- A weight distribution system will help you to reduce the amount of squat on your tow vehicle, transfer tongue weight back to the trailer axles and provide for a safer and more enjoyable towing experience with your RV. In this video, I will demonstrate how I install our EAZ-Lift Recurve R3 weight distribution system with built in sway control. We use this to tow our 2020 Lance 1985 travel trailer with our 2017 Toyota Tundra. We purchased our weight distribution system at Princess Craft RV in Round Rock, Texas back in June when we picked up our new travel trailer.

A weight distributing hitch does shift some weight to the trailer axles but the main function is to restore weight to the front steering axle/s. The idea is to get the front of the tow vehicle back to being as close to its original position as possible for safe steering and braking. As result of the weight shift the rear end will recover some of its unloaded height but is not mandatory for a safe hitch setup.
Liked the video. The main reason for a weight distribution hitch is to shift some of the weight off the rear axle and onto the front axle of the tow vehicle. This gives you back your steering control. Every time I have set one up it was important to measure the front fender to ground and return it to within less than 1" of the unloaded measurement. Nothing more scary than seeing travel trailers going down the road nose down and the tow vehicle's nose up.
Exactly right Ray. To see the difference the WD system is making requires measuring the front fender well height or by weighing the front axle. That's the goal, to nearly restore the front axle to stock height / weight. The amount of squat in the rear of the tow vehicle isn't where the focus should be.
Happy 4th. Just purchased a recurve 3. Thank you for showing its use. Learning more all the time. We are very new to RVing so we have a long way to go. Thank you .
R3 Recurve works like a charm for us. A world of difference compared to our old chain system we had before
We use to have the chains as well and this one is so much better for us too!
I have the same setup on my TV and works great, quick and easy to install. Great video
Thank you so much for the information. I just got this system for my tundra
I absolutely love my Reese Steady Flex WD and sway control Hitch. It is built like a beast and uses brake pad type friction pads for sway control. I towed my TT 8000km to AZ and back and it was totally awesome in all regards even during some unexpected wicked side winds out of nowhere in Texas!!
We have the Husky CenterLine TS. It works as it should in terms of towing stability but it can be difficult to hitch up, especially at campsites. We now take them off as soon as we get to the park. Makes it much easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces and to hitch or unhitch when we can’t get our tow vehicle perfectly straight in line with our tt.
Delaney, I have the same hitch system - brand new - and as a matter of fact, after unhitching yesterday, I was awake much of the night wishing I had taken a picture of the hitch and the process. So, along comes Delaney to make it look easy. Oh, and 29 miles of interstate towing and the whole thing was smooth. Thank you and I'll sleep better tonight.
Your videos are just so professional! Really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot - thanks!
I appreciate that! Thank you so much!
I got my E-Lift ReCurcver R3 in 2018 and have been very happy with it. I had it originally on a 2014 F150 1/2 ton truck and then I decided to upgrade my truck to a 2018 RAM 2500 with 6.4 HEMI with an 8-foot bed. What a difference. My setup is the trailer weight on the axles is 6500 LBS same as the dry weight of the trailer, which is impressive in itself. Verified on CAT scale. Love this hitch system.
Thank you for this video. I purchased my 2020 travel trailer (Micro Minnie Winnebago 2106DS) from the original owner the end of last year and it came with this EAZ-Lift R3 ReCurve hitch. I pull it with a Toyota Highlander XLE AWD. The hitch is a lifesaver. However before watching your video I didn't know about loosening the sway control for backing up. I'll start doing that from now on.
I purchased the r3 dist hitch with my frontier and Winnebago micro mini TT works great..strongly recommend this.I also added helliwig helper springs that I bolted to the current leaf spring of the truck. These two things worked great for me..both can be a little pricey but sometimes you have to pay a little extra to get it right
Hi, I use a ReCurve EAZ as well with my 2021 Lance 1995 and a 2016 Toyota Sequoia. LOVE this system
Excellent video. Have the exact same set up- WDH...with 2015 Tundra.
Husky Centerline TS with 4 pt sway control. No adjustments to the sway control needed and don't need to loosen anything before backing into the campsite. Works almost identical to the equalizer hitch. Love it. Just to point out a measurement even more important than the rear sag is the front lift. Measure just like you did but with the front tires. You want to gain at least half the distance back towards stock ride height after the wd system is fully hooked up compared to when the trailer is simply on the ball.
