For an animated film from the 80s it still holds up extremely well. I remember when I first got the vhs in the 90s as a teenager and watched it for the first time. Still love this film. And yes, I dated myself.

0:56: The one thing that puts the Streamline version above Pioneer’s (besides the nostalgia of seeing it on SciFi’s Saturday Anime lineup in the 90s) is that half the men in the Pioneer dub are voiced by the dub cast of Digimon…and very obviously, distractingly so, to the point where, half the time I hear Pioneer Tetsuo talk, I expect him to say “go get ‘em Agumon”.😅
Can not frickin wait for this.. when I was young and dumb I watched Akira for the first time and thought it was a really cool Japanese animated cyberpunk movie, but that was it. After not having watched it for more than a decade I decided to revisit it as my memory was quite blurry on it - I could NOT believe how fuckin scary and chaotic this movie is, it was nothing like what I remembered when I was younger, it occurred to me my brain wasn't developed enough at the time to even comprehend it. it's post-apocalyptic-apocalyptic horror movie watching society collapse within itself in real time, set in the not so far future. It's actually quite spiritual all disguised under this amazing futuristic cyberpunk anime. Watching a 2nd time was a cathartic experience. There's really no movie like this one set in this time, people try to copy it though. The film 'The Creator' that came out recently to me was a giant rip-off Akira, took so much inspiration from it but with not as nearly any depth as Akira has. It's a dark movie and am so glad I watched a 2nd time. Wishing you best success with your documentary.
I rewatched Akira a month ago, and the animation blew my mind AGAIN.
I recently finally read the manga and it blasted its way to the top of my favourite manga lists. It’s incredible
How is this 2nd attempt different from the first attempt to get made? There was next to no engagement on the previous Kickstarter campaign and messages went unanswered....

Danika, have you ever gotten into the WH40K lore? Leutin09 has a video on imperial navigators, and there's a musical sequence at 1:14:48 that is astounding. The piece is called Our New World by Bonnie Grace and just fits the scene perfectly.also i think you'd make a wonderful cosplay as a navigator, rogue trader or an Inquisitor or Sisters Seroritas.🎉

Ok, ok you got me loling for five minutes long with that "I'm Mr. Normal but I am a @@@ psycho" and "The nicest persons I have ever met like to hang themselves from the ceiling using some hooks on their chest". Truly the world is 100 % @@@ up. I'm simply writing this to you bc while I was trying to help another youtuber an idea came to my mind that maybe could help you somehow. The idea is getting in contact with someone who likes the dark fantasy fictional world of Vampire The Masquerade. Unless that emo-vampire-middle aged friend of yours is already one of those freaks (I'm using the word freak in a good sense. meaning original not boring) maybe you could befriend some of them to play the board role playing game (I'm only saying this bc not so long ago you joined a group of guys playing a difficult board role playing game about space-ships and galactic stuff) or to just invite them to your birthday without having to buy them so much food. Vampires don't eat after all. But please don't let them convince you to drink blood. Not even for the sake of experiencing things you always against the grain Aquarian. You might get a disease or something. If you must just put some artificial colouring on the water ok? Oh well you will do what you want anyways but if you get sick while losing your priceless freedom don't say I didn't warn you. Anyways, maybe you like some of this related songs "Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Full Soundtrack (High Quality with Tracklist)" from a chanel callled "Games Soundtracks OST". Or "VtM Bloodlines OST" from a chanel called "MadamMinty"
Akira is amazing, and the 1989 English dub is THE dub, period! The 2001 dub is about as annoying as the Dune remake. Har-Conan vs. Har-Kin-On. Like Kah-Nay-Dah vs. Canada!
Speaking of fantastic, clever and unique Japanese cinema, I really hope you give One Cut of the Dead a try for your Mystery Theater. It really is something special, just don't spoil it by viewing any trailers, reading any synopsis, etc. It's so easily spoiled, The Sixth Sense level of spoilers. Going in completely cold is best. Also, the English dub is pretty bad, original Japanese dialogue FTW!
