Legit their new GamePad 710 is so cool, I love the silver shell paired with the colored translucent plastic buttons. Their 310 before that was cool too, but I used mine so much that the left joystick's rubber has gotten rough and started to peel little chips of itself off Only complaint with them as a controller is that even if the inputs are shown on PC as numbers, you can't change the location of the face buttons when taken apart, and I wish I could because I'm more used to the Nintendo layout than the Microsoft layout they went with. The buttons have little plastic ridges that make it so you can't swap their positions, so you'd have to file them down to change where they are. I know it's for people who don't want to change their position who take it apart for other reasons, but I feel like it was an unnecessary restriction considering they're just labeled on actual software as being "00", "01", "02" and "03" anyway

Mystery button on the top of the Wii Classic Controller was used for a clear plastic attachment that shipped with it. The attachment would slide onto your Wiimote and allow you to wrap the cable around it. The controller would then be place onto mounting tabs on the top of the attacment.
The a/b button layout on the dogbone was emblematic of how attuned nintendo was to how we used the buttons on their controllers, especially coming off the nes. It was designed for thumb rolling, where your thumb would rest in between a and b and roll left or right as needed. It's worth noting that the GameCube controller also accommodated thumb rolling, as well as heel-toe imputs (tip of your thumb and lower joint of your thumb operated two separate buttons without needing to reposition). If you don't know what I'm talking about, just pay attention the next time you play (on _any_ controller) you'll very likey notice you do these movements all the time, we just tend not to think about it.
17:06 This was a "Clip point" to attach something to the controller. I know of only one accessory that used it; a mount to hold the Wii-mote and wrap the cord up. It wasn't a bad accessory.

9:32 Before the Dual Shock Analog Controller and the N64 Rumble Pak came the Dual Analog Controller: it had new (red) and old (green) analog modes, and it was the first non-steering wheel game controller to have force feedback with the vibration function, but Japanese models of the DAC only had it. That and Tobal 2, the first PlayStation game with Dual Analog Controller support (red analog), beat the N64 Rumble Pak and Star Fox 64 by a few days. A year earlier, Sony released a twin flightstick controller that had analog functionality called the Analog Joystick. Eventually, that analog mode returned in the DAC as the green analog mode, but was removed from the DualShock onwards to cut costs.
It’s still amazing to me how game boy advanced, Sony PlayStation 1 and the n64 where my first gaming experience as a child, and the fact that only one had native rumble in the controller is mind blowing to me, especially since rumble motors are the norm with most game controllers nowadays and I can’t see playing a game without em.
The Dual Shock wasn't a response to the N64 controller, Scott. They actually had several revisions of analog stick prior, one called the Dual Analog that you left out. It was revealed before the N64 controller and the original design had built in rumble (which was removed due to poor audience testing).
13:41 As much as Retro Fighters made improved counterparts of the NES, N64 and Dreamcast controllers, they made a GameCube controller where the +Control Pad (cross control pad) has the primary placement, repositioning the left analog stick to be on the symmetrical side as the right, C-stick. I recommend this controller for games like Tony Hawk 3-American Wasteland, Viewtiful Joe, Capcom vs. SNK 2, and even the shmups like Ikaruga and Castle Shikigami 2.
special edition controllers, i feel this pain. you wanna use them but end up only using them a little - still worth it and no-one can stop me. DS4 and Dual Sense though are a fresh new hell.
33:55 I had a pair of wireless GameStop controllers for my PS2 that my dad bought for me in about 2003 or 2004, and those things were flawless. I used them for at least a full decade before I was finally forced to throw them out due to a combination of stripped screw heads on the battery compartment covers, broken battery covers (the batteries went underneath the grips and they would get really hot after a while, so not the most comfortable thing to have against your palm). Absolutely rock solid controllers, I would buy another pair of them if I could find them again.
Here's an idea for a future compilation: "The Best and Worst of Video Games". It would feature the videos of Scott going through the best and worst ranked games of all time, as well as the Best Selling Games video and The Commercial Failure.
The Wiimote and nunchuk are surprisingly great for playing emulators for NES and SNES. You can just sit down with your hands lying on the couch on either side of you, pressing all the buttons and using the analog stick to play.
20:58 I might agree. I still use my 360 controller as my PC gaming controller, but primarily because it's a WIRED controller and doesn't use a thin, crappy wire to plug into your devices like the Xbox One controller does. I got the black version and primarily just messed around with Banjo-Kazooie on my tablet for about a week with it as my wireless controller and it has a really nice, solid feel and I love the matte covering they used on the controller overall. Beats the glossy finish of the Wii U Gamepad by miles. Wish there were a good shell replacement to get that kind of feel.
@12:38 the reason it is so big is because company responsible with creating multi layer PCB boards (Mitsumi Electric) refused to let Microsoft use their technology on the controller. So they had to have a single layout PCB taking a lot of empty space
Only Scott proudly shows off the greasiest, crustiest and most disgusting controllers from his personal collection. I always liked the ones where he's like "This. Is beautiful." And it's covered in fingerprints and hair lol.

Most all of them worked fine for me. That said, I agree on the Boomerang 64 and SuperPad 64 controllers.
The Wii Classic Controller mystery button is for the attachment that allowed you to connect your wii remote to the bottom of the controller to allow for motion control, you press it in for the controller to grab onto it like a claw, and to detach the attachment that the wii remote was held in your press it in again to release its grip
