It's funny seeing people pretending like the AC case is normal. While if it was reversed as in black culture with another race protagonist everyone will suddenly acknowledge how bad it is. They clearly made that decision based on race and somehow it is expected from people to just talk about the game and not make it about race. They simply got what they asked for, and they should accept the good and the bad of it.
"There's been so much excitement around the idea of assassin's creed taking on feudal Japan" Uhh excitement from who? Ghost of Tsushima is better than any assassin's creed game...
Wasn't that Ubisoft's defense when they were accused of including the black samurai just for diversity's sake? "Hey, that's a real historical figure. We've never used them as a protagonist before, but this time we’re paying attention." And all this just to say now that they don't care about history... "Oh, come on, why don't we just make him gay too?" xD
Really liked thar "Japanese hip-hop" when his gameplay was revealed. It's getting to the point where we're living in a cartoon or less-gore version of The Boys. It's sad how much pandering they're doing to try and sell a game when if it was simply a Japanese samurai story it would've gotten praise.
If it would have just been a Japanese samurai it would have been compared to Ghost of tsushima which it would not have lived up to. Having Yasuke differentiates it from other games.
As much as I despise Ubisoft for other reasons, the fact that they're focusing on addressing cultural elements within the game and addressing the Japanese audience is actually commendable and the only real thing worth addressing. While Yasuke is depicted in a very romanticised and fictional way, it shouldn't ever have been a problem, but it is to people who attach so many other matters to the argument in a ditch effort to disguise low-key racism. It's why people consider the argument about Yasuke very messy. There's now so many excuses for why he wasn't a samurai, now transforming into a narrative of why he wasn't a worthwhile samurai or he wasn't a samurai of a very high rank . This kind of strawman transformation is indicative of the overall discourse among the pseudo 'historians' online arguing about Yasuke being (in the beginning), an entirely made-up character. Personally, I just find it down right hilarious, having actually studied Japanese studies and graduated on a scholarship in Japan. It's only now that I found out I am a liar as an on the topic for most of my decade in tertiary training; at the same time being told Yasuke can't have become a samurai and wouldn't be proficient in less than two years with Nobugana. Not fallacious at all lol.
@@fortniteisexpensiveuh for putting black guy in fuedal Japan when they said they’d keep it accurate lol. Are you slow or something? This game is gonna fail hard 😂
The "apology" was such a lie "Long cherished dream"? They turned down feudal Japan a decade ago when it was an all Japanese cast. Notice how they put "external consultants" before historians and researchers, it says a lot about their priorities
I totally agree, I miss the olden days when the discourse around games was about the game itself and or us being turbo nerds for caring about that. Genuinely would rather go back to that, than all those other bullshit.
Same. The problem is that the games media has been changing the discourse and pushing their narratives. Notice how games media don't want to talk about games anymore. They just want to talk about issues. I'd love to go back to just talking about games and not these narratives that are pushed on us.
They took crossbows because weren't accurate. Sometimes they care, sometimes they do not care. The issue here is making a video in Japanese talking how respectful they were with history using real historians... and almost every weak they got shown to not be actual historians but either major in laws or health... Lol, ubisoft deserve that criticism.
@@MichaelMashpotato I always enjoyed in the older games when they'd give more details on the characters life, was cool to see when I was younger, and I enjoyed how they filled in the blanks to fit the AC fiction that would feel plausible with the historic figures expertise. Thats why I dont vibe with shadows cause they dont have the character portrayed right, its someone who wouldnt have had the freedom or power/standing to do whatever fictional plot they want him to do unlike past historical figures we see. Just my opinion.
ubisoft really needed to take more care. seris like assassin creed which are inserting some fiction into authentic history its not a good idea to make the protag(s) an actual historical figure unless the resarch is concrete and can't be wrong. it be better to use the lack of records by having him be an assassinn who nobody really thinks he is more than a noverty thats kept around. it makes sense that an assassin would likely have limited records of their life with just their prescence in japan being recorded. also that "appology" is a prime example of a "we don't like we have to lie though our teeth to do a PR statement" applogy instead of an actual appology
Here's the real place ubisoft messed up: They want to tell their own story. . . but made the playble character be someone from real life. . . i'm sorry but at that point, for the former to work, you have to just create a fictional character. Not twist a real person into your fictional character. Atleast as far as main characters go anyways. Ubisoft can still fix this by just renaming the character to bob, bob the samurai. Same exact story, but now we can just ignore the real world history side. Problem solved.
Your comment seems mellow so maybe you'll approach my genuine question nicely. What's wrong with a fictional samurai being black? I mean the setting is period of time sure but if everything around that is fictional, I don't get how it would be a problem if he was Indian or White. Again I'm genuinely asking. I've never played AC but I know its always been 'fake history'
@@sechabatheletsane9784 because it's messy. You say in one side of your mouth that it's historical fiction, but then out the other side of your mouth, you're using an actual...historic...person that existed. There has been NO Assassin Creed main character that's a real historic figure prior to this, so why start now? #2, I'm not going to say that every AC main character is beat for beat via heritage however, it's just odd via the decision to make AC game based in Japan and not have a Japanese samurai. You and I both know if the game was flipped and was based in Africa, they would have NEVER put an ivory skinned European as the main character. Both protagonist would have been Africans. But to answer your question, it's less to do with "what's wrong?" and more to do with why would you? It would be different if Ubisoft was making an independent Yasuke game, but to have him in an AC game is odd.
The AC thing wouldn’t matter much if they didn’t release a prince of Persia game where you don’t play as a Persian but an adopted black man so you can see why people are cynical of the decision behind the characters
I think it’s kind of foolish to think Ubisoft would make any huge significant change to the game since it’s literally coming out in 4 months (unless they delayed the game which is possible but even then I doubt it would be for anything significant aside from patching out some bugs). The most Ubisoft could do to make it up to Japan and their player base is make a DLC or something where you play as an actual Japanese samurai (which I wouldn’t be surprised if they are already in development of something like that as we speak).

