Normally games _from_ PAL regions get speed-adjusted for export (like the WipEout series), but for some reason, many Japanese companies didn't bother to do it the other way. I don’t know why, but for some reason I really wanted that Puzzles & Dragons game when I was younger. It was literally one of my most wanted games when when it released in the US.

I’m still annoyed that they never re-released the Super Mario Bros or Zelda Game & Watch games. They had the perfect opportunities when both franchises got the modern Game & Watch handhelds, but no, fuck us I guess.
12:42 I'm pretty sure the reason why Kirby's dream collection is just so much better than what the other Nintendo published collections are is because it wasn't even developed by Nintendo and is in fact developed by the actual creators of the Kirby games which is Hal Laboratory. Nintendo simply just published it
My favorite scenes for this episode, it was... "Super Mario All-Stars" 2:15 "The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition" 7:19 "Kirby's Dream Collection." 10:24 "Super Mario 3D All-Stars" 15:22 and "Metroid Prime Trilogy"29:03
I remember as a kid seeing the cover of Super Mario All-Stars on the cartridge and not realizing it was actually a collection of older games. Instead because of Mario's suit I assumed this was like a circus themed Mario game with tons of different power-ups and characters across the series. It was still really cool to play them though, and was how I found out that the Super Mario Advance games were themselves also rereleases of older titles after realizing they had some of the same games as in this collection.
Emulation is also literally not hard for the most part (some consoles with less developed emulators are exceptions). I'm really sick of people saying blatantly incorrect things about it. Although on the other hand, when emulation stays on the down-low it does attract less ire from the corps.
@@mallow2902 Yea the one thing I’m really sick of is people acting like emulation is the hardest thing on the planet. I can’t believe he actually started complaining about connecting a Bluetooth controller. Starting to sound like an oldhead.
33:19 as a matter of fact, when the DS first came out, my first question was, "Was this design inspired by the dual screen game and watch games?" I used to own that donkey Kong Game and watch, and that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the DS for the first time.
Emulation aways runs easily for me on PC, but like, connecting those controllers can actually be pretty annoying for some reason. Also downloading roms online is piracy, (I'd totally never ever do such a thing, never, totally) so official releases are definitely appreciated.
It’s crazy Pokémon never does this EVER like I can’t even think of anything coming close to this. Cuz not even the 3rd version of the games from back in the day, like Emerald or Platinum, felt like a compilation, more like a COMBINATION.
About that Tetris & Dr. Mario set... If you look at them carefully, they actually feel more like upgrades of the Game Boy versions rather than the NES ones. The graphics, the music, the head to head modes, they all use derivatives of how the titles operated on the handheld rather than anything from the NES.
Dang Panel DE Pon would have been my jam. At least it's referenced in Animal Crossing New Leaf as the mini game Puzzle League and the dress up items you can earn while meeting certain goals when playing it
I know 3D All Stars isn't great but I will defend it for these 3 points: It was the first time some of the cutscene music in Sunshine was released isolated from sound effects and speech First time the Shindou version of 64 was released in English Sunshine's widescreen is still more polished than any fanmade widescreen solution for Sunshine (at least that I'm aware of)
It's still a crappy re-release, made worse by the fact that Nintendo went hard with FOMO for it to drive up sales. And made even worse by the fact it has no Galaxy 2.
Metroid Prime Trilogy has to be my favorite Nintendo collection to this day. I mean, you have three amazing games all bundled together, two of which are given new motion controls and that you hop in and out of at anytime. I was more than glad to find a copy at GameStop while I was still, and while Metroid Prime Remastered is amazing on its own, I hope Prime 2 and 3 eventually get brought to Switch on their own. Though one collection I’m still crossing my fingers happens is a double pack of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. Being that they’d both WiiU ports, and I can’t see Nintendo releasing them individually. Then again, they rereleased Luigi’s Mansion 2 and DKC Returns for full price, so what do I know?
I read online that Metroid Prime Trilogy production was limited so I managed to bag a sealed steelbook copy at the normal price before it became hard to find with the intention of selling it later on. I held onto it for a couple of years and sold it on ebay for five times what I paid for it. Wish I kept it now, its a good collectors piece.
