Quickjack wheel mod install

  • No quickjacks were harmed in the making of this video.
    This modification has got to be the best thing you can do to your Quickjack. It doesn't make sense to be dragging painted surfaces on cement, wheels were invented for uses such as this. I think the Quickjack was well designed but they just forgot to add wheels.
    Thanks to Tony for showing me his quickjack mod, thanks to Frank for the prefab supplies.
    With the prefabricated L-angles with casters, it took less than 10 minutes to upgrade my Quickjack with wheels. Makes moving and adjusting the Quickjack location a breeze.
    Parts needed:
    4 - threaded rods, 1/2" x 12"
    8 - Nuts, 1/2" x 13 threads/inch
    8 - 1/2" washers
    8 - L-angles
    8 - casters
    I opted for all stainless steel hardware.
    I'll be upgrading the nuts to stop nuts, I'll be using the ones below.
    Stainless Steel Thin Jam Nylon Insert Lock Nuts 1/2-13 (pack of 10) Marine Bolt Supply
    www.amazon.com...
    Like I said, trying to drill half inch holes through thick sheet metal without a drill press or step reamers won't be easy, you're better off just getting the prefab, the ones I got were well made with all the holes located at the correct locations, everything deburred, made out of .120 high grade stainless steel, it got rid of the planning and guess work.
    His price is reasonable considering the higher quality materials used and the amount of time and effort it would take to make 8 of them.
    Prefabricated L-angles with casters for the quickjack:

    This is brilliant and Frank...I just sent you a mail to your gmail account to buy a set of these brackets and casters. The rest I have here in my shop. I'm an older guy now and the only problem that I had with these quickjacks was rolling them and lifting them around my shop. This is THE solution. Thanks again.

    Am I the only one that dislikes the bracket setup on a single pivot point off-center? Very untechnical to fixate the bracket by pure force on the nut. Bends all brackets when you load the jacks by accident or otherwise.

  • @Airpaycheck
    @Airpaycheck 3 года назад +2

    Is there anything that keeps the wheel brackets in place if the nuts loosen up over time?

    • @fdeguilla
      @fdeguilla  3 года назад +2

      Only the torque of the nuts, which is why I opted for the elastic stop nuts or locknuts, you can also use loctite thread lock. I don't think it'll be a problem unless you'll be rolling it around all day using it professionally.

    • @Airpaycheck
      @Airpaycheck 3 года назад +2

      @@fdeguilla Got everything installed. Works great. One thing I learned is to keep the wheel shafts as vertical as possible. I see one customer had you ad a tab to the brackets to keep them from rotating. Good idea. Thanks Frank!

    The ground clearance defined by the QuickJack alone is 3". What is the clearance increase when these casters are added? This is important for low cars.

    • @fdeguilla
      @fdeguilla  2 года назад

      I just measured it from the floor to the top of the quickjack, no rubber blocks, it's approximately 5".

    • @sportscarnut
      @sportscarnut 2 года назад

      @@fdeguilla That is way too much. I would accept an extra 0.5" but not a full 2" increase in height.

    • @fdeguilla
      @fdeguilla  2 года назад +2

      Forgot to mention that I have the “quickjack frame extension” on top of my quickjack, this adds to the height another 1 9/16”. I did measure it again using a 6” scale, the wheel mod currently installed on my quickjack is not the same as in the video (I have the the updated version of it, which has slightly bigger wheels and the anti-rotation tabs) the clearance that the wheel mod added was approximately 7/16”, plus or minus 1/32” (.4375) my total height without the frame extension came to approximately 3 1/4” (3.25”). I took the measurement at about the center point of my quickjack, the floor is fairly level, I have the Quickjack BL-5000SLX.
