One of the things I like about this compilation in particular is seeing the way Scott has grown over the years. You can really hear the difference between Sonic 1 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Okay, simple synopsis from me regarding Sonic CD in one phrase: "Style over Substance". It looks cool, it sounds amazing, but that's at the cost of the gameplay. It feels more like a glorified tech demo than an actual fully realized Sonic project.
No way is Sonic CD a glorified tech demo. It's amazing and is the most complete package of any 2D Sonic game. Frankly, Scott's review illustrates how little he understands the game. He even says he didn't want to locate the robot generators or collect the Time Stones, also known as 50% of the game. He basically played through it once and made a review, and knowing that many people don't seem to like it, he just regurgitated the opinion. Imho you can't praise Sonic Mania and disparage Sonic CD - which is exactly what Scott does - as so much of what makes that game great comes straight out of CD.

The stats showed 6 million Sega CD's sold until just a few years ago when everyone somehow just accepted a little over 2 million had sold. It's like a lot of things today... people misinterpret or deliberately change history to their liking.
Sonic 3's Sonic looks pissy because Sonic 3 takes place RIGHT AFTER Sonic 2 and he just had to fight the most annoying final boss in the history of gaming
Green Hill Zone is definitely a top 5 of all time opening level ost. I vastly prefer the Nintendo sound chips to segas but Green Hill Zone is just perfect.
Coving Sonic 3 and Knuckles separately was a choice. Imo it’s totally one game. Even in collections like origins it’s counted as one smooth experience. And also, I love Sonic CD. I think the music does a lot of the heavy lifting for the atmosphere but it’s one of the only games where eggman actually feels intimidating because you can see what happens if he wins.
Sonic 1 the trick to get straight to the emeralds is simple...Do not touch anything until you arrive near the emerald. Sonic will go straight to it if you dont touch any buttons. Obviously you got break the obstacles to obtain them but to find it...dont touch anything

Fun fact: the "mr. needlemouse" trivia is fake. Someone saw the concept art for the character and saw "mr. harinezumi" written there, and the literal translation to harinezumi is "needle mouse" but "harinezumi" is literally how you call hedgehogs in japanese: It's the combination of the words "needle" and "mouse" as a single word. So the concept arts were intending to be calling Sonic as "mr. hedgehog" and not "mr. needlemouse".

Seems no ones mentioned that the border for the sonic 1 episode has shrunk to be like the episodes starting with and following Madden 08 christmas (except for borderline forever) instead of the thicker one used for (most of) season 1.

S3K is the greatest Sonic game ever. It has never achieved anything like it since. No stupid side quests, great level design, a sense of a world connected, no human beings besides Robotnik, Knuckles and his character arc, 2 sets of emeralds....the fuckin Doomsday Zone. Okay I just played thru it again yday but c'mon, what has sonic done since?
I like how Scott doesn't know that Sonic 2 was Planned to have a Time Traveling Mechanic. And one of the Levels "Hill Top Zone" Is Emerald Hill in the past
4:00 while it has all sort of issues especially with the rushed port of sonic 3 and only recent plus addon adding Knucles as playable in Sonic cd. Sonic Origins is the closest that we most likely will get in terms of Sonic 1 and 2 wide screen mobile ports on home consoles and pc. Also it's rather expensive in my opinion 39€ for bunch of great but old and often re-released games is bit much. though overall other than the horrible versions of the Sonic 3 leaked beta and sonic 3 pc port on windows 95 songs. the compilation is still great way to experience the old classics in widescreen mode and with all the little extras from the mobile port included.
Sonic 1 honestly was an all time favorite because my mom played that one with me a lot 😊 but Sonic 3 & the Sonic & Kuckles cartridge are my # 1 favorites! Just found it extremely cool that you could play another game basically or ad characters 😂

S3K is the greatest Sonic game ever. It has never achieved anything like it since. No stupid side quests, great level design, a sense of a world connected, no human beings besides Robotnik, Knuckles and his character arc, 2 sets of emeralds....the fuckin Doomsday Zone. Okay I just played thru it again yday but c'mon, what has sonic done since?

4:00 while it has all sort of issues especially with the rushed port of sonic 3 and only recent plus addon adding Knucles as playable in Sonic cd.
Sonic Origins is the closest that we most likely will get in terms of Sonic 1 and 2 wide screen mobile ports on home consoles and pc.
Also it's rather expensive in my opinion 39€ for bunch of great but old and often re-released games is bit much.
though overall other than the horrible versions of the Sonic 3 leaked beta and sonic 3 pc port on windows 95 songs.
the compilation is still great way to experience the old classics in widescreen mode and with all the little extras from the mobile port included.
Sonic 1 honestly was an all time favorite because my mom played that one with me a lot 😊 but Sonic 3 & the Sonic & Kuckles cartridge are my # 1 favorites! Just found it extremely cool that you could play another game basically or ad characters 😂
