Haha yes! I've been saved a few times by it even on 1! I do wonder if it would have saved the crash if I had it up higher! It's basically been on 1 since I bought it 2 years ago 😂
Sorry to hear about the off, man! That was a lesson to us all! It can happen very quickly! Glad you are OK though and the damage was not too bad. All the best
Thank you! Makes me feel a bit better 😂 It's crazy how quick it goes.. I do think most would struggle to save it. The only way would have been seeing it and avoiding!
Mate glad you’re ok. If you had your traction control set higher than 1 it probably would have saved you. You can hear you touched the throttle whilst going over the gravel.
Thanks! Yeah not sure if it would or not. Front slipped first then the rear followed so not sure if TC would have saved the front end. The throttle would have stopped with higher traction control though! We will never know haha
Exactly my thoughts too. Wonder if it would have helped on a higher traction control setting. Glad you are safe. Delighted with your cheerful spirit after that. Cheaper to replace broken bike parts than serious body injuries. Looking at the brighter side.
Aw man that sucks, but hey, thanks for the demonstration of having proper gear on yourself and the bike😂. It really could have been much worse and glad you are okay.
Wow, a lesson for all of us to watch out for the crap on the roads. Exhausts, crash bars can all be replaced and looked to be superficial damage. You can’t be replaced and well done for getting up and carrying on. The biggest injury was probably your pride! 👍
Thanks for putting this up and sharing your experience. Seems like you may have given the throttle a little twist just as you were going around the corner and that took some weight off the front?
The throttle twist was because the bike slipped under me, and as my elbow was low due to cornering, it slipped down and pulled the throttle on. Definitely not on purpose!
Great video. Nice to see I'm not the only one who had a slippery back end through a ford recently. Took my GSA on its longest ride through Devils staircase in Wales. Absolutely loved it. If you ever get a chance try it out. Glad you weren't hurt in the spill.

Thanks bud. Yeah I've watched a number of times, frame by frame at points to try to work out If I could have saved it. Besides being further back, it was pretty inevitable. Happy for the gear!
I hit gravel on a bend last year doing 60 on my SAS. The front tyre slid sideways to the nearside about a foot but it was in the heatwave, the roads were super hot and my tyres were super hot so my front tyre regained traction as it slid off the gravel. Very lucky. Could have been horrible, fence and hedgerow to left, traffic oncoming... Anyway I stopped at a cafe 5 mins later and grabbed a coffee to recompose myself and let the adrenaline dissipate. Lateral washouts happen so quick you just don't see it coming. I'm extra vigilant about gravel on bends now. Good that you were not hurt.
Wow that was not how I saw that coming, but a definite advocate for gear and bars. Glad you were ok. Telling a story and laughing about it is what matters. Ride safe, LJ
Not sure bud. The front end slipped first so I don't think any traction control would save that. My arm dropped and opened the throttle which span the rear wheel up more, so it might have saved that. Even in TC1, the bike has saved the more extreme slides, on and off road, so I'm not sure. Was really thick gravel about 2ft across the road

Oddly enough, from what I can see from videos and tutorials I've seen, most of the advanced riding course teach you to cross from the outside to inside, or vice versa, when you can see the exit of the corner.. meaning if I was riding in either track, following their guidance, I'd have been in the same position. Glad your all good and always the exhaust side that goes down that rear end just went out Get back on the Michelins 6 True rider get back on and give it some love it
Haha ill try! Mainly because editing takes far longer when you have to track the blur to the screens. Plus the speed can still be calculated by camera frame rate, and the scenery passing!
Got a full breakdown vid coming soon! Just waiting for some repair parts to arrive so I can finish the vid! I came off VERY lightly. Jacket and Trousers were great.. Small scratch on my leg
Sorry to see you crashed. I did have a crash myself two months ago where the road was suddenly iced up. No physical damage, just feeling like a d..k. When I was back home in the evening I started to feel "the landing spot". My lucky part was that icy roads make bikes slide easily so damage was not to bad. Happy to see you were ok. Also when you got back home? I presume you have some content coming about the aftermath now😉?
Sorry to hear of your crash too! Glad the bike wasn't damaged! Haha yes video coming of the aftermath! I'm all okay and spare parts on the way! I basically only had a bruise on my leg for a few days but I'm fine otherwise!
Good morning, I looked and it looks like the curve was oil stain or patched. You could have taken picture to report bad tat there, right? . Greetings Pako
I'm sorry about your crash Sam. I'm glad you're ok. You run in Rally mode to wheelie but you have no wheel spin control that way and the KTM 1290 motor is too powerful. Too risky?
