Yeah Garchomp has been in every game after diamond and pearl I can't imagine a new pokemon game without Garchomp 😂(well if you count let's go then I guess not)
16:24 Komala spends the entire time sleeping. Siestas (basically afternoon naps) are a massive part of spanish culture, it's so big there'sbeven a stereotype about us being lazy and sleeping all the time, you know, like Komala.
Another fun fact regarding tea in the UK: it was Charles II's wife, Catherine of Braganza - a Portuguese princess, who popularized drinking tea in Britain during her time as Queen consort
I feel like a good chunk of these Pokémon don't need to be explained for why they're in Paldea, but instead why they're in Kitakami and Blueberry Academy. The latter is easy: humans put them there for research as it's a man-made environment built for education.
1 thing that often bugs me is the fact even with how most of the Pokemon do tend to fit in Paldea, there others more that would most likely also fit this region as well. Such as for some like: 1. Mandibuzz: Spain is Europe's stronghold, hosting 90% of the European vulture populations and that there is some dessert settings in Paldea that would make sense for Vullaby & Mandibuzz to fit in. 2. Maractus: Same goes this Maractus for it being also a cactus Pokemon as well. 3. Rapidash: Spain is also known for their Spanish horses and the fact they're not in Paldea confuses still. And 4. Ludicolo: This one is just self explanatory cause of what it's design is more likely based upon.
I feel like some of these pokemon were added "before the DLCs" because they have some connection to Unova and BB Academy is based on Unova now we're getting Legends Z-A. Also as I'm writing this I had to pause the video because I am befuddled! That Koala diss was savage!
In all fairness, Pokemon like Komala would never be able to return ever if they tried to only choose ones that fit well. Some are just based on things that are too area specific for that. Like it's great that they try and it works most of the time, but I don't think it's possible for every mon to fit the region without it feeling samey.
"Pokemon like Komala would never be able to return ever if they tried to only choose ones that fit well" Lmao this guy forgot about the entire concept of the Safari zone.
Oricorios is only found as Balle Style in the Paldean Wilds, Sensu in the Kitakami Wilds and Pa'u in Blueberry academy. It and the Tynamo line are the only pokemon that are in all three pokedexes.
My guess with Qwilfish is that the devs knew that players would want to use all the new Hisui Pokemon competitively when Home was updated, so their base forms are all in Paldea already since regional forms get loaded in the same dex file. Like if you have Growlithe in the dex, Hisuian Growlithe is likely in the files too. Thus, every Hisui Pokemon's modern equivalent is here somewhere, Stantler, Qwilfish, Ursaring, Electrode, etc.
Every pokemon that got a hisuian form/evolution in legends arceus were featured in their base forms in the paldea region. Which explains stuff like Qwilfish
15:00 the reason for qwilfish can also be purely mechanical, as they brought all of the pokemon with hisuian forms to be able to move those forms to a main game
Deep Pokemon lore: Yay! Sasha the cat appears: YAY!!! I like the underwater effect on your voice used for Lumineon. I get Oricorio’s Baile form in Paldea, but its Pom-Pom form confuses me. I guess because the other forms fit so well for the DLC.
Komala is not a strech. Eucaliptus has basically become a meme in Galicia(northern Spain) for the absurd amount of trees planted in the last half century. It's actually a pretty big deal here, and the lack of proper managment has greatly endangared the native forests. You can see them everywhere nowadays. If only we got the koalas too...
I have a headcannon that there was a pokemon equivalent of the Roman Empire and they really liked falinks, they included them in their teams and armies frequently and introduced them to places they used to not live before. and so falinks can be found all across the mediterranian(or the pokemon version of it)
I'd say that serves as even more proof that Tyranitar is there because of popularity. It is imported from Japan and people love it immediately, merchandise pops up everywhere in Paldea and in the far future, scientists create Iron Thorns as a parallel of the real world's Mechagodzilla.
The Sudowoodo entry got me thinking; do you reckon we can tell what’s ’not’ going to be the next generation by seeing who’s in the Pokédex office the previous one? E.g. Sudowoodo is here so Gen X probably won’t be Greece or Germany; Camerupt means not Northern Africa; Komala not Australia, etc. I don’t know if there’s any precedent for that
There's also the fact that there always has to be at least 1 pokemon with weather setting abilities for competitive reasons. That can easily explain why hippowdown/tyranitar are there
I think Garchomp could fit in the popular category given it’s been recognized as Cynthia’s Ace and has been seen as notable enough to get a Wikipedia Page.
