Great video. Not much out there on these VEA engines yet.

Just found the same loose hex bolt near the front crankshaft oil seal on my 2016 XC70 with the D4204T5 engine; the source of my recent oil leak. Tightened that bolt with a cheater bar to make sure it stays tight! Is there a Volvo TSB for this issue, I wonder! So I changed the front crankshaft oil seal needlessly!
A very big shout out to Baz for a great source of inspiration - and to think he only (briefly) mentioned his mate with the loose 'bung' on a similar job! Thank you, Baz!

Hello, I think I have the same issue. There is oil leaking on the right side of the engine where the crankshaft is located. I am suspecting it's the seal that is gone. Timing belt due for change next year so will do all at once. Have you managed to stop the leak after replacing the seal? I am reading online that a bad PCV valve could also cause this due to increased pressure in the engine and pushing oil via the weakest seal. An update on your fix will be much appreciated. Mine is an xc60 D4 2.0L 2014.

Hi, yes it stopped all leaks when I replaced it.i also checked the pressure by removing the oil cap and that was ok so have had no oil leaks since i changed it. You pcv valve is actually just a rubber gasket built into the plastic can cover on the d4 engine so its easy to check if its blocked by removing the small rubber pipe connected to your air intake pipe

Hello! Thanks for the great video. Which diagnostic tool do you use in the video? And what do you do with the little gear that is loose? Do you tighten the New timing belt with the small gear. Is it not enough to tighten the timing belt with the timing belt tensioner? Thanks! From Tommy Bertilsson from Sweden

    Perfect video.
Do I need to lock the camshaft and the fuel pump?

Hello, I replaced the crankshaft seal but I have a bigger leak than before, I think the seal was installed incorrectly, did you put oil on the Spi seal for assembly? I will try with the bottle. Kind regards

Hi there i have a 2010 xc60 Volvo front passenger rim is full of oil where do you think the oil leaking is coming from i took it to mechanic about a month ago and he couldn't tell me where the leak was coming from he was talking about to take it somewhere to get it power washed and then to take it back to him "what a mechanic" he couldn't diagnose the problem then charged me $80 i was so pissed I wanted to hurt the guy please let me know what you think the problem is i would really appreciate it.

Never seen an oil leak on the rims. sounds like you're drift knot damask has failed and is splashing the fat all around the rims. it's a thicc greenish fat used in drive knots for better lubrications. i've replaced many of them. should look into that. might be split in the boot or the clamp has failed! sorry for my bad english, lol
