Japanese here. I would like to talk about why this game, Assassin's Creed Shadows, is under fire and why it is disliked by Japanese people, as much as I know. The first reason for backlash is that "even though the story is set in Japan, the main character is not Japanese." Yes, there is Naoe. But Naoe is not what the fans wanted. The Assassin's Creed series has traditionally been set in a specific region, where the player becomes a local and experiences the world of that time. Fans were also attracted to this aspect of Assassin's Creed and enjoyed the game. There is no doubt that this style of playing as a local is what sets the Assassin's Creed series apart from other games. However, in Assassin's Creed Shadows, a black person was chosen as the main character, even though the setting is Japan. As soon as the promotional video was released, people started complaining, "Why is the main character a black samurai instead of a Japanese one?" That's right. It's natural for fans to think, "If the setting is Japan, I want to play as a Japanese. Especially a Ninja." I have to say that this has disappointed the fans. Game creators need to be more sensitive to the fan psychology. Also, some people say, "It's just a game, so it's fine if Yasuke is the main character," but this misses the point. If Yasuke was the main character in a new IP, no one would get angry. The game drew criticism because it is set in Japan, but Yasuke is the main character. UBISOFT failed to understand the fan psychology, destroyed the tradition, and made a huge mistake. The second reason for backlash is that it is not faithful to historical facts. Yes, of course no one expects historical accuracy from fiction. No one is talking about that. There is an enough reason for the backlash. That is, Ubisoft itself has stated that it is "faithfully depicting the events of the time." This was stated in an interview published on Xbox Wire Japan on the day the Assassin's Creed Shadows PV was released. The problem with this is that even if the depiction in the game differs from historical fact, it may be perceived by the player as historical fact. This is extremely worrying for the people of the country where the game is set. This attitude of the staff, which could lead people to believe that a work that is not true is true, is problematic. This is the point where Japanese people have issues with the accuracy of this game. Japanese people hate their history being distorted. If the work was clearly fictional from the start, there would be no criticism. However, the Assassin's Creed staff abandoned the pretense of fantasy even though it is a work of fiction. That's why they were criticized. Also, in terms of accuracy, it is incorrect in that the main character, Yasuke, is a samurai. Yasuke is not a samurai. The claim that Yasuke is a samurai is clearly wrong. He is only recorded as a servant of Oda Nobunaga, and there is no evidence that he was a samurai. The information has been exaggerated and the misconception that Yasuke is a samurai has spread, and many people are still mistaken. The gift Yasuke received was a dagger, not a katana. Yasuke is only mentioned in a few lines in historical documents, and frankly speaking, he is not a person of any historical importance. In the first place, if he was a samurai, he would have had a family name other than just "Yasuke." What does it mean that he doesn't even have a last name? Yes, he wasn't a samurai. So, why did UBISOFT think Yasuke was a samurai? I think it was because a man named Thomas Lockley published a book. He is an associate professor at Nihon University. And in 2019 he wrote a book that is 1% fact and 99% fiction. In that part of the fiction as novel, he portrayed Yasuke as a black samurai, even though in fact Yasuke was not a samurai. The book sold very well in the United States, and it was released in Biography & Autobiography category. And the title of the book clearly states "Black Samurai" and even says "True Story." Even though that's not true. For this reason, the image of Yasuke as a samurai has been imprinted on people overseas, and I think UBISOFT probably believed his book. This is a complete distortion of another country's history. UBISOFT should have done more research instead of just reading Lockley's book. But, as I will also mention in the third reason, it is clear that they did not properly research Japanese materials because they have no respect for Japan. UBISOFT created a game based on inaccurate information and then promoted it as if it were fact, which ultimately angered the Japanese people. The third reason for backlash is that "UBISOFT's repeated discriminatory attitude towards Japan is apparent." This is currently increasing with each passing day. For example, in an interview with the creators in Famitsu published on the same day as the PV, the article said: "We chose a samurai who could become a part of our eyes as non-Japanese people." Isn't this racism against Japanese people? So, let's say you had a game set in Africa, and you replaced the Japanese characters with Africans, and the main character was a white person. What do you think would happen? UBISOFT will be under fire all over the world for being a discriminatory company. However, for some reason, it seemed like it was okay to do this to Japanese people, so this racism idea was published as is, and it did not cause a huge outrage by non-Japanese people. On the contrary, UBISOFT's defenders have accused the Japanese who criticized this of being racists. Fans of the assailant began attacking the victim. In the end, this statement received a lot of backlash after it was posted and was then silently deleted, but even just looking at this one point, it is clear that UBISOFT has no respect for Japanese people. Unfortunately, there are other instances of this lack of consideration for Japanese people, or, to be frank, discrimination against Japanese people. Just recently, an incident was discovered in which a flag design copyrighted by a Japanese person was used as concept art of Assassin's Creed Shadows. And again, after the issue came to light and caused a stir online, they quietly deleted the relevant part. UBISOFT should have reflected on their actions and apologized, but instead of apologizing, the CEO gave the order to attack in anger, saying, "We strongly condemn those who attack us. We call on our players to do the same." I was shocked at the company's sloppy attitude. From these attitude, Japanese people can only think that they didn't set the game in Japan because they love Japan, but rather that they just happened to choose Japan as a convenient place to score politically correct points. This seems like a scheme in which white people are using Japan to atone for their sins against black people, and I find it very grotesque, don't you think? UBISOFT has made so many mistakes that I'll list some others here. The 4 seasons are all messed up, tatami mats are square, Nobunaga is made to sit between wooden boards, a scroll is written vertically, a family crest on a flag is wrong, a family crest on an armor is upside down, Japanese people are made to bow every time Yasuke passes by, Yasuke beats a Japanese person to death, they said "beheadings were commonplace in this era", they said "we filled a gap in history with our story", Chinese subtitles on videos aimed at Japan, kanji characters are created that don't exist, "Masayasu" is written in kanji but they read it as "Nagato", a tiger rope is wrapped around a tree, there is a monkey that doesn't exist in Japan, photos from the Meiji and Taisho periods are plagiarized for concept art, that concept art is planned to be sold in a box, Buddha statues from China are reversed and then plagiarized, Japanese characters in the collector's edition bonus is reversed, there are guardrails on a path of the concept art, etc. All of these are wrong. There are some mistakes in the depiction of Japan in other games as well, but if the respect is shown, it is not a big deal. Japanese people understand that much. However, UBISOFT has no respect for Japan. I'm sure there will be more and more mistakes every time new information is released. This is all due to a lack of respect for Japan, and as a Japanese person, I have no choice but to protest against this. Each of these reasons for backlash would be enough on its own, but Assassin's Creed Shadows has caused a huge backlash by compounding them. UBISOFT had betrayed the expectations of its fans by breaking tradition, lied and distorted Japanese history, and all of the problems are due to racism thoughts towards Japanese people. There's no way that such a game won't be criticized. Do we need to be considerate towards them just because they're a huge company? No matter how big a company is, if they're doing something wrong, we have to say NO. I think this is a natural thing to do as a consumer. If we remain silent in the face of lies, it will become the truth. That's why Japanese people support the petition.

