As a mere mortal who has never been higher than 1400 this is actually crazy, i will probably never have a say and have to rely on the good will of better players 😢
it takes time but stay strong brother, i got my first ou susreqs in the volcarona sustest after 4 years of playing and had to go 33-6 for it iirc. just keep playing and ask for help with builds or analysing replays or live plays and youll get there over time
That's quite lucky that despite their efforts, none of the previous votes were meaningfully swayed by this behavior. I could only imagine what chaos could have been.
As mentioned around 7:00 they did find that this had happened in previous suspect tests as well but not in a way that would change the results. As far as other people doing this they're being stricter about checking now and have not found any others yet (I assume going off IP addresses which admittedly isn't perfect but likely enough to dissuade any that would try)
I see that, to a certain extent, banning pokemon is reasonable for the overall enjoyment of the game. There is a point, however, where the most annoying pokemon will just be replaced by the next most annoying pokemon and where a tier becomes "overbalanced". IMO that point was reached with tiers such as UUBL etc. The meta of other games that have been untouched by regulations for years/decades can actually be quite versatile and regularly show how things that initially seem very overbearing can actually be reasonably dealt with. I'm not against banning many pokemon in any tier, but perhaps to be more patient on making such calls to avoid overregulation. Listening to the players first instinctual requests for bans does not always result in a better experience long term.
Honestly not everything smogon does I like, but that's OK. The fact that people are putting in the time to make a meta game that frankly isn't supported by the developers is that me of the coolest things for a game like this. It gives me old mtg vibes were some homebrew formats were just made cause people had an idea of how to use the cards in a new way.
the gloves didnt fit kyurem, but they guessed the wrong set of gloves. after all we know kyurem has too many sets to guess which set it is first try, and then we get swept.
It was pretty wild of people to also go conspiracy theory on Finchinator when uncovering all of this actually meant he didn't get what he voted for lol
How can we be sure that Smogon's voting system isn't flawed to begin with? Only high ranking players are allowed to vote: players who are the best at using the suspected Pkmn in question, the ones who are most likely to be enjoying the op Pkmn being meta. They are quite literally shaping the game around hyper offense and nothing can be done because those same players use the broken stuff to secure a high rank and make sure it stays that way. If you don't like the meta that was decided by them, who also prevent the bans because they place excuses (nahh, Tera is a fun mechanic guys, we can't ban the generational mechanic), you are at a disadvantage. If you want changes to happen, you are forced to play a game you don't like, just to get a chance to voice your opinion through a vote that can still go nowhere because people keep unbanning things.
the high ranking players need to play against the overpowered pokemon being used the best too they're also the ones experiencing it at its most painful to play against stall players are the ones who want to keep kyurem the most since the more centralized the offensive powerhouses, the easier it is to prepare for them since you know exactly which mons are going to appear kyurem hurts balance the most since those players can't have defensive answers to everything but also get demolished by this wallbreaker that has five billion sets to kill everything
Once again: Kyurem has had more fun than any other box legendary in history... They sit there on ubers while the ice boy gets all the glory and clout one floor below.
1:17 Smogon has existed since fairly early in Gen 3. It largely grew out of precursor forums that were active even before the Western release of Ruby and Sapphire. Many of the old guard Smogon community were GSC players on those ancient text-based battling sims.
I am so mixed about this For one hand, I feel glad for Kyurem because they were freed by justified reasons, but on the other hand I was one of the people that agrees it should be banned because it simply has so much set variety you cannot answer it effectively. It feels like living in Gen 5 OU during the time Genesect was allowed.
