  • Build up the city, choose the right lots and right type of building to attract tenants and collect rent from them. When the time is right, sell of the building to make even more money than rent would provide for you, but hurry as the market crash will come suddenly, so you better time it nicely when to sell your buildings or you will lose big in Magnate: The First City by Naylor Games

This game rocks but i feel like it’s taking about 4-5 plays to really remember all the rules and intricacies to make it flow easy. The process of playing with people who are depending on the same tenants as you to come out can cause some anger if having to outbid someone because only one tenant of that type came out that round and the bigger buildings hold many. Man so cutthroat the game can also feel a bit dry as all you are doing is buying and selling every round then hoping the right tenants come out. As soon as you sell more than one or two things the wolves sell all third stuff at double. Great game good review. Glad I picked it up 👍

hey, yeah I can see what you mentioned happening, and yes it can get cutthroat but it only tends to be in certain circumstances, and sometimes that never happens in a game, but when it does, it can rub that other player the wrong way. Thanks for your comments.

Great review! Would you say you’re still as positive about the game a few months later? And have you by chance tried the solo mode?

I am not a solo gamer, so I haven't tried the solo mode. I still think the game has something, but I DID play power grid again the other week and I have to say that I enjoyed power grid more. So I think the game holds good things, but for me it has sunk down some.