We bought the Equalizer sway distribution hitch. Pricey, but highly recommended.
This is a great hitch . We made a big mistake and didn't check one side to make sure the bar was locked. When we had gotten home the bar was missing and had some damage to the system not the camper it did exactly like you said it bent the hanger. Lesson learned so buying a new bar and the hanger .
Great video Patrick. I like hitch and I like your Lance towable. It’s a nice size towable. Thank you so much. Great job! 👍See you soon!
We think it is a great size for us. Once we get the slideout fixed, we will be good to go.
Love that system
It’s been working well for us
A female tower here and looking to purchase her first travel trailer of a larger size. Have towed a smaller trailer and didn't need the WD/SWay hitch. Looking for something that is easy for us to use but effective. This seems easy enough. I like the video and feel confident we could do this. Thank you for this. There are so many and so many opinions.
Your videos are really well put together. Great job
Thank you so much for the kind words.
very good, much better visual and detail Thanks
I love my r3 recurve. I would have liked the r6 but i saved a lot of money with the r3.
Yes I just ordered mine today. Eaz Lift recurved R6 1200 lb. My old eaz lift system that I had load from the bottom was killing my back. Nothing easy about it. it was the worst part of hooking up. I went a little heavier than my camper needs just in case I ever upgrade my camper. Thank you for your info. My back thanks you too.
Really good video Patrick. We have the chain system.. works well for us but really like the ease of your distribution system. Great explanation. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Jerry! We really like having the sway included without a separate bar. We paid $600 for this installed. I think it was worth the upgrade.
I love my R3, Talk about a nice quick and easy to use hitch. Its a clean look too. Have a 2019 Ram 1500 and I tow a 2020 Forest River, Wildwood X-Lite 24RLXL Travel Trailer.
Hi John is the R3 hitch really heavy? We have a Reese now that has very heavy bars that hook underneath & chains that you use a pipe. I cannot manage hooking up our WDH so we are looking at the R3 but worried the hitch may be too heavy
We start with a E2 10 years back for our 1st Lance 2285 and are still using it with our 2375! Like our Tundra it just works GREAT!!
They seem to last forever. Our original system is over 13 years old and would have worked. I just liked the idea of the sway built into the hitch.
I have the 12k Equalizer hitch. I love it. Much better than the Reese bar & chain hitch we had with the add on sway bar.
Shopping for sway bar....Good Stuff, Great Tips👍🏿😀 16 F250 XLT Crewcab 4x4
I love the way you say measurement lol, I'm running a curt system and considering a switch
Had an E2 hitch for our 2017 2285 Lance.
Never could get it dialed in. Dealer set up with empty water tank.
Switched to an Andersen WD hitch.
What a difference.
No more bars to deal with.
Easy to make adjustments, just tighten 2 nuts while trailer is still attached.
All components combined only weigh 35 lbs...
Built in sway control by design.
No need to remove or loosen anything when backing up & sharp turns.
It's a completely different design than most others, but it really works....
One of the WDH that Lance recomends.
It is critical that you have the correct brackets for your spcific frame size.
Thanks John....I am going to check that one out.
We have a 2020 RAM Limited Eco Diesel as our tow vehicle for a 2021 NuCamp Tab 400 Camper. Since the TV has air suspension, Tow/Haul Mode and integrated brake controller, we just went with the standard ball hitch. We’ll utilize a friction sway bar on windy days. The truck seems to handle well when hitched to the camper.
I have the exact same hitch and I love it, but I'm also going to put air baga on my truck to help get my truck to the original height, after that I will get the weight hitch readjusted, but hands down its an awesome hitch
Love my Andersen hitch
I hear great things about the Andersen hitch. I really need to try one of those someday.
Good video Patrick we use equalizer hitch and has worked great thx
Thank you! I know a lot of people use the Equilizer Hitches and seem to love them.
This is a better tutorial than the companies' tutorial. Good job!
Thank you so much for the kind words.
I agree! Very helpful! Thank you!!!
I use the blue ox 750 hitch weight distrb and sway....works just fine. We will stick with it. Your system looks cool too. 👍🏻🇺🇸
I have heard people like the Blue Ox system although we have not tried that one before.
