How To Install and Adjust an EAZ-LIFT Load Distribution and Sway Control. Assembling 800 lb Kit

  • My last trailer did not require a load leveling or sway control hitch. It's a must for my new trailer. The weight distribution will lift the saggy rear end of my truck and raise the nose on the trailer. This will keep both the truck and the trailer level. The sway control will help keep both going down the road straight through the wind.
    Proper loading of the truck and trailer is also very important. I will go over the truck specifications and ratings of pay load, tung load and pulling wight limits. You need to know what to look for and not overload your truck.
    Be safe.

    I love this guys honesty. He explained what almost every truck owner believes, then finds out. The belief your truck can haul unlimited weight, only to find out its capabilities are significantly less. 2000lb tongue weight on a 1500? Bruh. People also don’t realize their payload needs to be subtracted from max tow weight. If you have a full family and gear you can easily take 1500lbs off you “max” of 10k. Then you realize you really shouldn’t be towing at the max weight for any significant time. Probably 80% of max tow weight. So a 10k max, subtract 1500 for payload is down to 8500, then 80% of 8500 is 6800lbs of a realistic tow weight.

    The drill bit they recommend 11/32 notice he went down one? It can't hurt to start with a smaller one and if the hole is too small you can always use the recommended size. Can't go backward though hehe so if you want to do like he did and start with a 32nd smaller well if it's too small just go up one and make the hole larger :D

  • @jiminhayward
    @jiminhayward 2 года назад +2

    Great video! I have just ordered the sway control to add to my EAZLift hitch (did not have sway originally). I noticed the instructions mention ARC welding. Is this not needed when using the hitch that includes the holes for the sway balls? I don't have or want to arc weld. Thanx!

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  2 года назад

      If your receiver hitch has the small ball on it then you should not need to weld anything. Mount the plate with the other small ball to the side of your trailer tong and you're ready to adjust and go. Be careful what size drill bit you use for the self tapping bolts. I used the size in the instructions and the first bolt I put in stripped out. Test the drill bit size on something first if you can or just drill smaller first and step up till you can thread in the bolts.

    • @jiminhayward
      @jiminhayward 2 года назад

      @@riderescue Thanks for the reply. I will not have to weld and that's great! One last question, if you don't mind. There is a left and right hand version of this product. Do I install both or just one? I noticed you installed only the right hand (passenger) side. Any problems or advantages to installing the other side or both? Thanx again!

    Thanks for making this video. I bought the same EAZ lift for my F150 and should be installing it shortly. I have a question about the sway controller though. Do I connect the sway controller for all driving? It looks like if it was connected and you turned too far either way it would get in the way.

      I wondered about the clearance of the sway control myself. I have a back up camera that I can leave on and watch the sway control at every turn. Mine never came close to binding up. I did tighten it down too tight and I damaged the ball mount on the side of the trailer tong. I am making a new video now to show that damage and I will talk about how to adjust it and use it so that my viewers can avoid my failure.

    Hey, I have the same hitch. From what I have seen, there wasn’t any mention of leveling the trailer to the ground. Is that because you are on a slope? And if yes how did you figure out level with the front and rear measurements? Second question, did you just tighten the other bolt on the bottom on the hitch assembly to snug up agains the the hitch extension?

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  3 года назад

      The driveway that my trailer is parked on has a gradual slope so I made the trailer frame the same measurement from the ground equal at the front and back to make the trailer parallel to the ground slope. I measured at the frame rales under the trailer. If you are working on level ground you can level everything up much easier. The bolts on the chain brackets are just tightened down snug to the tong of the trailer.

    One question, what determines the angle of the ball assembly? Otherwise, very informative and answers a load of questions. Thanks for the video.

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  2 года назад

      Good question! From what I have been able to figure out, once the truck and trailer are level, if the spring bars are level everything is good. If the bars are pulled too high or hang down from being level to the ground then the ball bracket needs to be adjusted to make the bars level.

    What size drill bit would be the correct size to use for the sway bar install?

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  3 года назад

      I dropped back one drill bit size. Sorry I do't have the size from the instructions recommendation with me right now but drop that size by 1/16" and try inserting the self taping bolt. If that is too tight then go up the next 1/32" in size. Example, if it says 7/16" is recommended drop back to 3/8". If that is too small go up to 13/32"

    Thx for clarifying the weight distribution was a little confusing on their video. You and another guy really cleared it up by explaining that you need to lift your truck up PAST horizontal put the chains on then lower it down to even. Think I know the answer but does the sway control bar interfere with your ability to turn sharply in any way?

    • @raptorsan85
      @raptorsan85 Год назад

      also to people that were a bit frustrated and overhwelmed setting this up...once it's adjusted loading and dropping your trailer literally take 5 min...I timed it in Bridgeport and I hand crank mine...it's that quick.

      @riderescue yeah wasn't sure if it'd restrict or limit the angle. I've been using mine with just tye we8ght distribution prib gonna put the bar on tomorrow. Also not sure if it was this video but oiling the bars is a good idea mine squeal a lot.

    How did your RV behave when towing before you added the bars and did you have sway in the rv before you added the sway bar

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  2 месяца назад

      I have used this EAZ-LIFT with two trailers. One, about 22 feet and 5000 pounds, and one about 29 feet and 8000 pounds. The EAZ-LIFT control was very good and level with the small trailer. It did follow much better with sway control. The big trailer was scary behind my half ton without the EAZ-LIFT but it made a huge improvement with sway control and leveling. But my half ton springs had a hard time keeping it all from bobbing up and down on bumpy roads. The big trailer was just over 800 pounds on the hitch and I felt like that was too much for my RAM 1500. The adjustable sway bar is fantastic to be able to adjust the sway pressure. After driving a few trips you can feel it when it is too tight or tool loose.

  • @4truth69
    @4truth69 3 года назад

    Do I need this hitch on. Ram 2500 with factory auto level airbags ? Did the hitch come with the receiver 6 hole drop adjuster or should I but one?

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  3 года назад

      I would try out the stock airbags before I purchased a load leveling hitch, but it may still make sense to have one with the sway control depending on your trailer weight and size.

      Yep, and my Ram truck was not easy to find the exact towing specs either. There are so many variables with engine, trans, rear axle and tires. I found out that my truck had a lower tow rating because of the huge 22" sport wheels. I changed to the 18" factory wheels for safer towing.
