As a kid watching the allstar game was like watching a playoff game and now it’s like watching Sesame Street. I don’t know how this promotes the game in any way.

Even 10-15 years ago the Skills Competition was actually about skills like puck handling/saucer passes/tricks and Michigan-style goals during the Breakaway Challenge. Now (other than accuracy shooting and the hardest shot - which is even stripped down from what it used to be with players now only taking two shots total) the whole Skills Competition is just a clown show of kids, goofy props, and women’s players.
The All Star game is more about promoting the game to the kids now and avoiding anything serious that could cause injury to the multi-million dollar players. I can't stand it this way myself but a couple kids walking by this morning were loudly talking about it and seemed quite hyped by it so it seems to be working somewhat at least.