In fact, there is no clear record of Yasuke's specific role in the story. Only a few documents have been written about him in Japanese, and even if they were written out in full, they would probably only be about two pages long. There is not a single record of him going to the battlefield and fighting. Nobunaga was surprised by Yasuke's dark skin. Nobunaga gave Yasuke a dagger, wages, and a place to live (Yasuke was given a dagger that commoners could wear without issue, but there are no records of him being given the Japanese swords or wakizashi that samurai were allowed to wear). This is about all we know. The word "侍/さむらい(samurai)" is derived from the ancient Japanese word "さぶらう(saburau)," which means to serve by the side of a noble. It can be seen from the fact that the word "samurai" is included in the word for the office of one who serves a superior, as in "侍従(attendant)" or "侍女(lady attendant)". The word originated around the Heian period (794-1185) and was first used for those who served the emperor, the imperial family, and the nobility. The term was transformed to refer to those in the ruling class who served those in high places, but the essence of the term remained the same. They eventually came to have their own power and military might, and began to fight for control of the whole of Japan. During the Warring States period, the period in which the ACS takes place, the Emperor's rule was only nominal. The samurai (大名(daimyo), meaning those who controlled many feudal lands) who held power in various regions began to fight to gain real control, but they remained vassals of the Emperor, who was the nominal ruler of Japan. Hence, they were still called samurai. Those who served such lords were also called samurai. They had clans, provided for their families, ruled their domains, collected taxes, provided troops, and supported their lords in battle. There is no record of Yasuke being given permission to have a clan. In contrast, the Bushi(武士) were warriors, so to speak. The word "武(bu)" refers to the use of a spear to subdue conflict. The word "士(shi)" refers to a person engaged in a profession. In other words, the word "Bushi" means a warrior. Samurai were also Bushi because they had influence through their military prowess. But Bushi does not necessarily mean that one was a samurai. Samurai were people in the ruling class of samurai society. And there is no record of Yasuke as a vassal of the Oda family in any of the official records of the Oda family. There is not a single record that explains his position under Nobunaga. Moreover, if he was indeed a samurai, he would have either fought to the last as a shield when Nobunaga committed suicide in the Honnoji Incident, and died in battle, or he would have killed himself as well, regretting his failure to protect his lord. The 18-year-old Mori Ranmaru, who served Nobunaga, fought to the last and died. Learning of the rebellion later and realizing that they could not participate in the battle to protect their lord, several of the samurai cut their own throats. Yasuke, however, laid down his arms and surrendered. Moreover, he did not return to the Oda family, even though it was still in existence. For these reasons, it is impossible for Yasuke to have been a samurai.

