About:
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s first tour in 10 years ended with an emotional series of 10 concerts at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden. Live In New York City, featuring performances from the last two nights of that tour (chronicled partially in an Emmy Award-winning HBO special), captures “the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, house-rocking, earth-quaking, booty-shaking, love-making, legendary E Street Band” as Bruce and his blood brothers embarked on an exciting new musical chapter together. Now, for the first time, this magical program comes to RUclips in its entirety for fans new and old to experience.

This was one of my wife's favorite songs. She passed away today. Rest in peace, my love.
Sorry brother I’m praying for you genuinely ❤
Thank you, I appreciate it sincerely
Good lord I can't imagine the pain. Peace be with you and your departed wife.
❤
so very sorry for your loss
“But i got debts no honest man could pay” is my favorite line. Love Bruce’s lyrics
You prolly right
So I brought us two tickets 🎟 on that coast city bus 🚌 😊
Yes and going to where they’re turning sand to gold. I remember when they were shutting down the concessions on the boardwalk and putting up casinos.
'Now our luck may have died and our love may be cold, but with you, forever I'll stay' - gives me shivers
" I've got debts that no honest man can pay" ...... still sign of the times

Bruce is such an amazing lyricist.
Holding on to every scrap. Tomorrow it might be better.

Nothing is more amazing than the cheers of the crowd when they realise what song is being reimagined. What a phenomenal song - and what a version. Breathtaking.
You do realize bruce wrote this song and originally performed it right? I mean yes the tune is a bit diff from the original....i wouldnt say its "reimagined". Just played w a full band
@@onewiththeragingwind6730 it is reimagined. Thats why he said reimagined, because hes added parts and a full band to a solo song.
I agree with "re-imagined"; it started as a Bruce-and-guitar folk song. In the subsequent 15 (?) years, and the iconic Madison Square Garden shows, he transformed it to up-tempo, full-band, full-vocals. The results are a revelation, a transcendence, an elevation; honoring, but not overshadowing, the origins of the song.
@@natmilcur The song came out in 1982 and on the following Born in the USA tour it was already performed this way. So I guess you can see it how you like. For me, this is the original live version (i.e. the way I'd expect to hear it on a concert), for others it's a reimagination of the original studio version. I guess most fans will have recognized the song from the start.

@@captmcneil The Studio version of the song is a solo, so technically any version like this is a reimaginin
The power of Max Weinberg on drums cannot be overstated. Especially that intro and the buildup towards the end.
Max is all kit
Gotta love a buildup that goes on just too long enough. The anticipation and anticipation and anticipation and delivery.
agreed
Mighty Max had some good drumming I agree with you on that comment
MIGHTY MAX! all respect!
Bruce screaming “YES MAX” at 2:38 will never EVER fail to warm my heart.
I feel the same way. It's comforting and gratifying to see Bruce openly acknowledge Max's excellence.
I never noticed that's what he was saying! But yeah, it is great to see the Boss call out the greatness of Mighty Max!
That’s awesome. I wish the mics picked it up.
People just don't get it until they see this guy live
I totally agree. I saw him in 2002 in Phoenix. It was the Rising tour. It was my first time to see the band. They were on fire. played for 2:45 minutes. Totally awesome. I was blown away!!
Saw him in the old Boston Garden, twice! Always will remember "Trapped" lights got all turned on at once with each shout of the word. All I could do was stare and smile.
One of the greatest live performers without a doubt. The Smiths live are the only other band I can think of that sound better live than the studio album
@@hwanjung8230 Prince was on a different level live also. Saw him in the 90s.
@@jeffboy13 prince was soo good soo talented
This is music!!!!!.... The lyrics, attitude ... That bass line and the drums!!!! My gosh ... Even in 2024
The E Street Band. They can't be touched.
I was born and raised in Texas, on the cowboy myths and western songs and stories. I loved every minute of it, because it was a great part of American culture.
