  • In this video I will show you how to do a tire rotation on a Tesla Model 3. Anyone with the right tools can rotate your tires in less an hour. Tesla offers tire rotation as a mobile service which can cost about $50.
    Rotating your tires every 6,250 miles or 10,000 kilometers helps with even tire wear and can make your tires last longer. For this reason, I do my rotation every 5,000 kilometers.

    I rotate my tires about 3 or 4 times a year and save myself about $200. this out ways the cost of the tools. You will need a floor jack, tesla jack pad, 21mm socket, breaker bar and a torque wrench to do a tire rotation. Most of these can be purchased a your local auto parts store. You can purchase the jack pad directly from Tesla or Amazon. One of the reasons I do my own tire rotation is it gives me a chance to inspect the brakes and suspension and to clean wheels and rims.

    You definitely should have axle stand under the front jack point very silly just with jack with both wheels off.

    Yeah. Like one person said, get a jack stand. That's a good safety product to have for such a heavy car and with the batteries underneath the body of the car.
    My only other suggestion is to get a separate brush since one brush you're using a cleaner and water and the other brush you want to keep dry and only use fir the oil (tire shine) you're applying.
    Instead of wooden black to roll the car on, even though there isn't much ring with that if that's all you have, it might be better to buy the pads that are made for that. I know what they looking but can't remember what they're called.
    Another piece of advice to anyone wanting to do this is if the EV has an emergency brake then use it. But I'm not it's necessary. If you're doing this on an ICE car then definitely use the emergency brake. Again, I'm not sure it's necessary but better safe than not. And if you're going to do this then depending on your driving I'd say time this for the spring or summer when it's more comfortable to work outside if you don't have a moderate temperature garage to work in or if you primarily park outside and don't have access to a garage or if you need more space than your standard home garage.

      @BCTeslaGuy  2 года назад +2

      Next time I will be using jack stands for sure. I did use the correct Tesla jack pads. I picked up a new low jack so I won't have to drive up on blocks to get my old jack under the car. I agree that you should set the emergency brake. M3 has electronic emergency brakes and is set by double-clicking the park button. Will take your suggestion on separate brushes too. Thanks so much

      That is correct. That is what Tesla does when they rotate tires.

  • @xbrizzcakez
    @xbrizzcakez Год назад +1

    Nice video, the cleaning was a nice touch, overlooked by most people. One question is that the tires appear to be non-directional on Tesla`s but no one rotates them in what I feel is the correct pattern. Everyone does front to back back to front same side of car. I myself install the fronts to the rear same side and then crisscross the rears to the front opposite sides. Only directional tires stay on the same side of car. Do you rotate same side because it is easier?

    • @BCTeslaGuy
      @BCTeslaGuy  Год назад +2

      I agree totally that you should rotate your tires for RWD or AWD from rear to front and crisscross them. Tesla only does same side rotations because it's easier. I went to a used tire shop and bought a used tire on a rim with the correct wheel pattern 5x4.5 to show everyone the correct and easiest way to rotate tires. Pattern was correct but the shape of the rim wouldn't allow me to get it to fit. Once I get the correct one, I will do a video on it. Because Tesla requires the use of pucks to protect the battery and lifting my car and placing a jack stand under one side, then lifting the other feels really unsafe to me. I would prefer the tire swap method. Please be sure to check back when I make that video. thanks for watching

  • @ronaldboykin9755
    @ronaldboykin9755 Месяц назад +1

    He didn’t actually show the tire rotation! I assume he reversed the tires, front to rear and rear to front but that not the only way to rotate tires! Usually you criss cross the front to rear and rear to front!

    • @BCTeslaGuy
      @BCTeslaGuy  Месяц назад +1

      front to back is what Tesla does. I agree there are other patterns to rotate. I personally like criss-cross but it's hard to do with only one jack . Can be done with a spare tire. thanks for watching

    Can you just use the impact wrench to break the lugs or is that too risky?

    • @BCTeslaGuy
      @BCTeslaGuy  2 года назад +1

      sure. The lugs are steel lugs. You just need a impact strong enough. You should use a torque wrench to tighten lugs to Tesla's specifications.

    What tire rotation pattern do you use?

    • @BCTeslaGuy
      @BCTeslaGuy  Год назад +3

      Tesla does front to back when they are the same size. I'm old school and like the criss-cross front to back method. A little hard to do with only 1 jack. I'm heading to a used tire shop today to see what the price is for a tire on rim with 5-4.5" pattern so I can take the first tire off and move them. Takes a bit longer, but I think its better than just front to back on the same side. Would you be interested in seeing me to a rotation using a spare tire?