Thank you! The bike still saves most of the slides even on TC1. Its still on but just less intrusive. I dont think any amount of traction control would have saved that as the gravel was so thick
@@SamVBikes Thank you for taking time to read my comment. I have to thank you Sam, for your channel and adventures, as I purchased a new 1290 SAS (my 22nd bike) after watching your videos. I never new I was a KTM Boy! I have just experienced myself a rear slide while commuting to work on a mini roundabout. I inadvertently changed the engine map without knowing (probably by flicking C1 or probably I forgot to reverse to street mode while still learning to navigate the system). I've had a few moments over the last 25 years, especially with the Tuono V2, and other bikes too. The 1290 torque is too much for the mighty Mitas 🙂 Is there a way to have the Anti-Wheelie Control off while still having full Anti-Wheel Spin on? I would prefer if KTM had a direct proprietary buttons for engine maps and ABS. You did handle your spill with grace and panache Sam, I give you that. Keep smiling and laughing Sam, brilliant 🙂. Thanks again
You're more than welcome! Congratulations on the new bike too! I dont think there is a way to turn the wheelie control and slide control off/on separately unfortunately but I find in TC4, the bike will still wheelie without the back sliding too much! Thank you for watching and commenting!

I was going to come on this but couldn’t make it Was you still on the trail attack 3’s Sam? Ironic your last video was saying you can just fly over any bit of muck in the road 😂 glad your ok mate
It was bad luck but i am happy that you have nothing and minor damages to the bike Little paint work will shine your bars again Wing exhaust alternative will be a great idea.
Glad you’re ok, just a few scratches and not even a bruised ego :-) Any lessons learned? P.S. I’d hoped that all that tech would save the slide. Do you know which mode / MTC / MSC settings you were in? Cheers!
The crash on the gravel wasn't saveable I don't think, in that situation anyway. Could have held back from the truck a bit more though, and would have seen it sooner to avoid it. The river crossing... well that was just stupid accelerating at the bottom 😂 I was in Rally mode, with the traction control on minimum so that may have saved me too! But yes, all okay!
Not sure if it would have saved it, but would have stopped the wheel spinning up and possibly helped. The gravel was very deep so only a knobbly tyre would have had a chance. The front dropped out so I doubt any traction control would have saved it
@@SamVBikes gotcha, sorry for the fallx at least you and the bike is goodz i saw only damage to the exhuast which is painfull but the bara saved the bike which i think is more important.
depending on the country but you can actually make a complain to the town / city where you crashed for the maintenance of the roads being the reason you crashed especialy in your case where the gravel was in the middle you couldnt evade it! in this case theu are responsible for the state of the roads and the city/town insurance has to pay for your repairs

@@SamVBikes Pride always comes before a fall. I'd say leave the pride at home, especially venturing out into the clown world we live in.. "Aint nobody got time fo dat!"
looking at that gravel or not..the traction control if set up properly would definitely have saved that, in rally mode tc1 you want the bike to spin up, that's the whole idea of that function, on a shitty cold road in April with it raining as well you are literally asking for trouble..sorry...you're ok that's the main thing
The thickness of the gravel and the fact that the front end slipped first, I don't think any amount of traction control would have saved it unfortunately. It may have saved me if the back didn't spin up as much but will never know! My traction control has essentially been on level 1 since I bought the bike nearly 2 years ago riding almost every day, apart from on icey mornings. It's never affected me before, and the bike still saves the back end stepping too far out even on TC1, so I think this was just too much Yes definitely the main thing, no one was hurt! Mainly because editing takes far longer when you have to track the blur to the screens. Plus the speed can still be calculated by camera frame rate, and the scenery passing!
Sorry for your crash, glad you’re okay.
Thank you!
Oh no 😞 That was a bit of bad luck Sam and not the riding-like-a-knob scenario I expected.
Haha yeah! I fully expected it to happen when I was riding quicker, but glad it wasn't!
Any news re damage and a walk round of the big , did you trousers and jacket hold out
Got a full breakdown vid coming soon! Just waiting for some repair parts to arrive so I can finish the vid! I came off VERY lightly. Jacket and Trousers were great.. Small scratch on my leg
From camera view that looked like an oil spill with a little bit of drizzle on top. A story with happy ending is always remembered best.
Yeah very true! It was really thick gravel that must have come off the back of a truck!
@@SamVBikes Good to hear Sam, looking forward to the next upload as usual!
Thank you mate 🙌🏼💪🏼
Good morning, I looked and it looks like the curve was oil stain or patched. You could have taken picture to report bad tat there, right? . Greetings Pako
Hey Pako! It was thick gravel, but yes I will try to report it!