We use the Andersen WD hitch. Very quick and easy. Works well with our 400.
I would love to try the Andersen someday. It looks very interesting and have heard great things about it.
Great information.
Thank you Bill!
Gotta take those MAYsurments on a level surface.
Great video on an important and sometimes confusing subject! We went with the Fastway e2 with the 1,000 pound square bars, which is similar to the Equal-i-zer. What I like best about it is that you can keep the bars on when backing up. Plus you can install and remove them even when the tow vehicle and trailer aren’t even close to being lined up which is a must for our driveway.
The r3 and r6 recurve can be left on while backing in. All you have to do is either turn it off or loosen the sway control. Even at an angle it can be removed.
But why? There should be no need to exit your vehicle to allow backing into a site. Besides - you have to adjust the sway every time you hook up!
I've had really good success with the equalizer 4 point.
Pretty sure if he new about Equalizer he’d never have bought his current hitch
Love my Equalizer.
Do you think its necessary to attach on lightweight trailer under 3500lbs towed by SUV vehicle ? Model like Forest-river NO.BO 16.8
@@jamesyao9199 Absolutely 💯%.
Even if you are not necessarily needing the weight distribution Sway Control is paramount for safer towing.
@@kidluk that’s an odd assumption
I was looking that that same system, for are 280 surveyor but after using a friend Andersen hitch I really like how it works for running down back country roads. My truck didn't have the bounce like my old hitch did. Little pricey but safe come first for my family and the people around me.
I have heard good things about the Andersen hitch.
I have 3 Reese hitches that I’ve acquired over time and they are the traditional super heavy hitches that frankly I’m tired of dealing with. There are many great hitches on the market today. I’ve seen this hitch before at the camp grounds the guys that have one say they like it and now with your video I think it’s worth looking into. Thanks!
So far we have been happy with it. I am seeing some positive comments on the Andersen hitch which I want to check out.
@@TravelswithDelaney Thank You
Safe travels enjoy.
Thank you!
WOW! I had the old style with the chains and HATED IT to the point that if I ever bought another RV travel trailer for my V8 powered F-150 I'd buy a trailer so light I wouldn't even NEED a WDH! might change my mind now.THX!
I am the same way could not stand hooking up and unhooking my dads old hitch. This style won’t drag on the dips like the old one.
I have the same one works real well...
I am glad to hear you like yours. So far, we have been happy with it.
We have the Equal-I-zer 4 point system. Works great!
I hear great things about those.
Nice system, congrats. I've used the Blue OX WDH for 6 years now and I'm super happy with it. I would have liked you to measure the same thing on your front wheels.
Thanks...just took delivery of a 2021 1985 equipped with the same hitch (800) setup behind a Ford F-150. today was my first time breaking it down after we got it home. Wish I would have watched your video before hand. Lol Thanks for your entire series.
Congratulations on the new Lance! The R3 works very well. We have trying out the Andersen Weight Distribution system this summer and I like it as well. Both systems do a great job with our 1985.
@@TravelswithDelaney Thank you. We're pretty excited as retired newbie's. Still plowing through all of the user guides and videos. Our 1985 became available after a couple had to cancel their order....otherwise it would have been several months before delivery. They had custom ordered dual 190 watt panels for boondocking which I saw as a plus as we plan on hitting a few Harvest Host's along our explorations. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into recording, editing and producing your videos. I personally know the challenges (and fun) of doing this. Just prior to my retirement as a datacomm engineer (primarily fiberoptics), I also helped doing instructional and promotional videos and voiceovers. Again thanks.
Having a weight distribution system and a sway bar system are a must for us. As my husband says, anything after that means your over your head.
Your husband is right.
He sure is
I have a 2018 Nissan Titan Pro-4X pulling a 2018 Jayco Jayflight and also use the EAZ Lift R3 recurve and love it, no issues and love the adjustable sway control especially travelling across the Texas Panhandle. I did add Air Lifts Air bags on the back to get back to my original measurement as the distribution hitch left it squatting about an inch.
So far, we have been really happy with the R3 system. I would someday like to try the Andersen Weight Distribution system.
Towing a travel trailer across the Texas Panhandle will definitely increase your pucker factor!