Then using racial tropes like hip hop for the black guy. But what’s worse is using Chinese characters and confidently displaying them over title slides in promotional materials instead of Japanese “cause they look similar” and not proof reading or fact checking before publication in front of millions it’s doubling down on them not caring about japan and simply using it as a background for their propaganda game. To use Chinese characters in a world release not promotional to China but confusing the two languages shows they had no Japanese coordination. Which makes many of us rightfully angry the game looks okay with what they’ve shown game play wise nothing special but it’s nothing to do with assassins creed. A 6’3 black guy doesn’t blend in and isn’t stealthy. Which the fundamentals of the creed being about concealment. He isn’t gonna be able to hide on bench or blend in. @BackseatGamer-o4j firstly, the 99% of people complaining about these issues are gamers many of them Japanese and they have a right to protect their culture from the cancerous indoctrination culture that are propagating the gaming industry at large. Ruining games because they need to meet quotas, black, gay, gender diverse, woman etc while these aren’t bad individually… when they are only added to hit check marks on a check-board it’s offensive and culturally insensitive. Secondly hip hop isn’t African culture. It’s “African American” don’t confuse the two like Ubisoft seems to have! And as for the Chinese characters yes that is a massive problem! They used it on promotional materials implying it was Japanese characters giving it as attempted promotional materials to Japanese influencers it’s like making a game based on Italy. With Italian characters and story. Then sending Italian influencers, French text on everything implying it’s Italian. They have a right to call it out. Just because you’re a shill for Ubisoft who can’t see how offensive they’ve become under Sweet baby Inc. forced diversity pushes. It’s political indoctrination at the expense of the culture. Setting and story! I can’t wait for him to get captured on a mission! And say “black lives matter” to the Japanese captors.. before you go off on me for saying that I’m a black man. So it’s not being being offensive it’s myself calling out the stuff that doesn’t reflect on black culture favourably it just makes us go. Oh another game set in a place where they raced swapped the character to meet modern political points And yes stealth is a big part, just because you’re not good at it doesn’t mean you speak for us. Jin was a good character unlike the last few characters, two of them being Greek gods themselves !?!? That’s not assassins creed that’s final fantasy levels of crap anyways your points are the true invalid points. I’m done arguing with shill

Some westerners have called us losers, because signatures like this don't mean anything. But our real purpose is to express that the Japanese people are angry. And when we use Japanese, they say it is a translation or we should speak English. What the hell As you know, Japanese is understood even if the subject is omitted or the grammar is broken. The Japanese we use obviously cannot be reproduced by a translator. When native speakers read it, they immediately know I am Japanese. In fact, even if I omit more, the Japanese can still understand what I want to say.
A true Samurai commits seppuku (un-aliving themselves instead of surrendering). The fact that Yasuke who Ubisoft claims is a "legendary samurai" surrendered and ran after the fight in Honnoji IS AN INSULT to the TRUE legendary Japanese samurais.

The most important thing, its been referenced in many Japanese RUclips videos is that the Petition is going to be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Those three Ministries in Japan, especially the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has the ability to force any game company to censor/change content or be banned from being sold. GTA3 is a perfect example of this, as that game was heavily edited for Japanese release, but was still banned in Kanagawa prefecture. This whole situation is not joke, it can cause Ubisoft to lose the entire Japanese market.