Lost Levels was actually good if you regard it as an expansion pack for the first game. It was the first game I was proud to beat because my friends couldn't do it
Fun fact about Majora's Mask from the Zelda Collector's Edition: it doesn't work with the later GameCube memory cards that have more storage -- it's that borked. I found this out the hard way.
Shame we never got the Kirby collection in Europe for a system with a region lock. Glad that the game's ISO file still found the way to my Wii's harddrive. The new challenge stages are a great bonus.
Capcom really sets a high bar with their compilations. The Megaman collections, X collections, and mmbn collections have so many extras. Stuff like that is why I and many others shit on bare bones compilations like 3D All Stars. It deserves all of it.
I had asked for the Kirby 20th collection as a birthday present when that released. My parents actually bought it but returned it because they assumed i was too old for Kirby games. Never saw it in stores afterward
The zelda collection is very special to me cause GC was my first real console before backtracking to get an n64. I played that collection to death and associate its silver cover with my silver gamecube. I had the book they sold too and used to draw the boss art all the time. Thats always the fun of the guide books is getting the concept art with it. Always wanted the kirby one too but kinda like mario I pretty much had those games elsewhere. Only other one I got was the metroid one in a steel case but only cause i found it for cheap at the time. Kinda sad mario 3d all stars didnt have the DS version, Id love a version of that port without horrid controls.
I still have my SNES Classic plugged into my TV, and it is used at least once per week. Granted, I've sideloaded new games, but it's the way my kids play retro games.
The N64 ROM they used for Mario 64 was also the Shindou version which removed the backwards long jump and other glitches speedrunners utilized, so that was disheartening. And it wasn't even a ROM being used, it was like hybrid emulation with other stuff going on.
There's a little promo video in the Zelda Collector's Edition that actually says with this disc and the GBA Player all Zelda games are playable on GameCube. 1 and 2 on the disc, ALTTP on GBA, the three GB titles, Minish Cap on GBA, OoT and MM on the disc, and then Wind Waker and later Twilight Princess on GC.
Nintendo has the made best video game compilations, I love Zelda Anniversary collection on GameCube, Kirby collection, Super Mario All Stars on SNES, but I wish they made it on the DS instead of the Wii, since All Stars was redundant since you can already play all four NES games on the Wii virtual console. The DS would’ve been more appropriate since you’re playing classic Mario games on the go!
I can't remember for sure how we got our Zelda Promotional Disc, but I believe it was either a pre-order bonus for Windwaker or an incentive for re-subscribing to Nintendo Power. Either way, that disc was absolutely bonkers for how amazing it was as just a little bonus gift. Really next-level shit from Nintendo back then, though I do remember wishing A Link to the Past was on there at the time.

4:20 I started feeling and making sounds and faces of disgust when I heard that. The 2000s really were a different time huh
This truly is a Nintendo compilations moment of all time
I have to add, I still do have that Zelda Collectors Edition Players Guide, funnily enough.
that Mario, duck hunt, world class track meet was the first game I played as a kid.
Fun fact: Advance Wars 1 and 2 were released on the same cartridge in Japan as Game Boy Wars Advance 1+2
6:05 yo Scott, just run past them ya goof
My favorite scenes for this episode, it was...
"Super Mario All-Stars" 2:15
"The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition" 7:19
"Kirby's Dream Collection." 10:24
"Super Mario 3D All-Stars" 15:22
and "Metroid Prime Trilogy"29:03
27:34 wii sports + resort
That’s like all of them brother
I found it so strange that the Wii version of Mario All Star is missing Mario World like WTF?
24:27 i just love how excited he is for yoshis cookie
I remember as a kid seeing the cover of Super Mario All-Stars on the cartridge and not realizing it was actually a collection of older games. Instead because of Mario's suit I assumed this was like a circus themed Mario game with tons of different power-ups and characters across the series.
It was still really cool to play them though, and was how I found out that the Super Mario Advance games were themselves also rereleases of older titles after realizing they had some of the same games as in this collection.
