These comments are just sad. These kids get to eat and suddenly people stop caring about children.
I mean just holy balls. We are now having to pay for lunches and breakfast for every kid in Minnesota, not just the low income like before. So if you're parents make 250k, or 1Milllion, I get to pay for their kids' breakfast and lunches. I don't make that! What are you taking about? Actually go read it!
@@cluckieschickens YOU don’t have to pay. EVERYONE is paying. The total cost to you, an individual, is probably less than a dollar a year. But no, god forbid we pass policies to feed the hungry!
@@cluckieschickens I don’t think rich people are sending their kids to public schools
@@goobermcnoober8140 what have they done to deserve any of this
@@cluckieschickens Rich people aren’t sending their kids to public schools. Also wealthy parents can abuse and neglect their children too. Withholding food is a way people can manipulate and control others.
Now this is something I’d gladly have my tax money go to. I hope more states will adopt this
FOOL WALZ WANTS MN TO PAY FOR THE LUNCHES OF ILLEGAL ALIENS, BABY MAMAS WITH MULTIPLE KIDS FROM MULTIPLE FATHERS AND OTHER IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE. ALL OF WHOM HAS BIG SCREEN TVS IN THEIR HOMES!!
Why should rich kids have free lunch too? It makes no sense because poor peoples taxpayer dollars have to go to feed the rich kids too.
@@presdude good question. Actually, in order for a school to be qualified for the free lunch program they have to enroll in the national meals program. You need to have a certain income to qualify for it and chances are if you’re a rich kid who maybe goes to a private school you won’t be qualified. School districts with higher income areas probably won’t qualify for it, either. Hope this helps.
@@presdudeRich kids don’t buy lunch they have theirs packed.

Why should poor peoples taxpayer money pay for a wealthier child’s lunch
@@presdude Oh, spare me this BS argument. As long as all the poor kids are getting free lunch, who cares if some of the taxpayer money trickles to a few rich kids? Quit pretending you care about poor people, you're just trying to incite unnecessary resentment and division that would only end up hurting them.
@@admiralfrancis8424 there is already programs out there that feed the kids who are poor?
@@presdude There were no programs that gave kids free lunch. Poor parents had to take in thousands of dollars of debt to give their kids school lunch. Again, stop whining about free school lunch.
It's insane how people are trying to justify starving children in the richest country on earth. Sad.
Real sad and very selfish of them to do so.
This is leadership! Thank you.
So stunning, so brave.
Will somebody call up Ron DeSantis text him or send a email. Florida needs to start this as well. I live in Florida I feel like that's not fair to our state and our children. @Jack McHue Exactly. Woo hoo!
Why don't they call it what it is; Tax payers will pay for students meals forver bill. These kids will be paying for meals once they grow up in perpetuity bill.

I love the comments. People are so mad that kids get food. Stay angry, ghouls.
The children who need free lunches because of the income of their household already get free lunches. These households usually receive SNAP, for free groceries. No one is mad about feeding kids. It's the management of our tax dollars that's at question here.........

Kids need food clothing and shelter. Next we should make sure that no child has clothing insecurity. The school should provide clothing to all children.
Contrary to left-wing ideology, the end ('free' school lunches) doesn't justify the means (taxpayer funded)
@@wiseup2517 " the end ('free' school lunches) doesn't justify the means (taxpayer funded)"
This particular end does indeed justify these particular means. It's better to feed every kid than to let them starve. Cry me a river.
Let's see if the test scores move up to 95% where they should be now that they will be fed. Not by lowering the bar for achievement. If not, there should be a supper meal and snack at bedtime for all. What about the vitamin shot before school and after school for all.
Only thing going up is our taxes.

“Impeach walz!” For what? For passing a bill? He’s broken absolutely no laws.
Yeah, that’s the point: the government using tax money to improve things for the people is exactly what we should want.
@@Klako-ls6yt and how does this benefit the people who are actually paying the taxes? remember, the children aren't paying anything
@@Omegon8536 I don’t care if the kids don’t pay anything. I said our taxes should go to improve life for the people as a whole, not just taxpayers. And, even then, it benefits everybody. Proper nourishment improves public health, and would improve school performance as hungry kids can’t be fully engaged in their studies. Taxes do a lot more good for us feeding schoolchildren than they do in funding a lot of things the government currently funds.

You’re right. And that’s why it’s an equally distributed tax. The two year budget estimation to fill the gap is $388 million over two years. Over a population of 5.7 million Minnesotans, that leaves each person with a whopping $34/year committment (or ~$2.83 per month). Seems like a small price to pay to feed our future generations and boost education.

