    I made one out of sashay metallic, one out of Shashay Sparkle and gave them away for gifts in 2015. I am glad this video is still available. It is 2020 and I want to make one for myself out of Shashay. Good for my summer looks. Love how you demonstrate this, I followed alongside your video and now I have my own sashay shawl. Thank you so much for sharing your talents.

    I tried reading multiple "patterns" for things like this but they were so hard to understand! This video explains it very well and I love the paper graphs! I write patterns myself and I know how hard it can be to communicate these things, especially with unique yarns and stitches. This made it very clear and now I can use these techniques for other designs, too. Thank you!

I don't know how long it will take me to learn how to make this shawl, but now that I have seen it I have to make one!

    Red heart does not carry yarn anymore for this pattern. Every where else is real expensive so I am going to make this yarn myself with crochet that will come out like it then make the shawl. The bottom I can use trim then crochet the other rows.

    Someone please explain this pattern to me! I don't understand how it goes from being very ruffly to flat. It looks like he is working from the bottom up. Is that right? What he shows looks like a lot of ruffle. I don't see how he gets the flat panels on top.

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  8 лет назад

      Sashay is naturally flat. It's only when you crochet or knit it that makes it ruffle up. So it's like a flat fishnet until you crochet or knit it. The way I demonstrate in this tutorial, it keeps the mesh flat.

    • @veolasutherland413
      @veolasutherland413 8 лет назад +1

      All I saw in this tutorial was how to make the ruffle. Is there a complete tutorial that I missed on how to make the entire shawl?

    • @BwooHuraca
      @BwooHuraca 7 лет назад +2

      He was working from the top down. When you crochet the thin mesh portion to the thick edge and keep going that will weight it down, causing it to eventually spread out and appear more flat. The reason it looks ruffled in the video is because he only worked two rows and he has to work it in kind of a spiral. The thick edges will still appear a little bit ruffled, but once you get to row 8 the weight and length of the bottom portion will flatten out the top portion. If you look up 'Kelp Forest Tutorial' it's almost the same thing, but she shows you a larger sample.

      You would have to overlay the mesh within 3 loops if you need to do that.

    oh my GOD, this makes no sense to me. why are you not going back on the next two like you would with normal yarn. why are you going down to the bottom of the work to start the next row?. I am lost lost lost. I am trying to make a ruffle bandanna for my head, not a shawl, but it's the same concept, only smaller. A shawl for the head. I just want to make a triangle out of the yarn. If I were to do this with normal yarn, I would just turn to work to make the next row. this is confusing. rarrghghgh!

    • @BwooHuraca
      @BwooHuraca 7 лет назад

      It's just because of the way the sashay is compared to usual yarn. Since it's built like a mesh, in order to get it into a half-circle shape you have to work it into a spiral form, but you have to keep the mesh opened to get it to spread and ruffle which is why he's attaching the thin top edge to the thicker bottom edge. You could also keep it flat and bunched together and work it like you would regular yarn, but it won't ruffle.

      When I first watched this video I thought there was no way I could do this, it was just way too confusing. Watch it a few times then work as he is working and you will totally understand it, I did and am now working on one.
