It’s a shame how much better the Nintendo stores in Japan are as compared to their New York location. I was in Japan a few months back and the merchandise they had was leaps and bounds more unique and high quality than anything I’d seen in New York. Here in the states they just seem to work as a reseller for their online store/brand partners rather than carrying exclusive items.
Would love to see that change sometime soon.

Agreed, I just visited the NY store a month ago and it wasn’t impressive. There needs to be more exclusive products and special bonuses for buying games there such as a standard cardboard sleeve for buying first party games and maybe an exclusive Switch design that’s sold there.
It was just okay quality toys that you can buy anywhere.

@@eddi3401 Always online means that for PC players there is no cheat engine or modding allowed. The game has to be offline for that.
For a Ubisoft game specifically, the inventory editor's are a godsend as ubisoft forces you to either grind for literal hours to keep up or spend lots of money on their in-game store. No in-between, no mercy. Just a full price game with gacha mechanics. PC lets you beat the gacha mechanics, but always online takes that away.
Basically, it would be seen as an incredibly scummy way of preventing any cheating or modding in a single player game. It's intrusive af, and NOBODY likes it. It's used to prevent players from avoiding hours of useless grind and padding in games that don't need or deserve it.

It's mostly about the environment they create around them, how they treat their employees, how they market their products, the things they have said regarding "not owning anything" and "Quadruple A" games in a time people are realizing AAA gaming is unsustainable and detrimental since companies want to produce that amount of insanely huge games in such little time and pretty much only make that, which is unrealistic. If you don't know or don't care about the whole assassin's Creed thing, let me say this:
Assuming you are from the US, imagine Ubisoft coming out and saying they are using an actual historical figure for the first time: Nelson Mandela the legendary 40th president of the United States of America. They then say you can learn actual US history from the game and then show everything wrong. Oh and he is gay. (Nothing wrong with being gay but remember this is a historical person they are talking about)
Now if you wouldn't agree to that, well remember Mandela was an actual president, Yasuke was never a samurai.

As much as I despise Ubisoft for other reasons, the fact that they're focusing on addressing cultural elements within the game and addressing the Japanese audience is actually commendable and the only real thing worth addressing. While Yasuke is depicted in a very romanticised and fictional way, it shouldn't ever have been a problem, but it is to people who attach so many other matters to the argument in a ditch effort to disguise low-key racism. It's why people consider the argument about Yasuke very messy. There's now so many excuses for why he wasn't a samurai, now transforming into a narrative of why he wasn't a worthwhile samurai or he wasn't a samurai of a very high rank . This kind of strawman transformation is indicative of the overall discourse among the pseudo 'historians' online arguing about Yasuke being (in the beginning), an entirely made-up character.
Personally, I just find it down right hilarious, having actually studied Japanese studies and graduated on a scholarship in Japan. It's only now that I found out I am a liar as an on the topic for most of my decade in tertiary training; at the same time being told Yasuke can't have become a samurai and wouldn't be proficient in less than two years with Nobugana. Not fallacious at all lol.

Here's the real place ubisoft messed up:
They want to tell their own story. . . but made the playble character be someone from real life. . . i'm sorry but at that point, for the former to work, you have to just create a fictional character. Not twist a real person into your fictional character. Atleast as far as main characters go anyways. Ubisoft can still fix this by just renaming the character to bob, bob the samurai. Same exact story, but now we can just ignore the real world history side. Problem solved.

You say in one side of your mouth that it's historical fiction, but then out the other side of your mouth, you're using an actual...historic...person that existed. There has been NO Assassin Creed main character that's a real historic figure prior to this, so why start now? #2, I'm not going to say that every AC main character is beat for beat via heritage however, it's just odd via the decision to make AC game based in Japan and not have a Japanese samurai. You and I both know if the game was flipped and was based in Africa, they would have NEVER put an ivory skinned European as the main character. Both protagonist would have been Africans. But to answer your question, it's less to do with "what's wrong?" and more to do with why would you?
