The Resident Evil 2 and 3 Gamecube releases are technically REMASTERS and arguably the "best" way to play them. It's not immediately obvious because the games already used pre-rendered backgrounds, but all of the 3D models have been upscaled and smoothed out and the backgrounds are also higher resolution. All of the twitchy PS1 artifacting has been removed, and the 3D models now blend much better with the pre-rendered backgrounds.
I was surprised Scott didn't know about this. But yes the gamecube one's are the best way to play them or dreamcast they are also pretty clean and sharp

I think Dragon's Dogma is the perfect example of a game that had massive success from a re-release. It was a pretty niche title that didn't make any major waves during its release of the PS3/360 era but got a new lease on life with it's port to PC and newer consoles. It was because of that new lease on life we're even getting a chance at a sequel 11(+) years later

Has Scott ever covered the kingdom hearts series? So many rereleases and remakes, many of which added a lot of value. Kingdom hearts 1 had a rerelease in Japan shortly after with new features and a fully remade 3d version of the gameboy game Chain of Memories. The game was then was fully retextured with some added content for PS3 including all of the final mix changes for the first time in an international release. Then they did something very similar with the second game and another sidegame. They then made them playable in another rerelease collection for ps4 with both 1.5 + 2.5. Then they had another weird remake/remaster with KH 2.8. Then they they released all of that in a compilation also with kh3 and probably rereleased all of the above a few extra times.

When you talk about older style of games around the 29 minute mark I agree, I love ps2 and original Xbox graphics and their games, timesplitters is a trilogy I still love and I play halo 1 and 2 on the mcc in the original graphics and yes I love playing them in HD to see those dated graphics even more. I’m not as nostalgic towards 8 or 16 bit graphics in fact I think it’s over done today. Xbox 360 graphics with its ridiculous bloom, bump mapping and waxy look is also a favourite of mine, and that’s because those eras is what I played through as a kid/teenager. 2000-2010 was the best decade for me and I still play all those games to this day

Conker's Bad Fur Day is one of my favorite N64 games. I'll never forget when it came out and I saw the commercials on TV. And yeah, of course xbox ruined it......they ruin literally everything.
Why are you showing the PS3 version of Shadow of Colossus for your point about "they only made it widescreen" ? Bluepoint put a ton of work into getting that game to run 60 fps on a PS3 and sourcing higher quality assets. It was quite a feat at the time, and it's nice to have a pure version of the game with higher fidelity and performance, prior to them doing the full 1:1 remake.

Lastly, the actual performance was greatly improved on one of the most unorthodox system architectures in console history, not by brute force, but by code optimization.

We should differentiate remakes further between actual remakes, those that are as close to the original as possible, and reimaginations for remakes that alter more than what was absolutely necessary and actually create a new game that shares the base with the original but added or changed too much to be a remake anymore
Gotta slightly disagree with your take on RE4 HD versions. They look so much more crisp. I went back to the Wii version and it was like looking at a blurry, pixelated mess.

in defense of ff& REMAKE, the "remake" is a literal subtitle. as its the same story, being remade by the villain, so he can win at the end. so its, in truth, a sequel that tells the same overall story as the original, but with extra stuff to spruce up the world. with rebirth going even harder on that line.
This game is a remake in the same way JJ Abrams' Star Trek is one. It continues the story, but by going back in time with how the future affects their present (the Romulans and Spock in Trek, Sephiroth's ghost in FFVII)
I would love a remake of Assassin's Creed I and Resident Evil. Both games are iconic in their own ways and their sequels have got upgrades/quality of life improvements but neither original game is easily available on modern hardware (360 backwards compatibility notwithstanding). Also Scott was more understanding about why companies release remakes in the latter video. It's useful to understand how much cash the industry needs to stay afloat and it's a shame how few people recognise the economic pressures on companies and devs beyond 'capitalism lol'.

We should differentiate remakes further between actual remakes, those that are as close to the original as possible, and reimaginations for remakes that alter more than what was absolutely necessary and actually create a new game that shares the base with the original but added or changed too much to be a remake anymore
54:24 an HD version of smash Bros melee would be perfect with Waluigi in it
Don't forget, Resident Evil on PS1 had a "Director's Cut," which was the version I had.
And I remember EGM giving the RE Gamecube remakes bad reviews, and I was shocked, but then I realized it was because they were just lazy ports
Gotta slightly disagree with your take on RE4 HD versions. They look so much more crisp. I went back to the Wii version and it was like looking at a blurry, pixelated mess.
Best Remake of all time Resident Evil for GameCube. 2nd best Resident Evil 2 Remake. In my opinion
I love hearing Scott talk about an HD relelease with hope for something better than the game cube game. Instead we got the worst of both worlds.

I had no issue with the mario 64 ds touch control thankfully. I put more time in it than I did the 64 version

I want the twilight princess to be on the Nintendo switch out of spite and I don't know who or what I am deciding to spite.
It would definitely spite everyone who had to beg, borrow, or buy a Wii U with Twilight Princess just to upgrade the Wolf Link amiibo so they would have the fully levelled up wolf in BotW.

in defense of ff& REMAKE, the "remake" is a literal subtitle. as its the same story, being remade by the villain, so he can win at the end. so its, in truth, a sequel that tells the same overall story as the original, but with extra stuff to spruce up the world.
with rebirth going even harder on that line.
This game is a remake in the same way JJ Abrams' Star Trek is one.
It continues the story, but by going back in time with how the future affects their present (the Romulans and Spock in Trek, Sephiroth's ghost in FFVII)
I would love a remake of Assassin's Creed I and Resident Evil. Both games are iconic in their own ways and their sequels have got upgrades/quality of life improvements but neither original game is easily available on modern hardware (360 backwards compatibility notwithstanding).
Also Scott was more understanding about why companies release remakes in the latter video. It's useful to understand how much cash the industry needs to stay afloat and it's a shame how few people recognise the economic pressures on companies and devs beyond 'capitalism lol'.