@@KeystoneTexan yep those windmills are there for a reason
Great content it's always nice to have Hands-On video for people learning. The only thing I have to add when you do the measurement on the truck it needs to be measured at all four corners and when you are setting up your weight distribution bars the goal needs to be the front measurement needs to be within 1 in or less of unhooked measurement. And trailer needs to be a touch down in the front so I parallel measure the frame off the ground my trailer is an1 3/4" down in the front it's a 34 foot trailer and my front measurement when hooked up to trailer with weight distribution is within 1/2 inch of unhooked height and my toe experience is good. I use the Curt #17500 weight distribution hitch with active sway control no washers to adjust set it and forget it no greasy bars to handle works well 2 trailers five years no issues. I also use Helwig 2500 lb helper springs lifetime warranty adjustable from soft to firm works well . Thanks for sharing your video. I don't see why you can't pack into a campsite without loosening it up if you can drive forward through all the tight turns you should be able to back up also just my opinion and again thank you. I never have had to unhook anything on mine well back in tight places. Just sharing
Yes...you are correct. When they set it up, they were measuring all 4 wheels.
I have been using the Equalizer hitch for the past 9 1/2 years. It has worked great and has been easy to use. I have no problems backing up with the Equalizer. I have used this hitch on three different travel trailers and trucks. I had to adjust (raise one hole) the hitch for my new truck this year. I do not get sucked into the passing 18 wheelers anymore with the new truck. My previous trucks were a 2012 F150 and 2015 F250 Diesel. My new truck is a 2020 Chevy 3500 SRW gasser. My travel trailer is a 2019 Rockwood 2608BS. I love the Lance travel trailers. Awesome video!
That’s awesome! I have heard good things about the Equilizer hitches.
Good to know. We got an Equalizer to tow a 26 ft. TT with a Dodge Ram 1500.
I just bought a camper. I’ve had campers in the past, but they were smaller and lighter than this one. It came with an equalizer weight distribution system. I know very little about that type of thing because my campers were always small and didn’t need anything. This camper weighs 4500 pounds dry weight. I’m going to be towing it with my 1994 Ford F150. It did come with the tow package. I took it out for a test spin around the block and up some small hills, but did not have the weight distribution system on just my old hitch. I noticed that it does porpoise. Will the equalizer help reduce the porpoising?
I use the Hensley Hitch, it's pricey but so is safety. There is O sway with this thing and with the load distribution bars always attached you just use your drill to tighten and loosen them. Best investment I have made. There is also the Pro Ride which is similar in design.
And the whole hitch system stays on your TT. No messing with heavy WD bars! Excellent hitch - highly recommended.
Thanks. Great! I broke down and got a Tundra.
Congratulations! What color? Year? Trim Package?
Travels with Delaney grey, 2019, platinum
Great video. I have the same hitch system for my 25’ travel trailer and 2019 Tundra Crewmax. It works great and is very easy to use!
I have the same system, but with 1200 bars. Works great. When on interstates, I turn the anti sway a little bit more than you.
We just have the standard hitch, ball and socket, no weight distribution or sway. I am going to check out this system you demonstrated, I think that would be much safer for us. Thanks Patrick, hope you and Patty have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
You really only need a sway bar on your 400. That is what we used when we had ours and it worked great.
Just got my first trailer a month ago with the exact same sway system. The dealer didn’t go into detail like you did. A bar popped off 3 times before we figured out ourselves how to lock bar in.
Great video!!
Thank you! Our dealer had warned me about looking them in and I swore I had that 2nd time but apparently I just didn’t push down far enough. Now I always double check them.
Your parts looked familiar. And once I saw your tool, I knew you had the hitch that I bought. We have an older F250 pulling a Coachmen 246RKS. It is a 28 ft trailer, 4800 dry, 7000 max. The hitch is great. Smooth on the highway, corners well, relatively quiet too. I think I too am going to remove the bars when backing up and needing tight turns but not with more straightforward backing. Have to get myself psyched up to pick that thing up though! It is strong, nice, and heavy!
We have been very happy with ours so far. Took me a bit to get use to it but now I love it.
cool thanks
Thanks!