The Fidough what we know in love is likely more of Milcery coated in dough. So if you're asking me, I would love to see the Dachsbun of Every Type. As someone who loves Komala and Qwilfish despite whether they “fit in” the best or not. I’m still glad they’re here as they’re two of my favorite Pokémon lol
I think another good reason for Tyranitar is because of rivalry bias. It’s why Oranguru (which is the same but on a version exclusives level), is here. It works as a Kaiju pairing with Baxcalibur.
You could argue that Tyranitar is also here because of Iron Thorns, like devs came up with Iron Thorns and then decided that if they were gonna have this MechaGodzilla like Pokémon they might as well add the Godzilla like Pokémon to the game to it wouldn’t be weird to have one without the other.
Maybe you could argue that Tyranitar is in Paldea because The Iberian Penninsula is a very rocky and mountainous place, and the evolution line needs to eat mountains to evolve, hence why they are drawn to Paldea
19:18 The way I see it, New Zealand would be either DLC or postgame content to an Australia based region. Ooh, we could get a Khangeskhan prevolution with male forms and split evos maybe? I like that most Pokémon have a reason, however loose, but in the cases they don't, they shouldn't be wild, only trade exclusives, that way, if you want a popular Mon, you can get it, but you get to explore new mons.
15:00 Qwilfish is here because it got a new form in Legends Arceus. Cross promotion, baby! (Or just wanting the new forms to be able to be used in a game with the traditional battle style)
I guess for Tyranitar there is also how GodIlla is very much a creature of radiation and Spain had it's own nuclear accident with the Palomares Incident.
Oricorio is here not just because of flamenco dancers being the inspiration for the Baile style (it was btw). Portugal had a HUGE cultural and historical influence/impact on Hawaii. A lot of Native Hawaiians nowadays have at least partial Portuguese heritage, my spouse and his family included. There are so many families with Portuguese in them that it’s got slang for it that’s over a century old. Portugal had a lot of business with Hawaii.
I can see Unova Pokémon in a region like New Zealand. There’s a decent amount of influence our country gets from the US, so Pokémon like Woobat and Swoobat would fit. We do have native species of bats, so maybe regional variants of those would work well. There are closer connections to Alola but Unova still counts lol
With every pseudo legendary being in SV, I feel like they're all just in the popular category now. All of them were eventually included with SWSH, so it only feels like that's the trend they're going to follow
It'd be funny if New Zealand was the NEXT "Unova" though maybe not 151 brand new pokemon but could you imagine just... you're *just* getting new pokemon until like... mid/post-game
0:29 I've been playing Pokémon Sword recently to complete the dex, and I'm pretty sure that Espurr is in Galar's Wild Area - so why does it get the "Missing" tag?
I agree we're due for a southern-hemisphere-based region, though I'd personally prefer one based on Australia or South Africa. Feel like there's more variety of fauna there for new mons. I'll grant you a moa Pokemon would be pretty cool, but if your land is most famous from a fauna perspective for having an enormous amount of sheep? Yeah, I like them as much as the next guy, but a region of mostly Mareep and Wooloo would not be that fun.
Not every pokemon is in the region for theming, I'm pretty sure some are there just because. I figured Komala is just there because it fits the general Mediterranean / subtropical vibe
I wanna believe the "Japanese import" reasoning for Tyranitar to be there, cause it'd also explain why Baxcalibur is there too. Two presumably opposite kaijus imported by Japan makes sense to me
Oricorio and Camerupt could be explained because of the Canary Islands. The Pom-Pom style Oricorio resembles a canary bird, a popular species of pet bird from this islands, and the eastern island of Lanzarote is wellknown for the camel trips across the famous volcanos of Timanfaya. Tyranitar might be because Spain really adores anime and japanese culture in general, and Komala... is the nap Pokémon. I don't have any idea why Beartic is there. Funny enough many Pokémon introduce in Paldean are african themed.
Just wanted to mention that the Nacli family was likely added because Game Freak did their homework. Minecraft is a huge part of Spanish internet culture; back then it reached a point where being a Minecraft youtuber/streamer was considered a legit career choice in Spain. Memes would pop up about "x thing in Spain", where said thing would have a Minecraft aesthetic; not unlike the "x thing in Australia" meme having things upside down.
I feel like the best candidate for a southern hemisphere region would be somewhere in South America. I feel like the vibes are closer to what they'd do.
On Garchomp: Garchomp is partially inspired by a jet fighter, a kind of airplane, and do you know where the inventor or airplanes comes from?