The problem is that UBI said it was based on historical facts, not fiction. In addition, the developers of UBI have also stated that they cannot empathize with Asian men, which has also been viewed as problematic in Japan.

A quick look at this game trailers and other materials Ubisoft have released tells us Japanese that they didn't pay attention to the seasonality, architecture, religion, clothing, writing, and on and on. Almost every detail has something wrong. It is blatantly obvious they don't care about historical accuracy. Even the Yasuke himself in the game seem to have little reference to the actual historical person, but a manifestation of their stereotype of black Americans. But Ubi is adamant about two things, that Yasuke will be the main samurai protagonist, and that their game is "historically accurate". It is obvious they have some other motives, and that they are using the blackface of Yasuke as leverage. These Europeans are using Yasuke as if he is still their slave, it seems.
It’s ironic when I was actually voicing my problems with this. I was called a racist because they were a black man and that I shouldn’t speak for the Japanese. Well it seems the Japanese feel exactly the same.
For weeks, every time actual Japanese spoke up about this issue they were all falsely accused of being white racists using Google Translate pretending to be Japanese. I was accused of the same when I quoted PRIMARY JAPANESE HISTORICAL SOURCE. Yeah, sure, white gamers used Google Translate to fabricate historical records in the 16th century, of course.
“One and only time they’ll probably have a Japanese game!” After this, you can be sure this will be the only time they’ll have a Japanese game. No one wanted this and yet, just like Disney, they didn’t care what people wanted. Just boycott this game and make your disappointment known.
The problem with this game is that it advertises it as historical fact. If it had been promoted on the premise that it was a completely fictional story, this wouldn't have been an issue. Nobunaga freed him from slavery and hired him, but he was not given a surname. If he could fight, why did he not do anything when Nobunaga was killed? The samurai who found him after the war thought that Yasuke had nothing to do with the battle between the samurai. Therefore, Yasuke was let go and his whereabouts are unknown. The problems with this game are as follows: "Martin Luther King Jr was merely a portable shrine held up by a powerful white man with a good heart. This is a historical fact." "Edison was not a great inventor, but a simple businessman who collected ideas from his talented black subordinates and made them into a business." "Haiti gained independence in 1804 thanks to the efforts of those with white blood, and black people alone could not have done such a thing." Japanese people feel discriminated against because the creators of this game think it is okay to treat Japanese history in this way. In fact, some people have fabricated proverbs that do not exist in Japan, such as the following, in relation to the drama "Shogun." 「There's a Japanese proverb that says for a Samurai tobe brave, he must have abit of Black blood. (William Spivey, Mar 8, 2024)」
Another issue that is overlooked but brought to light by Japanese fans is that not only are Ubisoft's ignorant decisions a slap in the face to Japanese, but its also an insult to Yasuke himself and does more damage in ways to his image. We dont know much about him, but he's basically being used as a political tool to push their agenda. If they had just put him in as an NPC that helped the player, it wouldn't have been an issue and would have ironically made him more likable. The mistakes they're making with Chinese characters and other things are also just embarrassing. How can you take Ubisoft seriously and respect them if they can't show the same respect by doing their research. There's a reason why Ghost of Tsushima was well received in Japan - it was developed by a non Japanese studio that tried to be as accurate and respectful as possible.
At first, everyone was positive. In other words, we didn't hate Yasuke on first impression. However, UBI's attitude of disrespecting Japan continued many times after that. Also, with each passing day, many super basic mistakes that would have been noticed if only one single Japanese person had supervised were discovered. What made us decisively angry was when UBI added Chinese subtitles to a video that was only available in Japan. They are completely making fun of Japan.
From a Japanese perspective, they have made countless mistakes that they could have noticed if they had just hired one single Japanese person. There are horrible mistakes and plagiarisms. I and we are angry that they do not respect our culture and only imitate the surface. We also angry that the Woke movement that applies to black people does not apply to Japanese people. For example, IGN claims that Resident Evil, in which a white person slaughter black zombies, is discriminatory, but they promoted a game in which a black person slaughter Japanese people. If they don't accept double standards, they should accept both. It's infuriating to see them accept only one side and reject only the other. UBI's response to us speaking out was also terrible. All of our opinions were claimed to be LARPing by them and they tried to be drowned it out. They clearly look down on Japan.
Some people seem to be accusing Japanese people of being racially discriminatory against Black people, but it's a terrible accusation. Did you know that in 1919, Japan advocated for the abolition of racial discrimination but it was rejected? Japanese diplomats worked hard to secure a majority vote in favor, but it was overturned by just one country. It was Wilson of the United States who insisted that unanimous agreement was necessary (the UK followed suit).