I've been playing for over four years now and I've genuinely always found it strange that you don't need to register suspect alts on smogon too, this gets done for ladder tours do prevent any shenanigans of trying all over or taking multiple spots why not here? Retrying for suspects has always been alright, but otherwise the same offenses are punishable for both. And honestly, retrying is not a feature it's a bug of rating voltality as you might run into gxe issues regardless of your strength if you play too many suspect testers and/or get unlucky a few too many times, it happens. But I thought the point of suspects was to show over a sufficiently large number of games that you're consistently strong and can force your way up the rating ladder. Having the ability to make new accounts until you get your rating in sufficiently few games just means the standards lower themselves, it's easier to luck through thirty games after your tenth try than having a 24-10 record to correct to still make reqs somehow
Shut the fuck up. This is very different. Stop whining about democracy. “Oh boohoo only 59% of people disagree my political view, we must prioritize the status quo over the will of the people”. Oohhhh I have a smart idea. Changing the US president is a big deal right? A large change in the status quo? How about this? Any new candidate has to win 60% of the vote to beat the candidate who’s running for reelection. The people wanted it. If you’re against democracy, that’s fine, but admit it. Admit your an authoritarian left wing ideologue willing to push your views onto the majority

I can attest someone has been voting in the name of multiple deceased relatives of mine to BAN Kyurem. I'm kept up at night, wondering if Iron Mugulis is involved and if he had something to do with their deaths in the first place.
It seems that Iron Mugulis has begun its plot to gradually ban OU threats so that it can place its cohort, Great Neck, as undisputed leader of the format. Who knows what Iron Mugulis and his cronies aim to accomplish with this, but it can't be anything good. Kyurem, I apologize on behalf of the community for our negligent behavior.
“How is this even possible? How could this have happened?” >>proceeds to name the most obvious method known to man 😭 Im sitting here thinking surely it was some deeper scandal than this with the way you were describing it lol
Pokemon Online, Net Battle, Shoddy Battle, and Smogon were SUPER niche back then. They are hella mainstream these days (well, showdown and smogon are). This kind of behavior will only increase in frequency. Now there is tik tok and youtube fame to be gained by ranking high. Smogon will either have to start requiring stuff like a government issued ID to vote (which will still not solve the ghosting problem, let alone AI decision making tools which will only get more popular/better) or move on to only banning based on Council voting, which nobody likes. It's honestly a tricky situation.
Okay obvious issues aside, did he confess he did it? Because "IP checking" doesn't do shit. I could sit in university, log into university Wi-Fi, have 30 friends do the same. If we then all 30 of us were to at the same time start watching a twitch streamer for example, who at that moment had 5 viewers, you know what woudl happen? He'd have 35 viewers then? Nope, he'd have 6 viewers. And to everyone outside of university network, all of us 30 people would look the same, all having the same outside IP adress. That means if 11 destinctly different people living in the same student dorm, using the same Wi-Fi, had one showdown account each (and a smogon account of course), to everyone outside the dorm network they'd look like one person, using the same IP. Unless smogon manages to track not only the IP but also the port (which doesn't help anyway, since today I might use port 347 and tomorrow logging in from the same device I'd have port 529 etc) or operate in an at least grey area afaik of digging up your MAC-adress (and even then 2 people could have each their own acc on a shared device, but at that point it's more or less impossible to distinguish really) there is no way for them to tell for sure that this was the same person and not just different people accessing showdown from the same home network.
they were all well known players and they already know what their ip addresses were isnt it suspicious if they all had different ip addresses during tournaments then they do when getting suspect reqs

you’ll get there someday brother
it takes time but stay strong brother, i got my first ou susreqs in the volcarona sustest after 4 years of playing and had to go 33-6 for it iirc. just keep playing and ask for help with builds or analysing replays or live plays and youll get there over time
Use a high level sample team. Practice it and youll clear it easy
That's quite lucky that despite their efforts, none of the previous votes were meaningfully swayed by this behavior. I could only imagine what chaos could have been.
I wonder if this has happened before and just gone unnoticed
My boi Kyurem wouldn't hurt a fly
STOP THE COUNT!!!
11 separate accounts bruh 💀 Next level unemployed behaviour
Honestly not everything smogon does I like, but that's OK. The fact that people are putting in the time to make a meta game that frankly isn't supported by the developers is that me of the coolest things for a game like this. It gives me old mtg vibes were some homebrew formats were just made cause people had an idea of how to use the cards in a new way.
Sane this is not.
I can't believe Gliscor would do this
the gloves didnt fit kyurem, but they guessed the wrong set of gloves. after all we know kyurem has too many sets to guess which set it is first try, and then we get swept.
If the glove doesn't fit, you MUST acquit.
6:31 Achksually 🤓 FunBro is banned in anything goes So therefore Slowbro is the most broken Pokémon of all times.
Sorry Kyurem...
