    Hypnosis does go through substitute, yes. So does Thunder Wave. It prevents freeze, burn, poison, direct confusion and indirect paralysis.

      @GameMiestro День назад +4

      Notably Substitute was eventually modified to work at blocking these moves in Pokemon Stadium, which while not specifically relevant here due to being released after the 1997 tournament has led to the unusual situation where the "updated" Gen 1 battle system is treated as it's own side metagame ("Stadium OU") and the standard RBY ladder on Smogon still uses handheld cartridge mechanics.

    the mode only 'sucks' cause of evasion clause being removed and the 30% freeze chance. i think it could be interesting to have the 'bring 6 pick 3' format for gen one without the busted jank rules of of a tournament older than most modern pokemon fans

    If you’re asking for suggestions on future videos, I really enjoyed the doubles random battles to the top - been a while since we saw any of that.

    4:34 they shouldn't be able to horn drill you, because you're faster

  • @jackwall7054

    Could they have horn drilled Tauros or would it not have worked because rhydon is slower?
    Fun video nonetheless, I find gen 1 competitive really interesting

    • @MrSyltphademus
      @MrSyltphademus День назад +5

      Correct, in Gen 1 all OHKO moves will automatically fail if you are slower than the target.

    I know it sounds stupid but I would love to see a game of metronome battle. The meta game is kinda funny even if you dont have control over much.

  • @Juniper_Rose
    @Juniper_Rose 12 часов назад

    wait, wouldn't rhydon be unable to ohko, since tauros is faster and that's how ohkos work in gen 1?

    I've always considered PERSONALLY, gen 1 to be the worst gen for competitive mons because of how RNG based and "repetitive" it feels. What do people think of it? I've always been genuinely curious to know.

    • @arikorma9059
      @arikorma9059 День назад +5

      Personally anything before physical/special split is like beta version for me. Some mons is fucked because their type and stat doesn't allign. But if i have to rank Gen 3 > Gen 1 > Gen 2.

    • @wingdinggaster2480
      @wingdinggaster2480 День назад

      @@arikorma9059 oh yeah, I definitely agree. I think everything had just a very repetitive playstyle, like, while I do enjoy ADV, you end up going against the same teams over and over again which makes eit super repetitive imo

      @waves9515 День назад +7

      As someone who’s played a lot of Smogon tours for old gens in the past, I don’t think there’s really an objective “worst” gen. It just comes down to preference.
      Even in the hax fiesta known as RBY OU, the better player will win the vast majority of the time. Players like Troller, ABR, and Serpi still completely wipe the floor with everyone who isn’t at that level.

    • @beaky8138
      @beaky8138 День назад

      RBY OU is okay, but it's a different game. It is a game of probabilities, much more than other generations. A rough order probably looks something like 3 > 8 > 2 > 7 > 1 > 4 > 5 > 6 for me.

    • @aZiireS
      @aZiireS 20 часов назад +1

      I loved playing RBY OU back in the day because it was not as stall heavy as GSC or 386. Unfortunately most people did never really dive into the metagame and just considered it a hax fiesta. Don't get me wrong, there is certainly more luck involved but every decision matters way more than in other metas. Also smaller decisions around status moves matter way more, because there is way more gravity behind the wrong Pokemon getting slept or paralyzed. That was also the reason why back in the day players like VIL, Arkani or Justin would repeadetly win smogon tours or RBY tournaments.
      The first battle here is a good example. You know you have the slower Jynx so you need to lead Electrode and when the opponent reveals Rhydon you know your Electrode is useless so you have to tank the Lovely Kiss with it. Don't do that and you have essentially lost.

      I doubt anyone would argue against that
      Worst gen for competitive combined with one of the worst format concepts.

  • @NineConsonants
    @NineConsonants День назад +2

    I like the idea of having different level pokemon. Like if a modern day VGC format where they're level 50 instead of 100, but your team is comprised of pokemon level 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55. It's cool seeing teams where just by looking at levels you can see which pokemon is favored, but it could make the math of "pokemon A's modest overheat can ohko pokemon B" because now with all the level variance it just becomes so complicated that it's almost unpredictable.

    • @RATMOGS
      @RATMOGS 15 часов назад

      it's not that complex lol especially when you consider the lack of IV variance or EV spreads
