Can I just say how much I appreciate you showing us how to take OFF the light itself. Every other video starts with it already off and completely negates the point of finding out how to replace it!
Thank you for this basic “change the bulb” vid. Not the dozens of “retrofit” vids. You re making me look like a genius to my wife. Thanks for the win gents.
I bought my house 4 years ago, and the living room has two rows of recessed lights, one on each side of the room. They went out on one side, and I thought maybe there was an electrical short and was going to call an electrician when I could afford it. I never thought about light bulbs being inside of them! 🙄 Thank you for helping me fix this myself and save money! 💰
Glad that you are learning and laughing. We try to keep it light and fun and feel that leaving the “outtakes” in, helps to do that. Thanks for watching and commenting, we appreciate it!😎👍
Thanks for making this video! It was super helpful to change the light bulb in my shower stall. I was wondering how I was going to get that cover off. Your instructions were spot on. Luckily I didn't have to pull the latches out as there was a small spiral bulb in mines that I was able to remove by leaning the cover to the side. I replaced the bulb in less than 3 mins!
Apparently I’m late to “the party” but Omg thank you so much for making and posting this video. My hubby died 😢 and with the help of RUclips university I’ve been teaching myself to do all the tasks he would normally handle. I’m definitely adding this one to my “useful info” playlist. It LITERALLY took me 5 mins to do this. Thanks again. #newsubby
Thanks for this video! I wanted to change to LED bulb but I had no idea what to do! And yes, always there is something unexpected things when I try to do something… 😊
My check list to perform this great ( for me) feat. 1. Watch video. 2. Convince self I can do this. 3. Put towel down in tub ( light is directly under the bath tub). 4. Pray hard. 5. Watch video again. Put step ladder in tub on top of towel and begin the climb. 6. Remove the cover as instructed in this video. 7. Stretch arm as long as possible while succumbing to the fact the lightbulb is stuck and only way to get it out is to go to the top step of the ladder. 8. Climb down ladder. Take deep breath and pray again. 9. Look straight up at the lightbulb and proclaim "I will triumph!!" 10. Climb up ladder to top stop whilst praying I don't fall. 11. Unscrew stuck lightbulb; replace with new lightbulb. 12. Turn on switch to make certain new bulb is working. 13. Scratch head whilst attempting to figure out how to get the clip back into place. 14. Watch video again. 15. Grab flashlight and announce " Oh little clippy holder thingy where are you?" 16. Squeeze clip and place back into clippy holder thingy. 17. Place cover back on 18. Climb down from ladder ; feel a degree of pride. 19. Thank God for protecting me. 20. Turn on light switch and proclaim "Success!! I have triumphed!!! 21. Post to this video with a great deal of gratitude; excellent instructions. ❤
Basic or not - it was very helpful! I've had to change mine before and wind up calling a handyman for something I could so easily do. So this time I went to do it myself and the cover wouldn't go back on! Ugh! Anyway, I got it now. Thanks!
The part that the piece on yours goes into the silver metal clip, mines freaking plastic and has broken off on both sides. Idk how the hell to find only that piece and if I could change the plastic out for metal. I’m so pissed with the builders of this house. My grandparents got robbed. Everything these people did was cheap cheap cheap. Finding it all out now 8 years later
They definitely aren’t as easy as just unscrewing a lightbulb, that’s for sure. We hope your kitchen remodel looks fantastic. Thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
My disng is a super rare and awful one with the bulb houses in a aluminium canister, and the light and glass came attached to it. You have to carefully rotate the plastic clip that goes on the ceiling, but I don't know how to remove the glass part. I'm guessing you pry it, but I'm scared it might break.
If it doesn't pull down like that, is it a different type of cover? I used a screwdriver to loosen it and was able to get my fingers under the cover and pull, but it just stops hard after about an inch, and there's no way to pull it further without yanking it so hard I'd break something. It definitely does not behave the way the cover in this video does. Is there something else I need to do for a different type of cover or something?
📌My recessed lights are too tight to the ceiling to take off , i tried using a flat head but it was just making a hole in the ceiling any other suggestions ?
The putty knife that I had was made of plastic and it would bend more than the screwdriver, not allowing me to get a much leverage to loosen up the light from the ceiling. A metal putty knife, being sturdier, would have worked as well. Please let me know if that answers your question. Thanks for watching!😎👍
Oh no, sorry to hear that. Was there a spot for latches and it just didn’t have any or that particular recessed light didn’t come with any? Also, like in the video, you still want to have both hands on the light until you pull it out of the ceiling just in case. Again, sorry to hear about that.
@@Tools4Guys No sweat brother, ended up getting those LED ones and ended up getting WAAAY better lightning (more secure too) for around $20. Always a silver lining!
I'm 65. My husband died recently. I have problem changing light. I'm scared to climb ladders ect. I just have to find a handy man around here. I CAN'T DO THIS THINGS NO MORE😢
I’m sorry for your loss but you can do things! Maybe not this but you can do a lot. I know grief is hard but you’re allowed to take on some of his jobs now. It’s never easy but he would be proud of you for trying. God bless you!
Lol, heck no Barry, as soon as the video was finished, I went back up there and cleaned it out. I’m glad you were paying attention to the details though, lol. Thanks for watching and commenting, we appreciate it!😎👍

Lol, if my husband had made even the tiniest effort to fix something we might still be married. Never fixed anything but got mad when I would, smh.
@blueswallowtail4628 sorry to hear that, but thats not a man.
I couldn't figure it out
Ty for this vid
This video still helping in 2024. Thanks so much!

I thought you had to replace the whole thing. Thanks
So why do you like using the screwdriver over the putty knife?
The putty knife that I had was made of plastic and it would bend more than the screwdriver, not allowing me to get a much leverage to loosen up the light from the ceiling. A metal putty knife, being sturdier, would have worked as well. Please let me know if that answers your question. Thanks for watching!😎👍
My recessed light falling off and hanging by the wire. Unfortunately, its about 30 feet high. How do I fix the issue?
That did not work 😢it's very tight!
Thanks, I was about to use a sledge hammer to get mine out....
Lol, glad you found the video helpful…and that we saved your ceiling! Lol thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
What’s the solution for something like this.. but 25-30 feet high? 😖
Bada boom Bada bing :)
Hope you liked the video. Thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
Is that a twelve foot latter. Jk Y’all keep bringing good content up on a regular
Lol, close enough, lol...thanks, we will keep them coming!😎👍
I’m doing something wrong. Mine wouldn’t move a muscle trying to rot it out
Mine had NO latches. Fell straight down and broke
Oh no, sorry to hear that. Was there a spot for latches and it just didn’t have any or that particular recessed light didn’t come with any? Also, like in the video, you still want to have both hands on the light until you pull it out of the ceiling just in case. Again, sorry to hear about that.

Mildly infuriating that the light isn’t centred inside the recess! 😅
Lol, agreed!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
Thanks! Now I can do this myself and not bother my son in law ;)
lol so glad this video helped, and thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
This video really help me 💯💪💪

The new bulbs don't last that long
Did, you get the ones I used in this video? I ask because I just had my first one go out, since I did this video and that was two years ago.
My recess light doesn't use a bulb.
Not just for guys.
Agreed 100%!😎👍💪
My recessed lights look nothing like this.