・January 1919: The Paris Peace Conference convenes to negotiate the peace treaties following World War I. Representatives from various countries gather to discuss post-war order and international cooperation. ・February 1919: Japanese Foreign Minister Sato Nobuaki arrives in Paris to ascertain Japan's stance at the conference. ・April 1919: As part of the Paris Peace Conference, the establishment of the League of Nations (predecessor to the United Nations) is proposed. Principles, including the abolition of racial discrimination, are adopted during this time. ・May 1919: Japan supports proposals, including the abolition of racial discrimination, and advocates for their inclusion in the League of Nations Covenant. ・June 1919: Japan's proposals receive support from many countries, but President Woodrow Wilson of the United States insists on unanimous agreement, a stance supported by the United Kingdom. ・July 1919: Due to the requirement for unanimous consent, Japan's proposal, including the abolition of racial discrimination, is rejected. This timeline illustrates Japan's efforts and the subsequent rejection of its proposals during the Paris Peace Conference of 1919.
@WokeIsntAwake exactly, sucker punch respects the hell out of Japanese people. That game is perfection and honestly one of the best sword fighting in any game other than Ninja Gaiden
@eternalsunshine7874 I find it funny that many "Japanese" people complaining about how historically inaccurate AC Shadows is. But they didn't complain about Ghost of Tsushima, which is full of inaccuracies. Examples are: - Katanas didn't existed prior to Mongol invasions, they were just tachi, which is curviver than katana, and they created katana because of how the realized that tachi's blades were brittle and couldn't penetrate Mongolian armor. - The samurai code or Bushido, wasn't fully implemented back then, it was developed around the 16th century - Armor designs like the Samurai and Sakai Clan armors are anachronistic, those were later created in the 15th-17th centuries. -Hwacha (That rocket used by the Mongols) didn't even exist nor developed by Mongols, it was created by the Koreans around the 16th century, which is IRONIC because the hwacha was a response to the Japanese invasions of Korea. -Haiku didn't exist in the Mongol invasions, it was later "invented" in the 17th century.
I want Japan to respond by cancelling any an all tax credits for Ubisoft and their affiliates for the next 25 years and then applying hefty tariffs on all their products in Japan for 1-5.
Its not only the Japanese who wont be playing it. Theres no way i want to play a Game in a historical Japanese setting with an African man. Put that African man in a historical African setting. And let the Japanese man be in his own setting. The racism from Ubisoft is off the scale. Im glad I dont give them money anymore
Originally, black Yasuke, who was not a real samurai, was not literally a samurai and was great material when used as Assassins. Putting aside the historical falsification issue ... I feel very sorry that Yasuke's limitless potential was crushed only by making him a samurai. The use of Yasuke as a black samurai is a typical stereotype that has been worn out in Japanese fiction. Perhaps Ubisoft had no idea that Yasuke was so important and lovable to the limited Japanese history buffs. Most Japanese don't know about Yasuke. However, many people know Oda Nobunaga. There is no way that the Japanese, who created the manga culture that elaborates the details of the story, would leave the mysterious existence that stayed with Nobunaga for a short period of time without any documents. Ubisoft made too little of the Japanese culture that created the otaku race. Although he is not well known, people who know Yasuke have tried to solve his mystery by thoroughly examining the primary documents, which are said to be the most accurate in terms of historical facts. The idea that it's just such a thing or that it's nonsense to focus on whether a game is fiction or not doesn't apply to Japanese people. That kind of attention to detail has given birth to Japanese art and has fostered a unique culture. Because we are tolerant of diversity, we rarely cry about cultural appropriation even if we are presented with a somewhat different Japan. Because you can feel the respect from the other person.Whether a foreigner wears a kimono or makes a fake Japanese-style game, as long as respect is felt, we do not consider it cultural appropriation. Ubisoft's Assassins Creed Shadows don't have a shred of respect. All I could feel was Japan, its culture, its history, its attitude of unbridled disregard for the Japanese and its sense of discrimination. Ubisoft even treats us as racists for calling out cultural appropriation. It's an unthinkable insult.
I'm half Black and Latino, I'm definitely not supporting this game it's absolutely disrespectful for Japanese culture. As an American my heart and car culture will always belong to Japan 🗾 not the USA it's getting ridiculous and out of control that's why I'm voting for Trump 2024.
We see its wrong, but these game company's and movies don't care what the people want. Its all about trying to make money, which they fall flat on their faces.
It's hilarious that people who normally advocate for DEI are calling others "racist" and excluding those who are protesting against the insult to their culture
This is proof that it was never about black people. In fact, the majority of them likely don't even care about the blatant propaganda Yasuke wiki change. But the absolute disrespect on their very history, culture and even architecture of feudal Japan is too much. It's so obvious to everyone that Yasuke was choosen as a character for no other reason other than he's black. What excuse are they going to give now? "If you don't like it, you're just racists"? That line isn't going to fly here; I mean being racist against whom? Their own history, their own cultue? All of a sudden, white western developers get to tell the Japanese what's right or wrong of their own heritage? Bullshit. Ghost of Tsushima, on the other hand, is actual proof that even the Japanese would publicy applaud the efforts of western developers for actually doing their research instead of trying to push agendas.
It be fun if the Japanese government do what Egypt did with Cleopatra series and sue Ubisoft for misrepresenting Japanese history. I know it's not the same, but they certainly try to act and push that this is the correct history.
The people who want games for gaming, and not agenda, are likely not buying this one. The crowd that wants games for ridiculous trap music in a Japanese period piece are probably burning their last brain cell waiting to throw money at this abomination.
The best part of assassin's creed is the cinematic trailers and the assassin's outfits. Its a shame they ditched all of this when they made asscreed orgins

