You don't need to worry too much about gear as a beginner. just get any guitar you like and start playing.
But if you want to mimic the math rock sound as much as possible then yeah get a tele

get a telecaster Squier Bullet limited edition if you're on a budget. I have a $1000 Charvel pro mod DK 24 and i play my $160(ish) Tele more than the Charvel..
Not a knock on the Charvel, I'm still kinda scared to touch it lol
