading from a script. He wasnt able to say mom instead he had to say Melissa
Chief: “Now it’s time for me to get back to work.”
Recruits: *sweat nervously*
Hahah
notice at the beginning it says "NAVYformoms" this is for your parents, to make them feel better. this is sugarcoated
Julian Luna it's pretty spot on far as training except for all the classroom hours and the p days they didn't bother with the miserable boring stuff
I want to thank all of those RDCs and instructors I met there, not only for their instruction, but also for reassuring me that I knew I was heading in the right direction in my choice of career path. Good times. Thank you and Bravo Zulu to all those who were and are there building the sailors of tomorrow! Future Seabee right here, hopefully by 2011.
How did your career turn out?
Damn this sht is like mtv cribs
"2-3 minute" phone call? That's new. I got 30 seconds.
That's probably what it feels like.
Ha, me too.
@@ninja-cr1kl No... it really WAS 30 seconds. IF THAT.
Alaskanhigh Wow 😂 30 seconds is crazy
Wow we sent postcards home
HMC Maier was my RDC July09-Sept09. She is a role model of what a real woman in the navy should carry themselves! Hope to see her around the fleet!!!
My grandma dad was on the USS Arizona he is one of them that survived
That’s wild.
She makes it sound like a country club vacation getaway. It may be compared to Marines boot camp, but it's still boot camp.We weren't even off the bus yet and they were already yelling at us.And yes someone said it was only a few second phone call to say we made it.I remember that like it was yesterday.
I love how she added we provide “BRAND” name products
I was in recruit company #136 for 12 weeks starting in March 1967.
This provided me the fundamentals for the next four years, which in turn provided me the fundamentals for the rest of my (successful!) professional life.
Now retired, I can look back with gratitude for all those at the Great Lakes Recruit Command for the great work at help they provided me.
And particular thanks to the Company Commander, Petty Officer 1st Class C E Layne (MR1), who led all of us ‘kids’ through boot camp!!!
I just hope I will pass the ASVAB and become part of the U.S Navy...It's a dream I'm fighting for. God please!
It's fine, man. Trust me. I signed up for it, I know what I'm getting myself into.
I'm sure you did fine.
I am not in but I took the ASVAB and it was not difficult.
Well this is 5 years old so any updates? Did u make it in?
devin johnson
Assuming he did, he’s either completed his enlistment, or reenlisted.
So much has changed since I went through here in 97. This is nothing! Total cakewalk
I went in 1988. December in the great mistakes. I loved boot camp. I needed the structure at 18 years old. We were color company lol..big chicken little chicken and nearly all the flags.
wow. all i can say is wow. so much has changed at RTC great lakes since i went through in 1997 it looks completely different now
Went through boot in Orlando in 1979. That was a beautiful campus. Went to Great Lakes for Electronics Technician "A" school. Great Lakes was REALLY old and frumpy. Building 1 was interesting, but in really bad shape. Only the "400" barracks were modern. I was stuck in the "500" barracks - not horrible, but not great. RTC Great Lakes has clearly gotten a LOT of attention. Inside marching? Inside Blue Jacket? Holy cow, pretty cool. The Navy clearly upped its game since '79.
Ha! That (HMC Maier) was my RDC back in '09. I think it was tough for her to yell at people sometimes without breaking a smile/laughing a little if I remember correctly.
its a lie! the chiefs are not that nice! haha...
Bishop Werstler I agree.
@Scioneer Yeah I agree with you on that. Things have changed so much over the years, they got it made nowadays going to boot camp compared to the way it was back in the day. From one veteran to another, thanks for your service!
Brings back tons of memories. It was tough but wearing that hat at the end
This helped me know what to expect when i go in 6 months. Thank you. I am no longer worried about anything.
No you should still be worried
I think you should join the marines
alright then, shall i tell you of the hell gas chamber will put you through?
Don't forget getting sick because I guy got a cold. One person in the barracks gets sick, everyone in the barracks gets sick. And one person always gets sick.
dont be worried. these guys are just messing with u
Freedom Hall? I remember where we did strength training and exercise when I was there. It was called "Outside"! haha
Training outside is easier. You can't breath in that place. I was happy when I got to Lackland and could PT outside!
Alexis Esguerra We exercised indoors due to the snow and weather.
Alexis Esguerra so you ran outside in minus 25 with snow in the winter?
thank god i plan to go to the navy when im of age and seeing this is a relief to me so i can know what to expect when i go. My main inspiration of going is my family and my uncle served in the us marine corps so that just motivates me and inspires me. my mom is scared but she'll come to terms with it i hope so.
I felt like I was watching an episode of "Cribs" on MTV....
