Just a stray recent comment rolling through. I've bought the 60 set on Amazon for 13.33$ + shipping (they are coming from the UK so I haven't received them yet) and personally after some research I decided these where the best complements for my prismas. Here are some reasons to buy them: 1. I'm not 100% sure, but looking at their performance and pictures drawn with them I conclude these are oil based. 2. They behave similarly like polychromos (which I myself have) except are harder leads. I honestly sometimes can't tell the difference. That's pretty good considering the price difference! 3. Great color selection. You can pretty much mix any colors with enough skill. Plenty of natural colors for various skin tones or nature scenes. 4. Sharpen well and hold a point without crumbling a lot like prismacolors. 5. Hexagonal shape which will roll slower than round barrels. 6. Ability to layer is excellent. Just look up 'faber castell classic drawings': see how many realistic portraits people have done! They're amazing because they can create smooth gradients and layer many colors without them looking unnaturally intense- or leaving dreadful white spots of the paper showing through. Compare them to what people have done with Marco renoirs or koh I noor polycolors- sometimes they look blotchy in certain areas because the colors used were too vibrant and thus many try to use the white or a blend pencil to lighten the color- but they are only pushing the pigment into the wells which gives an uneven appearance. I mean the results are still really good, but you lose a lot of detail and subtlety this way. Most wax pencils do this because they were created to be used with hard pressure and the warmed wax blends into the paper and into the other colors much faster than oils. The Classics are designed like an oil pencil so that you can layer them to achieve different hues with the same pencil and layering does not fill up the tooth of the paper too quickly. 7. They're cheap. It's better to use cheap supplies sometimes because you don't have to worry about 'wasting' high quality, nice art supplies on every piece you make. I haven't even practiced as much with just my prismas than with my Crayola's because the latter is cheaper and so I'm not afraid of anything I make not being good enough. The Classics are better than Crayola's though in some areas, especially pigmentation.
I am actually sad that the other flesh color " #332 Dark Flesh " is not in the Faber Castell 48 Classic Color Pencil Set. I'm wanna know if they at least have " #332 Dark Flesh " in the FBClassic 24 pack since I was saving up money for getting them since I have love the 24 Faber Castell Water Color Pencil set
I have just bought the 60 pack but there are no colour names on it anywhere, just numbers on the pencils. Your useful colour chart will at least help me identify 48 of them! All I have to do now is figure out the other 12... lol
did you have to press hard to make the colors vibrant on paper or was that just a light application? I'd appreciate an answer as I'm planning to buy these soon. thank you!
I am so mad that the 60 'Special Edition Pack' on Amazon doesn't come with a sharpener or a color chart. None of the pencils are labeled. Ugh. But this is a good start at least to figuring out the chart.
Hello friends, I'm the same person who wrote this comment 6 years ago 😊 It's so surreal and nostalgic that in the past I was only able to afford these types of art supplies. At the time i used to ask my parents to buy me these things but I was too embarrassed to ask them for it because it was expensive where I'm from. Eventually I bought it with my own money, excited with the new colors I'd be able to use on my artwork. 6 years later, I now work on realistic acrylic portraits on canvas. I've worked with acrylics, watercolors, oil pastels, charcoal, you name it. It's been a long journey and I kind of missed the humble beginnings :') so don't give up hope! Hope strive when dreams don't 🙏🤗
Hi Jennifer! Thanks so much for the colour demo. I am thinking about buying these. How is the hardness? Are they wax or oil based or something else? Do they blend well? I am a complete beginner and will use them to learn as they are cheap and easily available. Please help.
where did you get the color names and numbers of the prismacolor classic pencils? I want to chart mine but don't have either of them. thanks for the lesson.
where did you get the names of the pencil colors, I bought a package and the names are not on or in it.can you email me the swatch picture with names please?
FatalConclusion I bought these at my local target shop.. depends where you live but you can get them pretty much anywhere. haha but here's a link mydesk.officemax.com.au/faber-castell-classic-colour-pencils-48-pack.html :)

Mrs. Han I don’t think she pressed hard but I do think she applied multiple layers for even coverage if that makes sense.

It depends on how you'll use it. The watercolor ones are for pastel-like coloring.
Is it just the same when i color it? Is the only difference between them are the watercolor can be blend using water?