However, now that I have been a victim of this incident, I think I have come to understand how ugly it is and how it hurts people's dignity.

As a Black person, I agree with most of the points made by Japanese people. I just wish that in the Western world, people would stop hating Black people as if we were responsible for the game. I've noticed that in these comments, the majority of Japanese people are upset with the game studio, whereas in the West, most of the complaints are purely hateful toward Black people and outright racist. I appreciate that Japanese critics make it clear they have no issues with Black people or Yasuke as a historical figure.

You speaking facts and it’s appreciated to educate idiots yet everyone with pronouns and purple hair at Ubisoft will still say you are lying 😂
I know this is a little late but, great post! We stand with Japan! Your comment was very well said, and quite specific. I had no idea how much they've gotten wrong in regards to your countries' customs and history. Ubisoft has completely disrespected Japan and its great culture..and that's plain wrong for them to do! Then to call you all "racists" for calling them out based on legitimate concerns using facts and critical thinking is what ALL companies are doing today to anyone else who would speak up. It sickens me.
I'm from the USA and I thank you for pointing out specifics and also thank you for reading! Take care!

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Not that it would really matter since no one over there will be playing the game.
I hope it gets banned worldwide
I don't know if it will get officially banned, but what could happen is game stores in Japan could just refuse to order any units. It would be unofficially banned.

Black people are angry… As a Black person, I agree with most of the points made by Japanese people. Please do not pass this issue into the black community as if we created this problem, we are always used as scapegoats and shields.

Why is Ubisoft AC: Shadows… only seeing the only black man in an all Asian game…stereotypical profiling a black man with rap music
With in-correct seasons of tress vs food+plants and the wrong architecture and moral values in Japanese culture and to add if a samurai went to a farming village, the villagers would defend themselves not bow…there was no corruption in this era of Japan. Yet the evil protagonist sees corruption everywhere. And no samurai would walk around in full armour day and night. And with his brutality, he would be caught and not well received as a hero.

