    Video Suggestion. The Edgy Era of games. Back in the mid 2000s when many franchises decided to become mature. There were franchises such as Jack and Daxter, Prince of Persia, Sonic, Zelda, and Even Bomberman that had to put things like guns and swearing in their games.

    In my opinion, Link Between Worlds is the best Zelda game I've ever played. Everything about the game is exactly what I wanted in an Zelda game. An simple story, an perfect size overworlds, an easy & fast travel, an non-linear approach, better pacing, great progression, new mechanics that works really well, great puzzles, great dungeon designs, an more reliable sub weapons and an difficulty setting. Not to mentioned an great soundtrack & nice presentation. Yeah. This game is identical to A Link to the Past. But with the new additions, I think ALBW took all the amazing stuff ALttP offers and made it even better. To me, ALBW is the pinnacle of the Zelda format. Not just for 2D. But for Zelda in general. It is just so perfect.

    This is how yearly releases should be. The mainline AAA team takes as much time as they need and releases a big flagship game every 4-7 years. Then in between those big releases, side teams and third parties make spinoffs, remasters and smaller games. This is what Mario does as well.
    But then you have series like Pokemon lean almost entirely on their primary studio to make every game, or series like CoD and Assassins Creed rushing out new games every year.
    When people complain that AAA games take too long to come out: no, they don't. AAA games take a long time to make, that's what makes them AAA. The problem arises when a company releases nothing but AAA games; then you either have super long droughts of nothing, or the studio rushing every game to get them out before they're done. The way Nintendo handles big game releases is the right way.

    I'd say Phantom Hourglass and especially Spirit Tracks are worth revisiting some time. They're not the best of the best of Zelda games, but they're still amazing and worth a shot. Go in with the mindset that you'll be using the stylus a lot and the control scheme honestly works just fine.
    I guess I'm just annoyed at how many people dismiss these games simply because it doesn't use a D-Pad to move around.

    • @okagron
      @okagron 2 месяца назад

      Nah, Scott is right, the control scheme really does make both games annoying to play. That's not even the only bad part about them, the incredibly weak dungeons, the really easy bosses, how in both games you have to go through the same dungeon several times (the worst one being in Phantom Hourglass) and all the wasted time traveling around in a vehicle. And let's not forget how horrendous and finnicky stuff like the flute is in Spirit Tracks, that thing is genuinely one of the worst things in the franchise and it's mandatory to complete the game.
      Probably the two Zelda games that desperately need full remakes.

    "That's the Zelda cycle. People love the game when it first comes out and then a year later they F-ing hate it." God, if that isn't the core truth of this series. No Zelda game is ever truly appreciated until years after it come out. It makes this fanbase so exhausting, because nobody ever learns their lesson. A new game comes out, it gets its 10/10s, and then you have to spend the entire time until the next release listening to endless think pieces about how it's the "worst game ever" and "ruins the series" and how "things were better before" and they all pretend they didn't do this same thing for the previous release. Its a little hard for me to hear the Zelda fans say Botw was too different and open with a straight face, when not five years prior they were practically screaming about Skyward Sword being too samey and linear.

      Well its not a hive mind. People have their own opinions. I don't mind people disliking or liking something as long as their vocal opinions make sense (once you're vocal about something, you better back it up)
      I never got this argument even assuming the fanbase was a hive mind. Cause its just like complaining to someone "the tv is too loud", and then if they make it too quiet you suddenly aren't allowed to say "turn it up".
      Imo most people that share your view on the Zelda fanbase are arguing in bad faith. Or, you're struggling to genuinely defend a game you just like so you resort to generalizations

    • @MaxM210
      @MaxM210 Месяц назад

      @@chimpindoge3474 When, did I ever say the words or anything even close to the words "the Zelda fanbase is a hivemind"? Surely you understand the basic concept of fandom public consciousness right? Are you seriously suggesting that there are no larger shared opinions in the Zelda community? I'm describing the very definition of what a "fanbase" is. The very existence of a fanbase is predicated on the idea that there exist shared opinions that are common among a group. That's not a "hivemind" that's the basic definition of a fandom. Try saying "OOT is the worst Zelda game" amongst the Zelda community and see how accommodating they are about that opinion, no matter how much you back it up. That's not me calling them a hivemind, that's me correctly pointing out large scale fandom behaviour by a majority of people in a group, with varying levels of intensity from person to person.
      I say this as someone who loves both Skyward Sword and Botw. We're not talking about one person asking for the volume to be slightly turned down, we're talking about a room full of people demanding silence, and then being angry when there's no noise left. And it has happened to just about every 3D Zelda post OOt. Wind Waker famously got tons of backlash for its artstyle, so much so that twilight Princess went the complete opposite direction with its aesthetic. Botw literally exists as a response to Skyward Sword's intense fandom backlash. The Zelda series has been famously reactionary in design, pivoting wildly in response to large scale fandom reaction. That is objectively true.

    I’ll always go up to bat for Age of Calamity. I get that it’s not canon, and people want canon, okay, but the story they DID tell was like the game of thrones finale we all wanted but never got, and that ending battle scene was just the most amazing Zelda action scene I can remember.

    I once really wanted Twilight Princess on the Switch, now I have nothing but apathy for the Switch, I have no intention on buying a "Switch 2" or whatever they wanna call it.

    You know what? In my heart of hearts (and once I put my tinfoil hat on), Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the Necrodancer featuring The Legend of Zelda ABSOLUTELY COUNTS as a mainline 2D Zelda game. There are 4 themed dungeons, you fight classic bosses like Gohma (now Gohmaracas), Gleeok (now Gleeokenspiel) and Wizzrobe (now Wizzroboe), Ganon shafts the bad guy and there's a musical gimmick. You even get lost in the Lost Woods. All the staples you need of a Zelda game. It's like Zelda 1 with a musical gimmick.

    I didn't play Botw until work sent me home with full pay for 4 months during the pandemic. It's hard to explain to people how the pandemic was one of the best, most whimsical times of my life.

    While I did follow the series in the early days of youtube, the Spirit Tracks was actually the very first Zelda game I ever played. Got it in 2009 in a New York class trip alongside a 20 bucks copy of B&K Nuts and Bolts. I do remember enjoying it a fair bit despite the very different control scheme. I wish it got a remake with traditional controls though.

    The only people who didn't like the added voice clips on the GBA SNES ports are those who grew up with the SNES originals and didn't like change... I bet they didn't mind at all when Mario went wahoo or Link went hyaaah on the N64 though C:

    I appreciate the gag, but Kuru Kuru Kururin is legitimately a great game! And for that game, you didn't need several cartridges for link cable multiplayer... Kuru Kuru Kururin best Zelda game confirmed.

    Mortal Kombat had a similar game-a-year situation from the original arcade game until MK vs. DC Universe came out.
    The best thing to do with the Four Swords games is to get all GameCubes and Game Boy Players to play the game, with a TV for each GameCube. The task to get that together is almost infinitely more insurmountable though.