This song is an Eastern. And it's just as good as any western.
Probably my favorite comment on RUclips.
Yeah that's a cool comment
Any reference or any good books/albums you can suggest that has stayed with you? Thank you
See, You're on it.
as always, the Boss delivers excelent performance..
he is gorgeous, as is guitar...
and mighty max, i think he's mad
meet me tonight!!! where? AC
Everything dies baby thats a fact. But maybe everything that dies someday comes back. ❤
I came by this masterpiece this week and I just started to cry, it just hits you in places you didn't even think of
Thank God for Bruce Springsteen
Somehow, this song sung THIS way is nothing short of profound. Amazing.
Imagine only having heard the Nebraska version, then going to a show and having this one hit you in the face. Must be unreal to experience.
I can't listen to the Nebraska version anymore
This version is transcendent, and overshadows the original, Nebraska, Bruce-and-acoustic-guitar, version. But that is as it should be. Same with Springsteen's concert versions of "Youngstown" and "Ghost of Tom Joad", surpassing the original album cuts. He had years to let the songs "mature",. and brought them back out as the full, magnificent, symphony-like masterpieces that they could have been, and really, always were.
Heavily influenced by the Band/Levon Helm version, I think.
Where would Bruce be without the ESB when he goes on the road? They are all excellent musicians in their own right. But where would they be without the Boss? He is their wonderful songwriter and frontman, born to it. Together they cannot be beaten They are unique.❤❤❤❤❤
44 years old .....and I listen like THE BOSS since I was 12 ....with the same emotion ! ... THE BOSS IS ......THE BOSS !
I'm 56. Been listed since '75 when I was 8. Saw him live my first time in 1980 on Halloween night at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. My big brother who was 18 took me. I was 13. Changed my life.
I have seen him 20 times now. I had tickets to see him last year in Portland, Or. I got a little wasted and missed my flight. Swallowed around $5,000 tickets, hotel, flight. Ouch.
Was supposed to see him L.A. and through a huge mix-up missed both shows.
Making up my mind where to catch him on one of the remaining dates. Whether in the states or Europe?
I'm not fucking it up again this time.
I'll be on that hill cause I can't stop
Be on that hill with everything I got
Where lives on the line
Dreams are found and lost
I'll be there on time and I'll pay the cost for wanting things that can only be found in the darkness on the edge of town
Amen.
the only kid in town who can synthesise rock, gospel and folk into greatness
Simply the best. The best song out of Nebraska and the entire version holds the audience breathless. Stunning, spectacular, etc etc etc
The Band is better
@@autonomousindividual7780 i agree
Nope
Imagine covering your own song with the best band in the world featuring your wife? Goals.
Saw him in Sunderland was best gig I've ever been to , was relentless.for his age he didn't stop for a break just powered through 30 songs.
Sounding and looking good for a nearly 70 year old. respect.
I was at this concert! Probably best Atlantic City he ever played live.
Top 5 Bruce....Atlantic City, don't know where but definitely top 5.
This was the first song my favorite local band played for me and my boyfriend and the live version is the best warms my heart
What a treasure. The world is a better place thanks to the Boss.
Thank you Bruce very much. This ran through my mind when I was homeless in AC.
Now that’s how you do it!
What a fuckin’ band.
Only man who can get away with writing about a mob hit without backlash ♥️😎
Everyone in Philly knows the killer haha. They all eliminated each other. 😂
He got away with it, because he didn't mention the chicken man's real name.
The Church of Springsteen.
I always resonated to this song, but this version elevated it to an other level...
It is actually his song The Band covered it.
There is just something so genuine and passionate about this performance. It's a song they've performed God, how many times do you think? Hundreds? Thousands? But for whatever reason, this time, something moved it to that elevated version you mentioned...
@@leestaniszewski7236 not what he meant chief...
Damn. What a song this is. A real piece of art. And a hauntingly good version too.