I can't wait to see the compilation video of all Scott the Woz's compilation videos
Not everyone is a RUclipsr that can afford every console and its library. Emulation is a way to experience games I’d probably never have touched.
@@withoutthejuice7193 it's just computer illiteracy which isn't that surprising considering he is a mac user.
@@mallow2902 i love scott and have so much respect for him but its so pathetic
33:19 as a matter of fact, when the DS first came out, my first question was, "Was this design inspired by the dual screen game and watch games?" I used to own that donkey Kong Game and watch, and that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the DS for the first time.
1:34 "Hey, I'd buy that garbage, you'd buy that garbage."
No, no I would not.
Scott is the guy who couldn't figure out how to homebrew HIS WII. I am not surprised the most basic of emulation scares him.
We all have to start somewhere
I was listening to that section of the video and was like "wow I didn't scott was THAT dumb." This man can't even connect a simple bt controller??????
To be fair, he's a mac user
Bro 90% of families that owned a Wii didn’t either
@@Creatic58 I'm talking about now, not back when the wii couldn't be homebrewed.
the whole time i was in rehab i was so excited 2 watch scott i literally got out yesterday i was having woz withdrawls
Me clicking on this video knowing full well Scott is going to talk about the 25th Anniversary Super Mario All Stars for Wii again.
this is the 4th time that scott has talked about mario all stars for wii
Dang Panel DE Pon would have been my jam. At least it's referenced in Animal Crossing New Leaf as the mini game Puzzle League and the dress up items you can earn while meeting certain goals when playing it
I know 3D All Stars isn't great but I will defend it for these 3 points:
It was the first time some of the cutscene music in Sunshine was released isolated from sound effects and speech
First time the Shindou version of 64 was released in English
Sunshine's widescreen is still more polished than any fanmade widescreen solution for Sunshine (at least that I'm aware of)
even the crappiest of rereleases can have some redeeming qualities.
It's still a crappy re-release, made worse by the fact that Nintendo went hard with FOMO for it to drive up sales. And made even worse by the fact it has no Galaxy 2.
@@okagrontrue!
I wish kirby's dream collection came to europe and australia
Yep it never released here which ticked me off at the time.
We gotta thank Dream Collection for introducing us to Morpho Knight
Scott… if you want the price to go down you need to stop buying their games
28:15 It just gives you a warning when you select Advance Wars 2 before beating Advance Wars 1. You can still play it right from the start
The Zelda collection is very underrated from my point of view!
It was the first game I was proud to beat because my friends couldn't do it
Oh boy! I can't wait for Super Mario *4D* All-Stars next year!
The snes games in the x collection are really buggy but at least the other games run fine
@@catantcha99 I was mostly referring to the extras. Soundtracks, comics, toys, concept art, there was so much extra.
Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection BAYBEEEEEEEEE
@@theelike4302 yeah but it still sucks that if someone bought the first x collection that 3 of the 4 games run poorly
@@catantcha99 they must have patched it out because it runs just fine for me on Switch.
For like a year after they said it was no longer on sale, Mario 3d allstars was still on store shelves in large quantities lol
24:06 They likely just did not get permission from The Pokemon Company to release Pokemon Puzzle League (English release of Pannel Da Pon 64)
I remember bringing the Mario Music CD to school from the 25th Anniversary collection, and we listened to it while we studied. 😂
I'm so glad I got that Zelda Promotional disc. Same with Metroid Prime trilogy. Way too expensive now!
I miss gameandwatch collection. I remember I really wanted the Club Nintendo DS one back in the day but didn't have the gold coins for it
no views? this video is meant for me!
I had no idea that Kirby compilation existed and it seems amazing
I love my snes classic. I use it every now and then, but I do have it hacked with plenty of games.
mann i remember getting metroid prime trilogy just to play 1 and stop because i got lost
Zelda Collectors was literally everything to me growing up. I played it more than actual gamecube games hahaha
Scott literally just cussed like 1 second in it so funny.
Scott, bro, you RULE!!!
