    I bought the Skymaster and due to pandemic it took a year to receive it. The watch is extremely accurate. Two weeks on the wrist and the time is perfect. It is also beautiful and well made. I would recommend it.

    I spent 10 years teaching business English for companies in Sweden, and I have to say your vocabulary and delivery are more than a credit to you.

    Great video. I would always rather buy the unserviced watch if it is 250 Euros cheaper (unless the service is from an authorised service center from the brand), because then you can choose the watchmaker that services the watch yourself (I personally prefer a unserviced watch that needs a service to a watch that has been poorly serviced), or you can stretch the service interval a bit if the watch runs fine. Viele Grüße aus dem Erzgebirge nach Hamburg.:)

    A while ago I looked at replacing an ETA movement which was possible but expensive. I investigated Sellita instead as they are supposedly a clone and cheaper. I'm sure this is the main reason ETA movements are rare in micro brand watches. Keep up the great work!

    An excellent video Tim. That's a very stylish watch- an excellent argument for plexi over sapphire. You were right to pair it with a leather strap, it picks up the dial. One thing though - I doubt the bezel is intended to track a second timezone. 12 hour bezels are often added to stopwatches so that elapsed time can be tracked past 30 or 60 minutes - align the pip with the hour hand at the start of timing and read elapsed hours off the bezel.
    I have to ask, is there a recording somewhere of you duetting with a violinist? "I got rhythm" perhaps?

      Talking of watch designing if I were designing this one I would only marry that bracelet and case to that dial if I wanted it to closely resemble a Speedmaster. I think watch designers should have a little more pride in their craft.

    Do not buy the Skymaster. Don't get me wrong, it's a good looking watch, but it seems like they only sell it as a pre-order item, and according to their terms and conditions they don't refund pre-orders. Talking from experience, as they took 14 months to deliver my purchase and only after several sour emails and arguments. So, if your watch comes defective and you want your money back, they won't refund you. You will be forced to keep the watch and experience months of delays with their repair service. Is like if they know that the movements or parts will fail at some point, but still want to sell it anyway.
    Also, the rotor that comes in the actual production model is not the same as in the model shown in the video, with I assume is a prototype. The actual rotor is just plain, not custom, and with a simple black engraving that reads Maen in a font that looks like out of a word document. Not something you would expect in a watch that costs almost 1K.
    As the host mentions in the video, the lugs are really sharp. One needs to be careful with those, as they can even harm your skin or scratch you stuff.

    The Maen Skymaster really seems awesome, and the lugs even remind me a little bit of a Universal Geneve Polerouter. I especially like the size, but, in my opinion the movement is quite problematic. The ETA 2894-2 is a 2892(which is nice) with a chrono module made by ETA. The issue is, the module is supposedly unserviceable (or at the very least not made to be serviced - my watchmaker says he can service it, but it's a pain and if anything breaks he had to replace the whole module), and the way Swatch services them is by servicing the base movement and using a new module. It might not seem like a big deal, but I think it's very much against the whole mechanical watch ethos.

    • @benjaminverpoort
      @benjaminverpoort 3 года назад

      I confirm the part on being unserviceable, that is what my watchmaker says too. That is why I never bought a Tudor Montecarlo.

      I have, and use quite frequently, an Omega Speedmaster Reduced since 2001. It’s been serviced two times and still going strongly. The movement being unserviceable is a false myth, there’s even a video on RUclips of a watchmaker doing it without problems. And try finding a slimmer automatic chronograph with an integrated calibre.

    A warning at anyone looking at the Maen Skymaster, preordering with them was the worst customer experience of my life, no watch for 11 months and they held onto my money despite me cancelling my preorder 8 months before because they couldn't refund me until the watch was ready. You'll see a lot of similar comments online. Stay away from this brand.

    • @justbob7828
      @justbob7828 3 года назад +3

      Same, i literally spent 18 months without my money/watch. I pre ordered on September 2019 and it arrived until November 2020. The watch failed, upon literally the third time of engaging the chrono, the seconds hand got bent when it snapped back to 12:00. Lesson learned, I’m never buying micro nor at pre order again.

    • @pcolmenaresg
      @pcolmenaresg 3 года назад +2

      I also had a very bitter experience with them, it took 14 months to receive the watch, and despite several requests for a refund, they refused to do so with the excuse they can't refund pre-orders. At some point they say that model brought them too many problems with customers so they wouldn't do it again, and yet they just offered a new batch of Skymaster for pre-order! Now it seems to me that they are not completely honest and use sneaky ways to sell a (possibly flawed) product without offering the basic right to return an item if you are not satisfied with it. The watch itself works ok, without problems or bending hand, but after that experience I don't even wear it, I still have it in the box. I will probably just sell it soon.

    Hrm, I might be wrong (which is likely) but it was my understanding that ETA was limited movements to the large companies, not the small ones, with the threshold based on the number of units they ship out per year.