What are the measurements of the front wheel wells with and without the anti sway/ load leveling system
Truck is a 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4x4 double cab 6.5 ft bed towing 2020 Grand Design 17MKE using a Equalizer 90-00-1000 system. I have to use a 2.5 to 2 inch sleeve to use this hitch as when I bought it we had a 2 inch receiver on our 1/2 ton Silverado. There is some “slop” so we use a tightening clamp to make it more solid.
The setup works great! Both vehicles it did well so I’m liking this system but it’s the only one I ever have used. I did not want a Chain setup and wanted to be able to backup with the weight bars if needed.
Like you, I disconnect the transfer bars when backing up long distances or up my steep driveway.
Great video and very detailed! Thanks for the information, Bill in Utah
Thank you Bill! That truck should have no issues with the trailer you are towing.
@@TravelswithDelaney
Thanks! Well other than less than 10mpg and the super high mountain passes above 9,000 feet the 6.0l does work a little harder. Our trailer could be more aerodynamic but it is what it is.
Take care
Curt it works great
Hi Patrick and Patty!! I hope you two are doing really well!! Whew...we've had historical level of tourists in Ouray both last year and this year.
Well....my f350 arrived in June. Our Outdoors RV travel trailer should arrive by late September-ish. I was just inquiring with the dealer with regards to their weight distributing hitches in stock; they said they carry the Equalizer E2 hitch and these Eaz-lift R6's. I told the rep that we will be almost exclusively doing boondocking here in CO and the immediate surrounding states, so I would prefer a hitch that doesn't hang low. So, they directed me to the Eaz-lifts. I wasn't familiar with them, so searched on RUclips. And what do you know, you had a video on the R3s!!
Safe travels to you two plus puppies!!
Hi Alan! We have heard that it was crazy busy out your way this summer.
With a three-quarter ton truck you don't need extra springs it pulls better uphill , and has larger brakes. They often come setup for trailer brakes and have transmission oil coolers too!
I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to explain 🤔
You still are looking at similar tongue weight capacity. Yes larger truck with a smaller trailer will tow better as far as power but Sway Control is still a very important factor.
My trailer has 1k dry tongue weight so even with my 1Ton truck I need weight distribution. And I'm running about 15 thousand loaded with a tall toy hauler so Sway Control is very important for Safety.
Had an Equalizer hitch for 30 ft Forest River Super Light Flagstaff. Sway was extremely scary and we lost control due to wind and went over into the next lane narrowly avoiding another vehicle. Purchased reconditioned Hensley Swift Arrow (has chain adjustment) from factory. Absolutely no sway ever. Emergency stops straight on the road. Yes it is a learning curve to hitch up with it if not straight or unlevel. Wouldn't change because it does the job. And yes it is heavy.
sounds like the equalizer wasn't installed correctly 🤔
Thank you for a very informative demonstration of this wd hitch. I have been looking at one at my local rv dealer, but I never asked about it. I wonder if they'll let me compare it to my other wd hitch?
We are very new to towing a trailer and not knowing any better we requested the full hitch and 2 sway bars when we purchaced for Geo Pro 19fbs. I think many of our problems getting those sway bars on are due to our inexperience, it gets a little easer every time we hook up and I'm sure by next season we will be hooking up with no problem.
Practice will definitely help. You’ll be a pro in not time Dan!
No distribution system required for our T@B. Great information for those that do need the system.
We didn’t use any weight distribution with our 400 either.
Need a close up demo on adjusting the weight distribution please. Enjoy the videos !
Thank you
It's easy. Just grab the tools required find a flat level parking lot. Then start assembly according to the instructions.
Takes all of about 45 minutes to complete.
Just don't forget to take your MEASURING STICK WITH YOU!!🤣👍👍
Hoping to purchase the Flagstaff Micro Lite 25BRDS in the next 2-3 weeks and am planning on the Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch with sway control.
I would love to try the Andersen....it definitely intrigues me.
Really like the hitch, in fact I’m keeping it and put it on the new trailer I’m purchasing. Enjoyed your video thank you
I use R3’s on all my trailers travel cargo and boats
Really good video thank you for that. I have that exact truck in a 2020 right down to the color I really like that hitch I will definitely look into it as we are looking to purchase an upgrade from a hybrid to a 26 foot travel trailer thanks again
I have the Equalizer system and find it very useful for my application. I wasn’t advised by my RV dealer to purchase one at delivery.