It’s racist to both Japan and Africa. They made a real character gay, when he fights it’s backed up by hip hop as if he was African American which is racist to Africans and their history. He doesn’t blend in and isn’t an assassin so it changes his history and less favourable by the way Ubisoft is handling him as a prop for diversity
@Rotom0479 I won’t be on principle. I’m sharing my feelings on the game by boycotting with my wallet
@BackseatGamer-o4j GOT is Japanese assassins creed but a more faithful recreation that isn’t offensive
@BackseatGamer-o4j well your 100% wrong because as a long time and honestly from the beginning with AC1 I was a fan amongst millions more and they removed a featured item form the trailer “the crossbow” for historical accuracy while yes they made some unrealistic features In the past like the apple of Eden and precursors etc. none of them perverted history in a way that made real life persons into main characters changing their history to suit diversity at cost of the experience. And it’s racist to his history to marginalise him form African culture and Japanese culture by changing his cultural persona to African American instead of African/Japanese. And they made his character gay. I’m a gay man myself and didn’t ask or want this forced social diversity nonsense shoved down my throat. And GOT while not under the assassins brand is far more faithful to Japanese culture, history and more it even brought back traditional main stays of assassins creed that we the true fans.. not the origins - Valhalla fans like yourself who doesn’t speak for the many of us who are voicing our opinions against a company that is using gay and minority identities as props to hit quotas it’s offensive
@BackseatGamer-o4j clearly you haven’t read up on why the community is largely against it, it’s 99% gamers who are fans who are angry with the projection and politicisation of this Franchise you can’t seem to get the fact it’s political not creative reasons that they are doing this and they are being offensive to Japanese culture from swapping out a Japanese centred game to have an African character while historically a real person rewriting his personal history to fit their narratives and politics. Which makes him nothing close to an assassin unlike Jin in GOT who was more believable and better dynamic for the setting, period and culture despite it too Taking liberties with the timeline it kept it apolitical and rich in culture unlike Paris Ubisoft
Oh another game set in a place where they raced swapped the character to meet modern political points
And yes stealth is a big part, just because you’re not good at it doesn’t mean you speak for us. Jin was a good character unlike the last few characters, two of them being Greek gods themselves !?!? That’s not assassins creed that’s final fantasy levels of crap anyways your points are the true invalid points. I’m done arguing with shill

A true Samurai commits seppuku (un-aliving themselves instead of surrendering). The fact that Yasuke who Ubisoft claims is a "legendary samurai" surrendered and ran after the fight in Honnoji IS AN INSULT to the TRUE legendary Japanese samurais.
Two developers who worked on the PlayStation exclusive Ghost of Tsushima have been declared ambassadors by Tsushima Island. Creative director Jason Connell and game director Nate Fox, both of Sucker Punch Productions, are due to be named ambassadors of the actual city of Tsushima, Nagasaki
I've read that they are "only" ambassadors in honoris (I hope that's the right term, English is not my first language), have no real representative power to speak for Japan, but you are absolutely right.
It still shows how much the Japanese people appreciated Ghost of tsushima.

Very interesting, it is good that the Japanese authorities may take action
Good. Hopefully they do and shut down the company entirely
How could an eunuch slave be turned into a samurai in less than a year?
Can’t and it never did.
According to Rockley and Britannica, Yasuke was not a slave but an "African mercenary" or "an Indian free citizen who was trained as an escort."They rewrote the description.
However, the missionary does not mention Yasuke's salary, nor does it have Yasuke's real name.

A modified version of the Nijo Castle MATSUTAKA ZU is used in the game, which is designated as an important cultural property and has a governing body.
It is stipulated that a fee be paid for the use of the image, but apparently they have not obtained permission to use it.

Funny thing is if they made him a ninja, it could have worked... Because assassins and NOT upper class
Shh... They don't want people questioning the stereotypical female ninja in Naoe to double their worries right now.

The problems with this game are as follows:
"Martin Luther King Jr was merely a portable shrine held up by a powerful white man with a good heart. This is a historical fact."
"Edison was not a great inventor, but a simple businessman who collected ideas from his talented black subordinates and made them into a business."
"Haiti gained independence in 1804 thanks to the efforts of those with white blood, and black people alone could not have done such a thing."
Japanese people feel discriminated against because the creators of this game think it is okay to treat Japanese history in this way.
In fact, some people have fabricated proverbs that do not exist in Japan, such as the following, in relation to the drama "Shogun."
「There's a Japanese proverb that says for a Samurai tobe brave, he must have abit of Black blood.

@eternalsunshine7874 I find it funny that many "Japanese" people complaining about how historically inaccurate AC Shadows is.
But they didn't complain about Ghost of Tsushima, which is full of inaccuracies. Examples are:
- Katanas didn't existed prior to Mongol invasions, they were just tachi, which is curviver than katana, and they created katana because of how the realized that tachi's blades were brittle and couldn't penetrate Mongolian armor.
- The samurai code or Bushido, wasn't fully implemented back then, it was developed around the 16th century
- Armor designs like the Samurai and Sakai Clan armors are anachronistic, those were later created in the 15th-17th centuries.