With Bruce, he's a millionnaire many times over, but he has never ever sung his songs like a rich man.
Greatest artist ever.!
The boss will make you understand the story regardless off what you want
They dynamics the band plays with in this song is incredible.
Imagine having your smoke-show wife play guitar in your awesome band. That's happiness.
the bond he is in good company, best perk, lol , we hope when it dies it will come back one day,
Bruce Springsteen & the E street band...❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
You don't find out the dirt he's about to do until the penultimate line... brilliant.
The greatest of all Bruce's songs.
Oooooh....l'm feeling it's time for the "Boss" to return to the airway's again!!!
The band at their finest. They work seamlessly together.
Greatest song of all time
I've got a ticket to see the Boss and his band in Edmonton on November 19th. Man, I hope they open with this.
He was amazing in Montréal yesterday ! Enjoy
July 1,2000. The last show of the reunion tour. 3 1/2 hours and 28 songs. One of my most memorable i was there shows.
What a chance you had. In 2009, in France in Carhaix, I saw the Boss in real. A great concert... In summer 2010, I was in NYC and I took the train in Hoboken (NJ transit) and during the trip, I listened "the River" with my iPod, awesome.
Never heard a bad version or cover of this one.....says here it's just a great song!
You're right. No other Springsteen song has so many great covers. Here are 7 brilliant versions to start with: The Reivers, The Band, Kurt Neumann, Ed Harcourt, The Hold Steady, Automatic 7 and John Anderson.
This song is really touching
WHAT A BAND they best of they best OVER 50 YEARS at they top , , NOT MANY OUT THERE LIKE OUR BRUCE AND E-STREET BAND , LONG MAY THEY HAVE HEALTH TO CARRY ON WITH THERE POWERFUL SONGS AND POWERFUL MUSIC
Music in perfection. This Boss is amazing.
THE BOSS! VU ET ENTENDU À BERCY! AMBIANCE INCROYABLE DANS LA SALLE!❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
This is the best version of this song, love Max Winebergs drums in the beginning...
yes max !!!
I love this song so much. It's so cool to see "Silvio" playing this amazing rendition.
Who are these 20 d bags who gave this killer version a thumbs down?
People that don't understand there's a world outside of Texarkana, Lisa Mcintosh.
Lol 27 now
Never mind... They wouldnt recognize god if he appears someday
No soul, no taste losers that's who😉
Poppers and Reggaeton-fools with lack of ears for real good music
Me: “what do you kids want to watch tonight?”
Kids: “we wanna watch Bruce live in NYC…”
I call that good parenting!!
When I was 12 I realized this was my favorite Bruce song by listening to my dad's Best of Bruce Springsteen over and over and over again. When I was 30, I realized this was my favorite song, period
Iam Irish but I can honestly say that America produced the best musicians this song is proof of it Go On the Boss
I'm British ,
and agree.
Insane version. Lifts an already great song to the stratosphere.
I was going to his shows during this time. It was so stunning to see Nebraska played with the full band and many of the songs from born in the USA performed acoustically and really spare. The opposite of how they were recorded. Seen him maybe 18 times? Every single time was pure joy
I love playing along with this and it sure is weird jamming with the dude from the Sopranos.
Man o man just when I think well the dead or the band or Dylan or James Taylor or van Morrison or Joni etc I hear Bruce and truth is he’s at the very top of ANY LIST IN EVERY WAY LYRICS VOCALS AUTHENTICITY ALL OF IT!!!! Unreal amazing makes a grown man cry....
Best version live 🤟🤟
God I hope he's coming to Wisconsin on tour I have loved him since he started ...What a beautiful man 💞🎶
Was priveleged to see this wonder before any one knew...Free concerts on the quad at Fairleigh Dickenson University, Teaneck, NJ. Glory Days
I love the way Bruce puts max and his drum kit on a high rise platform, he is a phenomenal drummer and the beat that keeps the heart going.
