started watching, couldn't stop.... somehow therapeutic!
@7:13 to 7:22, but especially at 7:13 thanks soooo much for showing the details of what you did there. I have subscribed. Even the part where you used the drill, much respect for showing that part as well.
No problems. Thanks for the shoutout. Regarding the drill... this step isn't needed if you use a stitching chisel with larger tines. Mine isn't big enough to easily pass the leather needle through. A lesson I had to learn the hard way regarding buying quality tools. Good luck with your own projects! Thanks again for commenting.
@UrbanSelfSufficiency Hey :), you're welcome. The drill was a big deal for me, because I started working with Real and Faux leather a few months ago, and I've been wanting to work with a heavier leather like yours in your video, but I can't afford the leather sewing machine right now. I already have a drill with lots of bits so ive envisioned that i could pull it off. I can't remember the ounce, but I use a softer Genuine leather for my crafting, and the machine I use is, Brother LB7950, and I'm able to use leather needles with it. I had to slow down your video at 0.5 speed and watch it over and over and over again, and I was like 🤔 woah....okay! It's the "little tricks of the trade", that few people will show you or ya learn after some time of experience. And that may take some years. So, I Really Appreciate you man, and the educational content you post. Much Respect.
Thanks for sharing I really like how you used electric drill for those holes, great skill!
Thank you for the kind words 😁
The way all those knocking and drilling noises blend together in a nice whirl when you have it sped up is strangely satisfying. Oh, and great book cover you made.
Thank you. Yes, there's something quite therapeutic about it.
Wow! Amazing craftmanship!
Thank you.
Thank you! That looks doable for me! I want to make something like this to cover a plastic binder to make it look nicer. Thanks again!
Beautiful work.
Thank you very much!
Thank you this is just what I needed. I hope I can execute.
Yas i love the ideas u have
Thanks Bryan.
Delightful!!!!!!!
Wow, nice one! I'm from Australia too
Cheers
Great video
Wow, thank you!
Great video, I love the way you sped up the repetitive parts. I'd like to know where you purchase all the materials and tools.
Thank you.
I buy all my supplies from Crispen Leather Supplies in Brisbane. They do online and phone orders. You can also try Tandy Leather Supplies from the states. They order online, too.
Very cool!! You have amazing patience!!! 👍🏼👍🏼 I could never get through a project like that I don’t think but it sure is nice when you get done. Awesome work 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you.
New subscriber here. It’s relaxing and fascinating just to watch you work. Appreciate the links but I will never be skilled enough to make this beautiful book cover ☹️. You sound Australian - do you sell your products in Australia. If so where?
Thank you for the kind words.
I am Australian, but I don't sell anything; it's just a hobby.
Good job but you can add space for pen or a pencil
hi! planning to work on a camera half case with similar thickness leather. do you know what size chisel and thread you used for this project? cheers
Does this work for hard bond books, cause have sketch pad, that’s has a hard cover?
your fast!
where are the typed on screen instruction? What are the names of tools your using, and how to measure. Speed is OK other wise it may get borrowing.
I think I never looked at you on my channel
What us the material that you used and where do we get it
Most of what I use can be bought from Tandy Leather online.
List and links in the description.
Stitching all around would have made a vast difference, aesthetics are everything in leatherwork. Otherwise a nice job.
To was to fast for me to learn the stitching. Needed about five stitching would have been enough. Also would have looked better if stitching went all the way around outside. In my opinion only.
Thanks for watching and your feedback.
I appreciate that you've been constructive in your criticism, rather than being mean. Thank you.
I watched it because of the color sad to see that it was just black in the end
Thanks for the feedback! I haven't looked at this thumbnail in a long time and didn't realised how different the colour is than the project.
I'll see if I can take a new photo of it and make a new thumbnail that better represents the true colour. Sorry for misleading you 😢. I'll do better.
This feels like totally unfinished project. You made the whole outside edge with that sticth groove but didnt stitch it also the book holding flaps had a side that you did the groove but not stitch, or did I miss it? Also why didn't you use any polish on top of the dye to give a nice sheen?
Everything you've said is "unfinished" are design decisions that perhaps you would like to see. But as far as a functional book cover, it is finished.
I don't like "shiny" covers; I much prefer the matte finish. The groove around the top and bottom edges left "unstitched", has no functional purpose; I just like the look of the line left behind. After some time, the line has darkened with the natural patina of use, and it looks great. It's a lot darker than when it was new and has a subtle accent compared to the darker colour of the leather. The same goes for the line left inside the book on the sleeves.
Like I said... it's not unfinished, they're design choices that I prefer. If you make one, you could make it in a design that you like yourself, and I've shown you a simple way to achieve that for yourself. I hope you find the time to have a go yourself.
I learn today: they sell black gloves
Hey, yeah, they're Black Nitrile Gloves; they are stronger than the normal gloves and are better for handling chemicals. :)
Too fast
I hear that too often
Do not go so fast I don't like it when people do that!!!
Ok. I'll take your comment into consideration; thanks for the feedback! Take care of yourself, and thanks for taking the time to watch and chat on my channel. I appreciate that.