Glad you are ok. would crash bobbins have saved the muffler?
Cheers bud! No I don't think so, the swingarm hasn't got a mark on it, so I think the only thing that would have save it would be pannier racks!
Hey Sam you and your low side has made it onto the latest moto stars crash compilations
Had something similar happen to me the crash bars are a god send.
Glad you and the bike was ok.
Happy days 😎👍
Thank you mate! You're right, I'd have been a lost worse off without the bars
I threw a brand new 2 day old suzuki bandit down the road some years ago.a mate told me I had to be 'zen' about these things.coz some times shit happens and at least we are ok.
Sucks doesn't it! Best way to be about things.. you'll end up causing more damage if you stay annoyed about it
Ooof. Unlucky to have one crash, and lucky to avoid another!
Haha yeah very true!
its a wierd feeling watching knowing whats going to happen just dont know when. good was only superficial damaged and no harm to yourself ofcourse. good advert for the crash bars hope they send you a new set gratis 😄
Haha! I didn't think about that! Sorry for the minutes of trepidation!
Haha so do I! I think it may be happening! Wonder if Arrow will do the same 😂
@@SamVBikes thats awesome 🤞
Gutted for you re your pipe and bars- where did the ride take place ?
Definitely but all replaceable! It was over in Worcestershire so some lovely roads
Pannier frames would have saved the day...or at least the exhaust!
I was looking at getting some of the Outback Motortek ones a few weeks ago, but thought it was unnecessary spending 😂
Parts can be replaced its just stuff, glad you're ok thats the main thing.
Definitely mate! Glad no one got hurt
Oh s**t gutted for you mate. Glad your ok though. I do remember when 44teeth was with white dalton and they done a bit on gravel ? Check it out fingers crossed you can claim that back on the council 🤷🏻♂️. Fingers crossed for you mate 👍.
Yeah mate I think it was! I'm gonna try to claim on the council but I'm not hugely confident I'll get much out of it!
@@SamVBikes maybe it could be long winded but least you might not be out of pocket ? You have it on camera. Maybe only show them that bit 🤣🤣. An in another way the rebuild makes good content 👍.
Yeah I won't show them the bit running up to the crash... just the sedate part 😂😂
Yes! Got parts on the way.. got to love that unexpected free content. Free being an expensive word there ha
@@SamVBikes haha. Yeah you not wrong there mate. Glad your ok though mate 👍.
Was it gravel, looked like oil or mud on the vid (but it's dark and I'm tired from riding all weekend so I dunno 😅)
I was hoping it was an April fool’s joke, but glad you’re ok ✌️
Haha would have been cheaper if it was! Thank you bud
I was going to come on this but couldn’t make it Was you still on the trail attack 3’s Sam? Ironic your last video was saying you can just fly over any bit of muck in the road 😂 glad your ok mate
Yes mate still on the TA3's. I think I'd have only saved that if I was on proper knobblies! Thank you mate!
It was bad luck but i am happy that you have nothing and minor damages to the bike Little paint work will shine your bars again Wing exhaust alternative will be a great idea.
Thank you! Yes it could be the replacement If I can't get mine repaired!
The river crossing... well that was just stupid accelerating at the bottom 😂
I was in Rally mode, with the traction control on minimum so that may have saved me too!
But yes, all okay!
so if you had traction on a higher level maybe the bike would have saved you?
Not sure if it would have saved it, but would have stopped the wheel spinning up and possibly helped. The gravel was very deep so only a knobbly tyre would have had a chance. The front dropped out so I doubt any traction control would have saved it
@@SamVBikes gotcha, sorry for the fallx at least you and the bike is goodz i saw only damage to the exhuast which is painfull but the bara saved the bike which i think is more important.
Yes I'm very happy I had the bars!! They saved so much more damage!
depending on the country but you can actually make a complain to the town / city where you crashed for the maintenance of the roads being the reason you crashed especialy in your case where the gravel was in the middle you couldnt evade it! in this case theu are responsible for the state of the roads and the city/town insurance has to pay for your repairs
Well that was an odd one, just bad luck Glad your ok 👍
Thank you! Yeah just disappeared from under me!
Hello! Would it be okay to use it in moto edit? Full credited of course
Hey! Yeah sure!