Simply, the Boss rules and so does his band.
The best of all time, a talent like no other is Bruce
Came across this song while looking up Phila Mob material. I can't get enough of this song.
The live version of this song is incredible, and frankly better than the original track. Saw it for the first time Live in Montreal last night and it was magical.
I had the privelege and honor of seeing this American gem in the mid 70's at a free concert on the campus of Fairleigh Dickenson University and then at Max's Kansas City in NYC mid 1970's.
I have loved this song since I first heard it on the radio and then bought the LP "Nebraska". For some reason this song apart from the great tunes and lyrics makes me feel involved.. I live and love the trip and their hardship and I also want to see the light and a better life and future.
The greatest performance of one of his greatest songs. Listen to the roar!!!
Ich will dahin.mit der E-street Band.❤
This song is a heartbreaker.
I hope that Springsteen decides to release the E Street Band recordings of the Nebraska tracks from 1982.If this is representative of how the rest turned out I would love to hear the full album .
Far and away my favorite live album. Legit never gets old. Bruce, E street, and the peak of pre 9/11 innocence of America. Truly a moment in time I wish I could always go back to!!
What a beautiful duet. What a beautiful woman. What a lucky guy!
I love the stripped down original so I wouldn't thing a blown out version of this song would be great, but it is. All hail, The Boss.
True you HAVE to do live!!! New World outdoor concert Chicago lose your mind. All the energy you could ever imagine....
Love, love love this song. Love it when the band is in full cry, everything turned up and rocking!
Any time I hear Bruce a sort of
religious function starts.
yeah man
Amen 🙏
This blew me away. Always knew of the boss-the hits. But this live show holy shit. The band is incredible and his control of the crowd if amazing. Gotta be one of the best versions of this song
Incredible song, great version
I love that every time I hear this song, it's like the first time I've heard it every time.
Ne mogu da verujem da me samo tvoj glas usrećuje.
My favourite version of Atlantic City ! Just brilliant !👍
As usual, unsurpassed!👏👏👏👍 I love Bruce’s troubadour style, accurately reporting history - like he did in “Nebraska”- an accurate portrayal of historical facts- in a way one cannot forget!
Best thing Jersey ever produced!
Grazie Bruce Springsteen mi fai sentire vivo io cerco sempre di continuare questa magnifica vita
Continuously...te best, never disappoints...many concerts attended in my life...lucky me!!@@
As I wrote before, this man hits or shoots through my heart. This man makes me fly and all I can say is : Thank You !
what a fucking tune
Come fanno a far rinascere questi brani ogni volta. Ogni singola esecuzione un frammento diverso che brilla. Grandiosi
You just have to appreciate this man... every song on stage is so different and good..
This version is Great, balanced on the bass of Mr. Gary W. Tallent and Mighty Max's always beefy drums. Loved it.
The bass line is brilliant. The drums, yes.
Le puissant max à la batterie est une pure merveille
Absolutely master piece. Amazing performance. So emotional... so pure! Fuck yes! Bruce and the E street are different againt everything with all respects for all the music legends in highest top of him. Long life to the BOSS. My hero. Cheers from Barcelona!
Animeeeeel ets un hooligan pero ets el millor de tots testimoooo cabron
Love this version so much. I heard it live in London. Love you Bruce!! X
As with so many songs on the reunion tour, the best version ever.
Best version of this song - so powerful
I think people get it he’s one of the best selling artists of all time
The boss is magic...
Yesterday today and more tomorrow. .
The Boss and the E Street Band been fortunate to see twice at Wembley. Greatest live performers. In a league of their own. As someone already said … you won’t know what you’re missing till you’ve been to a live show.
In general I can take or leave Bruce, but this song brings me to tears. I dunno what’s going on but… there’s something.
I give my philosophy professor in College, my first semester credit for nuturing my appreciation of Springsteen.
He showed me this song in the wake of Hurricane sandy, and it resonated with me
