So underrated. If you have ever watched Gene's interviews, he talks about how almost all of these jail scenes like this were ad libs. He said that him and Richard were never really close. Richard had his drug friends and he said he chose not to be a part of that, but when they were on the set he said the magic kicked in. Gene said that it was just one of those things. He hardly knew him but they just clicked. After shooting was over, Richard would go off and not show up for several days to shoot. This was the best (IMO) comedic duo of all time. Farley and Spade had that magic as well.
...the moment he swatted an imaginary fly and hit another inmate's big bald dome...that's when the gravity of his circumstances should have sunk into his head ...🤔😃😅😎
i was about 6 or 7 when this came out. my mom always laughed so hard at this movie. i say...you know you're getting old when you start laughing at the things your parents laughed at. i appreciate this movie so much more i thin the extra at 2:24 wanted to laugh
Gene later explained the at he and Richard worked was: Richard would say his lines, then sometimes go off script. Then, gene would react naturally and not think about what to say or think about something funnier to say. Then they would go back and forth from the written lines to improv. 4 movies together, you can see this method paid off; their buddy chemistry was off the charts
As a kid I never realized he was doing Buster Keaton, dancing in front of the cop, and doing Curly, needing a "special pill" to calm down like Curly needing a "special cheese" to calm down. They're paying tribute with this movie and I never realized it.
Young Frankenstein and Stir Crazy were the first films I ever received on VHS when I was ten! I asked for them both for my 10th birthday from my mum and dad. Gene Wilder was and still is my favourite actor. Absolute genius and such a nice guy that was too pure for Hollywood. Wilders reaction when they are sentenced absolutely kills me every time! “Wha.... wha.... wha.... no no no no no no no no no!”
My parents watched this movie while my brother and I saw Flash Gordon at the theaters. I didn't see stir crazy until it first went on HBO back in the day.
I love this movie stir crazy I sent it so many times and I never get tired of seeing it Richard Pride Gene Wilder are the most funniest guys together it's a really good movie .😎😎😄🙄
Wish they would of acted together in the movie "Blazing Saddles" it's funny but with Wilder&Pride would of been hilarious😃🤣😂😁😀😆😅😄RIP🕊🕊 still enjoy watching both of you acting 🙏🏻💙💚💖🖤💜💛
The look on Pryors face when Wilder started acting crazy, was so" wtf is wrong with you?"genuine,it was priceless,Laughed when I first saw it,laughed when I just watched it.Classic gold.
Just before they filmed this scene that had little to no stage direction, director Sidney Poitier pulled them to one side, told them they had 3 cameras set in place and then said the words 'just fly!' Just fly! And from that they gave us this incredible scene of improvisation! What a genius the pair were!!! Xx
I'm listening to the audio book "Kiss Me Like a Stranger" and getting to watch pieces of these iconic scenes as Gene Wilder reads about the chemistry between himself and Pryor is pure magic! Nobody else could have made this movie funnier than these two masterclasses of comedy!
Lmao are you serious? It’s in the title , the movie is called stir crazy, one of best movies ever made, you will enjoy it from start to finish, watched it so many as a kid really great movie
@@MALIRIPPA I didn't express myself clearly. I knew the title. It was just so funny that I was like what do I watch here. I've watched it since I wrote the last comment. I agree with you. It's a great movie. Hilarious as hell lol.
So much of the hilarity that's in this movie comes across as if Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder were just acting naturally, as if they were just going with the flow. It doesn't look forced... just real smooth, daddy! Real smooth! That's what made this movie a major hit, back in the day. The movie theaters and any company like Netflix, or whatever, needs to do a special re-release of this movie. It's a Classic's Classic!!!
One best comedy films ever , Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor awesome together , trust many others still to this day have used ideas from this genius humour
THE WAY HE TURNED HIM AROUND AND SHOVED HIM WITHOUT EVEN REALLY LOOKING AT HIM THEN REFLEX HITTING HIM WITH THE BILLY CLUB IN THE STOMACH WAS FREAKIN HILARIOUS!! YOU DON'T GET COMEDY LIKE THAT ANYMORE!! LMFAO!!
Unbelievably funny movie😂 Richard Pryor once said in 1 of his stand ups " When I die I don't want people to cry. I want people to tell lies on me and laugh about me" If I'm lying I got it from Rich (r.i.p. to 2 great comedic legends) 💪🏿👑🏹 🖤 ❤
I’m tellin u right now, when Pryor let it get quiet and started screamin, the theater was LAUGHIN! I’ll NEVER 4 get being a small child and laughin my butt off.
When you laugh at a scene which is mins away tells you it's a great film duos are fantastic let's talk laurel and hardy abbot and Costello brilliant I think these two earned the Wright to stand on the shoulder of giants

dannyd1572 how can anyone say either of these great superstars or this film is UR ?
...the moment he swatted an imaginary fly and hit another inmate's big bald dome...that's when the gravity of his circumstances should have sunk into his head ...🤔😃😅😎
You can tell it was ad-libbed playing the guards don't do anything, lol. The actors have no idea what to do in response.
@@jamesboulger8705 Good point.
Not under rated , it one best n watched comedies in world lol
The smile on Richard Pryor face just before gene goes crazy. 😂. That is the hidden gem of this scene
pure comedic genius, the alchemy between Pryor and Wilder oozes from the scene
Pryor oozed a lot of alchemy.
They were a right proper alchemist they were
see no evil hear no evil is up their in my top 5

They say this was a massive hit back in 1980. Two legends no longer with us
it made over 100 million. that was back in the day when 100 million dollars was considered to be a lot of money
It was. I saw it in the theater when I was 10. Still one of the best comedies out there.
Gary York I miss the 80s

@D B Then why come on here and watch it ? Most people don't bother watching clips from movies they don't like
Richard and Gene together were pure gold.
Kills me every time. The amount of time that passes in this movie from conviction to this point makes this scence hysterical

Lots of so called comedy films since but few will ever match this. I laughed so much I couldn’t breathe

I wonder how many times they had to do this scene without breaking character!! Love it!!
I. Sure it would have to be more than one take just because of them breaking character
Just before they filmed this scene that had little to no stage direction, director Sidney Poitier pulled them to one side, told them they had 3 cameras set in place and then said the words 'just fly!'

It's Stir Crazy.. one of the most funniest movies you'll ever see.

Man these two what the ultimate chemistry for comedy. Up there with Tom and Hardy. Such a shame they only made a few movies.
Tom and Hardy ? The great English dramatic duo ? I always thought they were two parts of the same person.
Kind of like Frank and Costello.
Laurel and Hardy?
The guards had the hardest job........trying to keep a straight face! That's Zen!
I worked in the Colorado prison system for 22 years....this is priceless.

I bout died when gene hugged the guard
Even as a 9 year old when I saw this in the theatre, I remember laughing so hard at Gene Wilder dancing and spitting on the guard.
