  • autismtreatmentcenter.org - Simon was diagnosed with autism and mental retardation. His parents were told that he would never talk or communicate. They found The Son-Rise Program, an autism treatment program developed by Barry Neil Kaufman and Samahria Lyte Kaufman, co-founders of The Option Institute and the Autism Treatment Center of America. Simons parents began a Son-Rise Program for him when he was only 2 years old. Now he is about to go to college and looks forward to getting married and raising a family one day. Listen to him tell his own story of what it was like to be autistic and his recovery from autism.

Kudos for the wonderful person you are! Do you think you needed to be "cured" of autism? I think we can learn to interact and communicate better--a worthy goal for any person--without losing the distinctive way of being that we have been given. Being loved is a tremendously healing force--you explained it so well!! And Son-Rise is a positive program, especially if started early as you were fortunate to do.

How severe? Any videos of before or evaluations by professionals as to the level of severity? Did he abuse himself?
