Fond memories of our trip north and back, yes by 2nd class too.
Loved the service of setting up the beds, snacks that we picked up, yes not having a table when dinner arrived was a downer. All the same loved it.
The train is slow, we passed Ayadoya just north of Bangkok, wished we could make a break there.
Being oldies we booked the lower bunks, the space is more comfortable, the windows make a big difference and our bags went conveniently below the bunk.
I would recommend it, fun, so do make advance bookings for a lower bunk on your way back- we did on the station counters near the exit on your left.
    Cheers and enjoy!

I will never forget my trip to ChiangMai from the train to the hotel, temples and Elephant sanctuary, I recommend Hotel Golden Bell and Happy Home Elephant Sanctuary, i went with my Thai girlfriend and we both fit in the lower bunk and the; we could see out the window, very cozy

Your videos are great. And you are young my friend. Stop calling yourself old. You are very young. I'm pushing 60 now and I still don't consider myself old. Getting old is a state of mind. Don't allow yourself to think or talk that way.
Also I know you don't consider yourself a vlogger but I'd like you to know that you're better at it than most people and I watch a lot of different vlogs. So you may as well take that as a huge compliment and do with it what you want. But you could do very well just traveling around and doing videos like this from time to time. You've got the gift.

Thanks for sharing a few tips about the sleeper train BKk-CM, sounds like a good and relaxing way to reach CM, it beats driving, riding a bus, or flying, I hate the airport stress; it is definitely for my bucket list with my family. I have been tempted to try the train connection BKK - BR, my wife is not keen, I travelled one year non stop across Europe with a doctored eurorail pass in my wild youth, it was a memorable journey. The Dtac 1 year internet is an excellent bargain, it is noted for the next trip and the in-laws 😊. I hope your car behaves after the last repairs.

i love the trains in thailand. even the old wooden bench seat carriages with the smell of diesel exhaust and the hot thai air blasting through the open windows. only for a couple hours max though 😅. how rapidly thailand and especially bangkok is expanding its transport network does remind me of japan. it'll take some time but the train will be the way to get around thailand for everyone, hope the government delivers on that announced High speed rail section to connect ubon to korat and onward to bangkok, will certainly make it easier for me and my partner travelling to sisaket

I first took the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in 2016. Such fun memories! We were able to get the first class sleeper, and even though a quick flight would have been easy, we are so glad we took the train! It was a unique way to experience something less common and we had a great time. Looking forward to doing it again sometime soon - highly recommend you give it a shot if you're new to traveling around Thailand. ❤

Man that is the way to go! Driving 16 hours during flood season or this? No brainer. You can relax, get food delivered plus there are clean toilets! 😂 Can't guarantee that via car, plus cost for gas, etc must be similar. Nice tour. Thanks and enjoy the trip!

I made that same trip way back in 2004. My how things have changed! For the better, I must say. If I recall correctly there was no AC and the toilet just had a hole in the bottom that dropped your droppings onto the tracks. I am very happy for Thailand and its progress towards a more first world country. I plan on visiting later this year now that I am retired. I may even spend 3-6 months there! I love that place! Keep up the great work, I love your channel!

For my thoughts, The train looks perfect by the gates with the toilet & the food mart that you just went to introduce. Including the way you're on your bed, it makes sense for me is like feeling enjoying reminding how it feels while I'm on the train before and after. Also taking time to get images of the cityscapes, while I'm like you're going to lay down on the bed too. That's the best way for me to know how you give the points to the train for your 2 days.

That was really a very modern train. I did the sleeper train from Phitsanulok to Don Muong several times and had older trains with 3 beds with a ladder to get up. Contrary to Europe you sleep in Thailand along the train and not cross to the the train. Was interesting and yes, I could sleep. The downside was only that the light is not dimmed what you can do on European sleeper trains.

Hey Ryan, a half dozen years ago, I lived in Korat and was going on a trip back to the U.S. and took a sleeper train down to Bangkok. My friend and I had a room with an upper and lower bunk. I slept real solid all the way to Bangkok. It wasn't that expensive, I don't remember how much but it was pretty cheap. It's a good way to travel if you have the time. ❤

I love the sleeper train! (2nd class.) But miss the old Banglanphu station. There's a hostel that's open all night that you can leave the airport, get dropped off there, walk to Banglanphu later and catch a train. Much nicer than a 2nd flight to C.M. I suppose there's something similar at the new RR station but Banglanphu had class.

I haven't done it for years but definitely found the lower berth much more comfortable. Never found it easy to sleep on a train because of the movement and noise, even with earplugs. First class is not much different. The main thing I noticed is that the bottom two seats folded into a bed as well. Two people can sit in the chairs and at bed time the staff pull down the top into the second bed. That's why you had a seat number and top/bottom designation for bed time. The material is slightly nicer in the first class. Very basic differences. I think mainly the age of the car itself but layout is very similar. Cheers.
Crap this is the edit lol. I shoulda waited 5 min to comment. It's exactly the same without the older velvet material.