They should have warned me that even with my smaller Forrest River FQ16 trailer when traveling the highways the traffic such as 18 wheelers and large trucks would really blow the trailer and cause sway very badly. One trip and my mind was made up that for $459.00 it would be cheap to feel safer and have no sway.
Also the tongue weight isn’t as great as some trailers but it really sagged my Expedition EL truck and made the steering awful light. After the Equalizer that went away and leveled my truck a huge amount. Set up was explained very well and I did it myself. I recently changed vehicles to a GMC Yukon XL “suburban” and tested my setup from the Expedition. It was perfect !!! No need for adjustment at all. Although the Ford and GMC are different they are in the same class. Note also the GMC has an air ride leveling system that Ford doesn’t so it all worked out. One very nice feature I noticed on your anti sway/ leveling hitch is the adjustability and ability to loosen the sway system for maneuvering. Great idea, I’ve found especially on my Ford with the Equalizer sharp maneuvering turns would keep forces on the frame of the truck and I would see the centering of the steering wheel be off center until I either turned the opposite direction or did some left to right swaying intentionally and it would reset the weight properly. Strange but it was noticed. The system you have would eliminate that by loosening it before sharp turn maneuvering. Thanks for the great demo.
Thank you for sharing your story Roger. I think many people have the same experience as you where the dealer doesn’t suggest one and then when towing on a freeway, the tow experience is very nerve wracking with winds and semi trucks passing.
We just purchased and installed a R3 for our new Jayco RL24. Heading out on our first trip tomorrow. I really like the way the R3 operates, but I would like to make a couple of suggestions for someone considering this or any hitch. First, I could not attach the bar hangers on one side of the frame due to a keeper bracket for the wiring that the manufacturer had installed dead center between the propane tanks and the battery box attachment. There was no way to work around it, so I had to remove the keeper. I don’t think this is going to be a problem, but I may relocate the keeper later. Secondly, none of the manufacturer’s videos or written instructions cover specifically how to adjust the turn screw that sets the weight distribution bars downforce. This adjustment is important to get equal height between the front and rear axles on the tow vehicle. It appears that it is done be trial and error.
I noticed that you didn’t measure the front wheels in your video and said that you were transferring more weight to the trailer axels. While this may be true, the important thing is to transfer weight to the front wheels of the tow vehicle for improved steering and braking. You did a very good job in describing the sway control system and how to adjust it.
Finally, it should be noted that the hitch requires proper lubrication with a grease gun and a bit of grease should be applied to the inside of the trailer tongue ball receiver to eliminate noise. This should be done prior to each trip.
I have a similar hitch but the sway bar is separate. Be mindful of those pins mine seem to be held in place by friction only and came loose from the sheet metal spring or tab. Because the weight dist. bars on mine load from the bottom up it was obvious something was wrong and I was able to reset the pin. Also my trailer is single axle and I've found the bars actually help me hold a straight line when backing but I do have to remove the sway ctrl. which I've yet to remember before trying to back unsuccessfully.
Interesting! I like your WD system. Are you able to open your tailgate without hitting the smart jack on your travel trailer?
MAYsure
Learning a lot from your videos. We have a WDH now on our 22ft mini lite but looking for one that I can hook up. Ours is too heavy, connects underneath, has chains & a pipe thing. I can’t manage it. I want to be able to do it all - just in case. We travel in CO,WY,UT& MT boobdocjing over the summer. How does the R3 do with sway in strong winds? We are looking at R3, Anderson or fastway E2.
We use a Centerline weight distribution system for our Lance 1985 trailer to achieve the 21 1/2" Lance recommended ball height. Works great!!
Good video. Do you ever take a before and after measurement at the front of the vehicle? Thanks for sharing! Steve
Yes...when they set it up originally on the Tacoma, they were taking measurements on the front and the back.
Haven’t used this WD system but seems to have a design flaw with the bars inserted from the top. Makes it so you have to be really careful that the bars click in place. If the bars were inserted from the bottom or were trunnion it wouldn’t be an issue. Thanks for the info though.
My dealer recommended the Husky Center line ts system , yours looks interesting , any pros and cons ??
Informative video. Have you noticed how many times you say "go ahead"?
No but now I will have to watch the video and check it out....go ahead! LOL
Get the right Truck.... is always the correct answer!!!
