EXTREME guitarist Nuno Bettencourt played his jaw-dropping solo from the band's new single "Rise" live for the first time on May 1 during the group's concert aboard the Monsters Of Rock cruise.
"Rise" was the first single to be shared from EXTREME's upcoming studio album, "Six", which is due on June 9 via earMUSIC.
Damn. When I first heard that muted run I thought it was creative use of delay. Then I saw the video. This man is a beast.
He uses delay from a boss gt 10 and a octaver that sits on his pedalboard. You can hear the delay when he strums the last two notes……

@@ascension6699 correct. He does have a delay. I wasn’t clear enough I guess. What I meant was using a delay to get the note repeats. But that’s not the case. He’s playing this run without any artificial help. Nuts

@@ascension6699 nope. If you are a guitar player, you should know how fretboards work. You can make same sounds if you spread your fingers 5 frets above and the open strings. Thats why you can hear octaves. Try playing frets 0 7 12 from low E to high E string.
There can be only one. There's a lot of people covering this solo, but no one can play like Nuno, he is so legendary.
He isn't even playing the end part like the album lol.

Been playing guitar since I was 10 (36 years ago!). Nuno's accuracy is something I've always been obsessed with.
Dude I'm not even a guitar player, I'm a drummer... and this frenzy over his solo on Rise is so fucking dope. It's SO cool to see the community of musicians blown away by an icon's talent. Super impressive.
I am a pianist, and I am not easily impressed. This dude was inspired by true masters like the Eternal Franz Liszt. Very high level of playing.
Just when you think you've heard it all on guitar, Nuno comes back and melts your face off.
Nuno is a phenomenal guitar player. He gets better with age. He will go down in history as one of the greatest guitar player to ever walk the plamet.
As also said by one of my other heroes/influences, Brian May. Specifically. In a critique of "Get The Funk Out". Legendary.
Nuno deserves this buzz he's getting .. he's always been highly talented .. good for him.

Musician friend of mine dragged me to a dive club in Kenmore square (boston) waaaay back in the day - to see a hair metal band called Sinful. Nuno on guitar - musta still been a teenager and was absolutely shredding in front of a stunned crowed of mostly musicians. His playing was innovative, rhythmic and incredibly precise even then. So happy for his success and to hear him still playing at his incomparable level.
Yep! He was 16 when he was in Sinful. And Gary was in The Dream. Then they joined forces and became 'Ex Dream'.. hence "EXTREME'. Watching them play live in Boston back then and listening to their demo everyday was ritual for my friends and I. That was the mid to late 80s. And he still looks the same and still shreds people's faces off haha! 😅🤘🏽

Look at the smoothness how Nuno lifts up the guitar on the leg and changes the pick up switch from bridge position to middle position before the second part of the solo, it’s just phenomenal !! Details of a very incredible professional musician! Bettencourt is the new God of guitar in 2023 !
Feeling so fortunate to have seen him live up close twice. A living legend and kind soul. Nuno is such an inspiration to guitarists and composers. He deserves it.
Nuno is like Jeff Beck in the sense that the guy just keeps getting better and better after all these years.

Nah... Nuno is one of one. He's not van halen, he's not beck, he is the one and only NUNO BETTENCOURT. With this solo he is (for me) now cemented himself as the GOAT.
@@sebg2086 nah, some just get stuck. Maybe most of them can get technically better, in the sense of playing faster or cleaner, but a lot of them also get less interesting.

The way he transitioned onto his knee was so classy and professional! He did it cause clearly it makes it more achievable an understandably so but to do it with such finesse is other worldly!

That solo is INSINE!!!!
What I love about Nuno's solos is that yes, they're shred solos, but they're so melodic - and he's not just playing fast to show off. He has a melody in his head and exceutes it perfectly.
Van Halen had the same idea. They both feel the music like Clapton does with the blues. So many guitarists just shred scales without thinking about how it sounds; so long as it's fast and clean. That's not music.

There was EVH…… and there is Nuno. Kindred virtuosos and innovators. When you hear them, you know them. There are so few who live in that stratosphere. Nuno is a ninja wizard guitar god. There is never a time Im not all, “holy crap….”
Wow this sounds super clean. Extremely well done from Mr Nuno. Very very awesome to see modern homage of the 80s hair metal infuences and blended with more modern techniques. Truly groundbreaking.
It's not how many notes you can squeeze in, but how beautiful those are that fill the void. Often, too much is just that.
Nuno’s right hand, with that impeccable palm muting, deserves its own separate induction into the RRHOF. Nobody does it better or with more groove.