@@SamVBikes Thanks a lot :)
dude! damn! that happened quick!! glad your good to go except for the ego lol i contacted those guys before to see if they were gonna make bars for the panam and they said no, i was kinda disappointed......AltRider is developing some though......look like you might hit your throttle in that turn also, wel i will say you sold me on barkbusters!....man, shit can happen so quick!!! again, glad your good to go! sláinte
Yeah it went down so fast! But so happy I have the protection on the bike! The throttle pull was because my elbow was low, so when the bike slipped my weight went down onto my elbow. Should have had the arm slightly to the right so it didn't drop and roll on!
@@SamVBikes gotcha...your smart and wear gear, i started wearing good gear last year...i'd love to ride one of those KTM's but I'm vertically challnged lol I would have felt the same way about the exhaust!
As far as crashes go, that could have been so much worse. Also, I'm now buying crash bars.
Definitely could! Got away very lightly!
What was that you were saying.. Oops... You'll be fine Sam s*** happens buddy 👍
Crash bars did a great job ❤
Haha yeah it does! Never mind!
What year is your SAS?
2021 bud!
Main thing is, you're okay mate.
Exactly bud!
@@SamVBikes At least you didn't cheap out on gear.
Just out of curiosity. What tyres were on at the time off the accident mate
Agreed! They are the Conti Trail Attack 3s! Basically road tyres. I think I'd only have been safe on a proper knobbly
Glad you ok! That was a slide not a crash you very lucky you never hit anything, Good video 👍
Thank you!
Single handedly sold me on those crash bars and maybe the wings. I like the dominator too. But know nothing about the brand.
Haha! I'm so happy I invested in those bars! I've just found out the Wings doesn't have an E mark on it so not legal on the roads in the EU... so I might have to stick with Arrow
I was tense watching this video knowing what was going to happen...
...saying "Lethal Drizzle" into the corner immediately disarmed my tension! 😂😂
Pleased you are ok is the main thing.
😂😂😂 The famous noughties rapper Lethal Drizzle haha!
Yeah so am I mate! Parts can be replaced! Pride... that might take a while to come back 😂
@@SamVBikes it's almost as if what you'd need to get your pride back is 250+ miles on a brand new bike over some winding passes etc... 🤔🤔😁
Then lose it all again sitting at 56mph in the pissing rain trying to slipstream a lorry for hours on end 😂😂😂
@@SamVBikes Pride always comes before a fall. I'd say leave the pride at home, especially venturing out into the clown world we live in..
"Aint nobody got time fo dat!"
Bugger…..glad you’re ok though, that’s the most important thing.
Definitely bud, no one was hurt which is the main thing
Oh mate. That was not nice to watch. Glad you're all good, though. ;-)
All good bud, I came off very lightly. Glad we weren't riding faster!
looking at that gravel or not..the traction control if set up properly would definitely have saved that, in rally mode tc1 you want the bike to spin up, that's the whole idea of that function, on a shitty cold road in April with it raining as well you are literally asking for trouble..sorry...you're ok that's the main thing
It's never affected me before, and the bike still saves the back end stepping too far out even on TC1, so I think this was just too much
Yes definitely the main thing, no one was hurt! Parts are replaceable
Glad your ok brother. Material things are replaceable.
Thank you mate!
Looks like you had a great day bud. I wonder what group you was in 🤔 That’s water crossing… my arse nearly dropped out 😂
😂😂 yeah the water crossing was hilarious! A few others have messaged saying they slipped out too so I feel less useless haha
@@SamVBikes I bet yours was the worse one 😂 did you think you was your brother drifting 😂
Yeah I watched Tokyo Drift the night before, then got jealous of the bro, and had to give it a shot 😂😂😂
Glad alls ok Sam metal stuff can be replaced blood bits not so easy.
Yes bud! At least no one was hurt!
Hey, no one told me there was a KTM group I could apply to ¬_¬ Re the crash... unlucky bud 😕 handlebar is bent?
Haha there are a few UK groups now! All on FB. Surprisingly the bars don't seem to be bent. Going to get measuring and replace them if needed
Do a vid on how to check the bars pls bud, we've all done this and I never how to check if they're bent and end up replacing them just to be safe 😂
Haha! Yes I've done the same before! But they are so expensive these days!
It actually made me jump when you went down glad everything is reasonably ok 👍
Haha You and me both! Thank you
TC completely off?
Nope just turned down low which probably didn't help
As long as your ok mate that's all that matters. Shame about your bike but you're ok can easily happen to anyone. Always painful when you damage your bike. Thought you dealt with it pretty well I'd have been major p.....d off.
Thank you mate! Haha yeah I was pretty annoyed with myself that evening but can't change it! Glad it wasn't worse
It was a great couple of days.. “it even crashes nicely” 😂
😂😂 Best bike in the world ha! Great to finally meet you mate