Of course they make boot camp look easy and happy going. It's how they attract recruits. Marines, on the other hand, let you know how bad recruit training is gonna suck from minute one.
She didn't put up the safety bar.
Milo Wing No they do it so you don't break your arms when the hydraulics go out.
Racks up? Sticks up!
Beau Gravitter Hydrate
LOL Ohne, you're right. I just got out of Boot Camp in October and you're straight about that!
Looks like new facilities since I went through basic there in 1965. I remember this very well. I went to Vietnam from there.
Cool! Thanks for the info!
Cool.. Thanks for sharing!
Thay make it look so great
Thank you 4 the video
I love how they make it sound so happy. Whatever you do, don't smile. lol
I was there in 1989 and what a difference 21 years makes! The barracks, galley, and training centers look totally different. Where we did our physical training wasn't even close to 182,000 sq.ft. and it looks like there are machines where you can lift weights and do various other strength training. The government did an awesome job in the major changes to RTC!
My boyfriend left in feburary and graduates in april 27 I cant wait to see him in his unifrom and making me proud :D
I went to BC in 1975. This is like something from an alternate dimension.
Hooya Ship 14 USS Arizona Division 300!
I cant believe they showed the USS Trayer though i didn't see it until i got to battle stations!
Nice Video, good/ bad memories of the first hell night there :D
navy bootcamp.....piece of cake no worries. sure some stressful times, but more humer than anything. will never forget it
I'll be signing my contract for the Navy's Nuclear Program in January of next year, and leaving for boot camp in March~April. I'm pretty damn excited.
Don't nuke it
hooyah! :)
thanks for this vid i am about o join soon and this helps me know what im in for . thanks alot :D
Nice sunny day. Green grass all around. How about some scenes of the recruit center in mid-February? Training looks much improved since I was there 45 years ago. The Navy is what you make of it.
I graduated in 1998. They've changed a lot since I was there. I'd love to go back someday.
I did boot camp in 1960.....you boots b liv'n a whole lot better than we did!
I went to basic down in Orlando Florida back in 1974. My son went through Great Lakes in 2006. Another 17 years and my grandson should be shipping out. LOL
I froze my butt of at Great Lakes in the winter of 1989. Did not have to "double time" everywhere because everything was frozen. As far as anyone who wants to slam my beloved Navy hear this. It was the most exciting 6 years of my life so far. The training I received was the best the military had to offer and when I left the Navy, the job offers came flying in left and right. I now have a great job and earn a great salary thanks to being a Navy Vet. I would do it all over again!
I ship out in roughly 72 hours. Thanks for posting, my mom will love this!
Are you still in the Navy?
@@yequalsemexplusbee4322 yep!
@@USNavyMC what rank are you?
@@duped8273 E-6
@@USNavyMC nice thank you for your service!
Damn, thats a hell of a run!
I didn't go thru great lakes, graduated at Orlando company K109... This brought some great memories... :)
Same here K078
laurie rodgers where were you stationed at Laurie? I got stationed in CHS, before they closed it
I was at Orlando then Great Lakes for A school.
You're right it is. I skipped school and hid for a week just to get my message across that I didn't wanna be there anymore. So they sent me to the fleet and I had the time of my life.
It looks so much nicer in the video then how I remember it while going through training.
Ahhh heading there next week... Aite hahaha LETS DO THIS! hooya navy!
this video makes it seem so easy
Chief!!!! I was stationed at NMCP with her. Pretty sure she was my CPO too, hard charger .
NACCS, especially now, is a piece of cake. A lot of working out and swimming.
i looovveee how chief makes everything seem soo nice...they dont show all the yelling and the IT haha i kinda miss boot though..HOOYAH NAVY!!
Wow, So much change since I was there in '96!
Wow! Those barracks are a lot different then when I was there!
I was on ship 1...the Sullivans (on the grinder) back in 05.
Proud ASMOe
DCs (damage controllmen) are the primary shipboard firefighters and shipboard disaster specialists. FN in Navy lingo means "fireman" which, in the Navy, simply means an E-3 in an engineering specialty rating.
"Red ropes" are RDCs - Recruit Division Commanders (drill instructors). They wear a red "rope" to indicate their position, so recruits can tell which petty officers and chiefs are RDCs.
This is a very cleaned-up, slick look at boot camp that very carefully doesn't show the less fun parts of boot camp. It makes it look a LOT easier than it is.
I'm so glad they are no longer living in the barracks that were old when my husband went through in the early 1980s.
You beat me to it. I was just about to post that. Drop chief!
"No drink'n on the green. No drink'n on the green!" I still remember that line at the chow hall, Great Lakes in 1987
***** The only time I had green eggs is when my ship crossed the equator in the Shell Back initiation in 1991. The cooks used green food coloring in the making scrambled eggs. It was great to see my Division Officer next to me on his hands and knees, just like myself.