What you just did was math congratulations
That's how socialism works..
Law is different every decade.
@@Tom-cz9op Minnesota is a socialist lite state. Let's go!!!!!
If your kids went to public schools, then parents like mine paid for your kids education while simultaneously paying tuition for their own kids to go to private school, and now I pay for kids to go to school when I don't have any kids of my own. Welcome to taxation. Paying for shit you may not use personally is kind of how it all works.
So do kids attending private schools also get free lunches? If not, wouldn't that be discrimination?
"If not, wouldn't that be discrimination?"
No, because they are PRIVATE schools.
@@jpl3026 my kids attended private schools because we sacrificed and went without, they sure didn’t turn out spoiled. Why not give all parents the choice for their kids to do the same?
@@jpl3026 This bill doesn't address school choice but let's be honest, it's a "taxpayer funded lunch program for PUBLIC education". Plenty of rich people send their kids to public schools, now they get funded even more by people who sacrfice and home school or send their kids to a private school who also pay property taxes which fund public schools, they pay twice. If this was a fair bill, the Governor would provide a credit for these families to fight food inflation so ALL were being treated equally. No I don't see private school kids as spoiled or as entitled as the ones asking for loan forgiveness, my kids actually paid off their student debts. This all about the "entitlement" society.
@@notanomad9320 " Plenty of rich people send their kids to public schools, "
How many of them and how rich? An even more important question is how many rich people compared to poor people go to public school?
"now they get funded even more by people who sacrfice and home school or send their kids to a private school who also pay property taxes which fund public schools, they pay twice. "
The fact that you are more concerned about a few rich kids getting free lunch than about a great chunk of poor kids who won't starve at school anymore says a lot about your priorities and your character. So what if the benefits of a universal free lunch trickle to a few rich kids? As long as no child is starving in school anymore, why the hell does it matter?
"No I don't see private school kids as spoiled or as entitled as the ones asking for loan forgiveness"
1. The private school kids typically rely on their parents money to pay for college, of course they don't typically ask for student loan forgiveness.
2. So what are college kids supposed to do? Face the existential dread of crushing debt for the rest of their lives?
" my kids actually paid off their student debts"
Newsflash, not everyone lives under the same set of circumstances as you. Why is it so hard for you conservatives to understand that? You don't know other people's lives.
"This all about the "entitlement" society."
Well, a functioning society does require to give its members certain entitlements, like human rights for example, otherwise there wouldn't be a society. And some people would argue that free education is a human right, considering that education is a basic requirement to be a productive member of society.
@@admiralfrancis8424 doesn't matter how many people send their kids to public schools anymore then private schools, it's a pointless argument.
There are already programs we've had for years that fund school lunches for kids from families that fall below a certain income. No one I know is against that. But this whole argument might not matter from what I can find online is that ALL schools both Public and Private enrolled in the National School Lunch Program could not charge for breakfast or Lunch each day. So it's a bit hypocritical for everyone arguing against including private schools in the lunch program, kind of shows you the character of these individuals.
As far as student debt goes, who's name is on the loan? Mine, yours or maybe the person who signed the papers? How far do you want to start bailing people out? How about their house payment, car payment or Credit Cards? How about the people that struggled for years to pay theirs and then someone else feels entitled to have the tax payer pick up part of the tab. Talk about promoting irresponsible behavior. How many asking for student debt bailouts are willing to have their wages garnished to pay back the taxpayer if they land a job that pays well because of the education they got?
And lastly, while education is a positive, I've never seen it as a Human Right.
More welfare and dependency on the government. That’s what dems want. Dependency.
Please the top states that collect welfare are red states, it's the blue states that help fund them. I guess your welcome
And Republicans want starving kids.
@@dandychiggins6802 It's a shame you think we don't CARE about another person's kid. They don't ask why they can't get food when they're hungry. I pay money for my coworkers lunch all the time. Never ask for anything in return. This is the CHRISTIAN thing to do. Why do you care about that? I don't and yes I DO live in MN too. Stop being a hypocrite.
LOL, Reaganomics created dependency...
The left wants me to buy lunches for kids i don't know, which would be fine, if they'd agree to not use abortion as birth control.
Yes. This bill was specifically written to target RUclips commenter The End, who shall now be forced to personally pay for every school lunch ever. Because we, the evil democrats, hate that guy.
This is bill stating that a portion of the state government’s funds will go towards school lunches. How does the government make money? Through taxes! This bill will probably only increase the yearly tax rate by a couple cents, if at all.
@@goobermcnoober8140 There is an 18billion dollar surplus, of which zero will come back to us, and all these things he's throwing the money at will need yearly continued support, this increasing taxes in one of the most heavily taxed states in the US already.