May Ubisoft's stock continue to devalue and their debit rise in the future. Who's the genius that thought a non East Asian male MC in a game set in East Asia would be a good idea?
I stopped buying UBISOFT games in 2019. They were already going downhill years ago but they are just stupid worse now.
Let’s make a Japanese game with a non Japanese main character. 🤦♂️ I can’t wait until the next Africa based AC has a white main character.
No one's talking about the fact that there's going to be some kind of romance option in there for Yasuke to top some dude as well. But I guess that's par for the course - might as well make the dude black as well as gay just for social credit points. Why would I want to give money to a company and have to play a character like that? It's just more pandering to a small insignificant and perverse minority of people so the company looks like they're progressive or something. Vote with your wallet and don't buy Ubisoft trash.
Please, you're probably the first person to pre-order those loli punishing simulators.
This Ubisoft "apology" is a "Sorry you feel that way" than a "we're sorry we got some stuff wrong, but the people we collabed with said it was ok, so we're listening to them"
Its a south park we're sorry lol
Lmao, who gives a sh*t? I consulted my Japanese mate born and bred and he doesn’t care.
Typical faux outrage. If people are finding time to be “outraged” over something so trivial then I would suggest they reevaluate their life priorities.
As it should be. They're not owed an apology and really weren't owed this. If you like it, buy it and play it and if you don't... Don't. It's that simple and there's no need to capitulate to whiners.
Not faux. Not forced. The Japanese government got involved with this. That is why the apology even exists. Don't fuck with Japanese history.

But then I was watching listings on eBay change their prices from ~$15 to over $40 in real time and seeing them sell out, I pulled the trigger on a GameCube set for more than I should have. It was compulsive and I’m a little ashamed of myself
Still don't understand why exactly Ubisoft felt they had to apologize for making a video game that is fictional? We didn't see them apologizing for making interesting changes to Cappadocia or changing the story of Nassau, etc. As in they didn't need to. It's fictional. Are they getting complaints that the content isn't historically accurate? I'm pretty sure there isn't a hidden sigil for an Assassin on buildings in Italy either but you don't see them apologizing for not being historically accurate to that...
Best AC game was II / Brotherhood / Revelations. I dropped out after the disaster that was Unity. There hasn't been a good AC game since III, and I doubt there will be again. Honestly, Desmond's story and the story they were telling set in the current time, all that was more interesting to me than the assassin stories. [also, Black Flag was a pirate game, not an Assassin's Creed game.]

It is a Japanese samurai story
PS. There's been plenty of Metal & Rock in movies with Historical settings.
If it would have just been a Japanese samurai it would have been compared to Ghost of tsushima which it would not have lived up to. Having Yasuke differentiates it from other games.
You are bot, stop spaming.
@@SonyThe1TrickPony enjoy your black gay fake samurai

Same. The problem is that the games media has been changing the discourse and pushing their narratives. Notice how games media don't want to talk about games anymore. They just want to talk about issues. I'd love to go back to just talking about games and not these narratives that are pushed on us.

Assassins Creed has always been historically accurate. I remember seeing Leonardo da Vincis flying machine at the museum of natural history.
Remember when Connor was there when they signed the declaration of independence. History at it's midst accurate

I think Nintendo came up with a good idea to sell out their old stocks
If u want to play a new samurai game then get Rise of the Ronin, that game kicks ass
ubisoft really needed to take more care. seris like assassin creed which are inserting some fiction into authentic history its not a good idea to make the protag(s) an actual historical figure unless the resarch is concrete and can't be wrong. it be better to use the lack of records by having him be an assassinn who nobody really thinks he is more than a noverty thats kept around. it makes sense that an assassin would likely have limited records of their life with just their prescence in japan being recorded. also that "appology" is a prime example of a "we don't like we have to lie though our teeth to do a PR statement" applogy instead of an actual appology
Here's the real place ubisoft messed up:
They want to tell their own story. . . but made the playble character be someone from real life. . . i'm sorry but at that point, for the former to work, you have to just create a fictional character. Not twist a real person into your fictional character. Atleast as far as main characters go anyways. Ubisoft can still fix this by just renaming the character to bob, bob the samurai. Same exact story, but now we can just ignore the real world history side. Problem solved.
As long as the industry remains inflated beyond its usefulness there will continue to be Layoffs
Ubisoft has been doing this with many of their recent releases. I will be skipping every single one of them.
Marvel rivals isn't trying to push Dei version of overwatch