When Chief opened that rack all I remembered was "rack up, stick up" because one time my 3rd RDC just threw all of my items for no stick up
Omg omg omg this is great lakes
this looks fun :D
Meal time was the only thing that got me through my time there. Some people didn't like the food but I thought it was great.
Love how P-Days is like a 5 second foot note :P Ahh the memories.
Hopfully i will be going thier after high school since it is my last year in it!
They make this video seem....so friendly...but then they walk you through the marine corp bootcamp point of view and it looks like what they said it is. HELL
I went through RTC San Diego in 1982. Man... the Navy has changed.
lol thank God for that ;)
Amphib, good shit. I'll hopefully be going NMCB on the West Coast :)
I cannot wait to get there. Only 84 more days to go!
WOW!!!! those "ships"/barracks are nice I remember 12 years ago the nasty buildings She said that was small space hell that was alot bigger space than when I was there
this looked cool
I'm going into the Navy as a sonar technician. I leave for great lakes July 11th :)
I'd love to see Lizard King do one of these lmfao
WOW that is so interesting:)
oh god... having flashbacks... especially since i was in the arizona!
That boot camp is FAR more sophisticated than the one I remember. I was there in 1996 DIV - 442
💪💪
@@americasnavy We own the sea - HOO YAH!!
HOOYAH 🌊🌊
Gotta love that brand name shampoo/condition/body wash/face wash Lever 2000!
I never saw my RDC smile unless they were beating you haha
this is just to put moms at ease haha
lol i was there for the Capping Ceremony at the end of this video(not actually in the video though), where the RDC is passing out NAVY ball caps. That was my RDC. Division 152 of 2007 We had already graduated they told us we had to do the capping ceremony again so they could film it for somebody, didn't realize this is what it went to.
@wariyoshidirector it's an adjustment - it's all bout adapting - they play a mind game with u, it's up to u not to let the instructors get in ur head, and it's up to u to follow simple instructions and dont argue with them ever... took me a long time to learn that... ur not gunna win, even if u believe u are right. boot camp is the easy part of the navy, not the most fun - but fairly easy.
joined may 18th 1987 hottest months for GREATMISTAKES LOL as you said JERIC, this was MTV version. lol looks like great lakes got a make over? my company got the HALL OF FAME AWARD best in 18 yrs. still got my company t-shirt. FRAMED
BEST JOB I EVER HAD. now im a NAVY trained A/C guy in florida making $25 bucks an hour. GOD BLESS the NAVY. thoses 6 years went FAST!
WOW !! I haven't been there since 87.. Now it looks like summer camp..
WOW! A lot has changed since '98
USS Carr, Ship 6
Div 290
+HvyMetal4Ever and since 1974
I was in the USS Enterprise for USNSCC boot. Great DoD funded program to familiarize teens with the military. We got the same treatment from RDCs actual recruits down the p-ways were getting. To tell the truth, when I got home I missed being there, until I went to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Field Training a week later ;)
Yes I'm a CS3. i CHOSE Culinary Specialist because i wanted to get in on some of the cool stuff that SOME CS's get to do. i want to be a chef someday so thats why i chose CS. my recruiter wanted me to go Nuke as an MM but i chose CS. now i wish i had chosen FC or GM or even QM
YOOOO 2:27 CHIEF DIDN'T PUT UP THE SAFETY BAR
LOL. 10 counts, begin
I think chief is tired. How about some air chairs lol
hahahah loool!
30 seconds to hydrate
I remember when we got our racks like that installed on my ship, I was in hog heaven with all that space. Before that all I had is one tiny locker for all of my clothes and belongings.
oh memories. kinda miss it
I went to a naval museum and there was a bed that you can lay on and it was soft and cool, I like beds like the "racks" are :D I've always wanted to sleep on a bunk bed
These racks are not soft. If anything they are made from rocks. Not to mention you don't actually sleep in it..you sleep on top.
Caleb Hollars Oh well. Could be worse :) I'm grateful for what I get
Hopefully taking asvab an signing my contract next month nervous but it's a good future ahead
im so glad the uniforms are diffrent now
Chief, gig line! get there.
i love it
Ok so if u don’t know how to swim do they teach u or they just kick u out or something like that pls answer
@indianhead65 Agree. I was there in March of 1976. Living conditions were no where near as good as in that video. Still remember shoveling snow off the grinder in the middle of the night (snow watches).
@victormania2008
I know that your comment is really old, but I wish you luck on becoming a Navy Seal. The training they go through is fucking INSANE. You'd better be freaking ripped when you go into training.
too many memories... US Navy boot camp Company 174 june 1-Aug 1, 1986