Safety Safety Safety 👍
And which one would that be?
Fastway E2. Very happy w/ it.
Brion install an air lift system onto Big Gray and with conjunction with an 'Curt' anti sway bar onto Shadow! things move quite smoothly...ON DOWN THE ROAD!
Air bags do not increase payload capacity. They just shift the weight back onto the rear axle negating what the Weight Distribution system did.
Rather than trying to tweak your hitch I think it'd be better to add so air lift bags suspension with the wireless remote. This way you can fine tune level and also obtain a better ride control.
We had airbags on the old Tundra when we hauled the 5th wheel. Toyota service said they’d be overkill for a trailer this size so we don’t want to spend that much money for something we don’t really need. The hitch just needed brought up one hole setting. It’s fine now. They have to be set properly to work properly
We have the same Curve model, except it has a 2" ball, we had to use the 2 5/16" magnetic ball adaptor, but it seems to be working well. This video helped me know I have mine installed correctly, this video has the ball with the height all the way up like mine, I have a Keystone Rugged Terrain which sits up higher and I could not get it close to level unless I used it like he has done, I have F150 half ton and pulls it well, my concerns are now gone.
Except, the two pins that hold the sway bars, I use the outer, before when we used the inner hole it made to much noise, why do they have 2 holes for the pins?
Currently using the Recurve R6 ...probably switching to Andersen hitch this spring. Looking for something lighter to work with as I get older.
That Andersen hitch looks very intriguing. I love the idea of lighter and you don’t have to remove it to back up.
I had the Equalizer and now have the Andersen and I LOVE it.
You do not have to do anything before you back up! This WDH is designed so you can back up without losing or adjusting anything!
Great Video! What size bars did you use, when you did use WD on the Hummingbird 16FD? With the Jack-It bike rack and two bikes, I am thinking the tongue weight will be around 430 lbs. Glad you are enjoying your Lance! A Lance will be in my long distant future closer to retirement. Those look like #3 stickers of the late great Dale E? Happy Camping
I don't remember what size bars those were on the HB. It was an old weight distribution system we had from many years ago so we just used it. I am sure they were more than we needed with that trailer.
You got a bent pin at the end of that first bar!!
We had an equalizer hitch and honestly it did fine but I felt a few strange wiggles that would happen out of no where, possibly cross winds. Because I wasn't 100% confident in it I decided to put a Hensley on. I've not had enough towing experience with it yet but you seldom find a bad review on a Hensley. The nice thing is there's nothing special you have to do to either hitch to backup which is the way it should be.
The Hensley's are nice but there big downfalll is you have to be on very level ground to hitch or unhitch. We have friends with one and they have not been unable to hitch from it before at a state park because the site was not level.
@@TravelswithDelaney Well I've heard that claim but I've seen a lot of people say you just have to learn to set the "attitude" of the hitch when you unhook it. From what I've seen so far, you don't want to back all the tension off your weight distribution bars if your truck sits with a decent rake. The jacks (assuming they have that model and not the chain model) control the tilt of the hitch and need to be adjusted to match your truck's hitch angle. My RAM sits with a lot of rake so I leave a decent amount of tension on the bars when I unhook. I don't have a lot of experience with it yet though.
Interesting setup, but having to loosen the collar to before backing up seems like a big negative compared to other similarly priced WD-Sway control products like the Equal-i-zer, or Blue Ox Sway Pro. What's the difference between this product and the cheaper units (that use a separate friction bar) since both need to be loosened before you can back-up? Nice RV, btw :-)
I have the same system now for three years and have never loosened the collar to back up? My dealer advised against it
Great video…but I have a comment. I have the same camco WDH,my Rockford mini lite weighs 4600 lbs. my camper dealer originally installed the 1000 bars and it rode so rough and bounced up and down going down the road. I called Camco service and they were great, they advised the bars I had were too much. I needed the 600 lb bars. They called my camper dealer and educated them not to sell everyone the 1000 lb bars but to match the bars to the weight of the RV. Camco sent me the correct bars and didn’t even ask for the 1000 lbs back Wow what a difference the 600lbs bars made in ride quality. Soooo smooth. So I noticed your camper, it appears to be in the size range of my Mini light double axel, so are you happy with the 1000 lb bars? Or does your camper weigh nearly 10,000 lbs?