It was pretty wild of people to also go conspiracy theory on Finchinator when uncovering all of this actually meant he didn't get what he voted for lol
I need a kingambit recount
Jimothy is the incarnation of chivalry and good vibes, while Iron Mugulis is the incarnation of depravity and debauchery
If you want changes to happen, you are forced to play a game you don't like, just to get a chance to voice your opinion through a vote that can still go nowhere because people keep unbanning things.
the high ranking players need to play against the overpowered pokemon being used the best too
they're also the ones experiencing it at its most painful to play against
stall players are the ones who want to keep kyurem the most since the more centralized the offensive powerhouses, the easier it is to prepare for them since you know exactly which mons are going to appear
kyurem hurts balance the most since those players can't have defensive answers to everything but also get demolished by this wallbreaker that has five billion sets to kill everything
Once again: Kyurem has had more fun than any other box legendary in history...
They sit there on ubers while the ice boy gets all the glory and clout one floor below.
There's a good reason most other competitive games don't have community bans like Smogon does, Smogon is just run being by a bunch of babies.
The competitive integrity of turn based games in general is always a bit iffy. It's not like you have a webcam in front of the opponent playing chess.
Since we already dived into politics now, where was Iron Mugulis when JFK was shot? Just asking
1:17 Smogon has existed since fairly early in Gen 3. It largely grew out of precursor forums that were active even before the Western release of Ruby and Sapphire. Many of the old guard Smogon community were GSC players on those ancient text-based battling sims.
You don’t even need to do ghosting. You can just use a non-static VPN IP and do it
at least most VPNs are locked on showdown I think
they're eating the rockruffs, they're eating the delcatties
Whoever got reqs on 11 accounts gets a round of applause from me for a half a second then they should reconsider their purpose in life.
I'm sorry, Kyurem, this is insane.
Imagine having a beef with a fictional dragon
All memes aside, this is actually insane.
Looks like Gliscor was behind this.
Sorry
I need "the election was stolen" memes.
a real Smogon Moment
I am so mixed about this
For one hand, I feel glad for Kyurem because they were freed by justified reasons, but on the other hand I was one of the people that agrees it should be banned because it simply has so much set variety you cannot answer it effectively.
3:02 that's what always mesmerizes me about brexit
Shut the fuck up. This is very different. Stop whining about democracy. “Oh boohoo only 59% of people disagree my political view, we must prioritize the status quo over the will of the people”.
Oohhhh I have a smart idea. Changing the US president is a big deal right? A large change in the status quo? How about this? Any new candidate has to win 60% of the vote to beat the candidate who’s running for reelection.
The people wanted it. If you’re against democracy, that’s fine, but admit it. Admit your an authoritarian left wing ideologue willing to push your views onto the majority
I'm sorry, Kyurem, I won't do it again.
Imagine being a hater to this degree... FOR KYUREM of all options...
"I'm so sowwy daddy kyuwem"
👉👈🥺
IM SO SORRY KYUREM!!!!
still not convinced it wasn't all JustinRPG, dude loves reshiram (uiiii loooovvvvveeee yooooyuuuu reshiraaammmmm) and would do what it takes to get kyurum out
its been like 6 hours your dedication is crazy
In a nutshell: this person was suffering a MAJOR skill issue
If he got reqs 11 times it's not really an issue of skill
It's more like an issue of no life
I can attest someone has been voting in the name of multiple deceased relatives of mine to BAN Kyurem. I'm kept up at night, wondering if Iron Mugulis is involved and if he had something to do with their deaths in the first place.
"They're an animal... And I slaughtered them like an animal. I hate them. I HATE THEM!"
- That one guy probably
It seems that Iron Mugulis has begun its plot to gradually ban OU threats so that it can place its cohort, Great Neck, as undisputed leader of the format. Who knows what Iron Mugulis and his cronies aim to accomplish with this, but it can't be anything good.
Kyurem, I apologize on behalf of the community for our negligent behavior.
The agency sends it's regards
the whole 'just play ubers' argument is bad as a lot of the OU banlist mons are unusable garbage there and even on UUubers. Just leaves em at limbo.
4:25 this is the real question cuz how do you deal with that
3:00 but Jimothy, its just an advisory suspect test (now activate Article 66)
The bulky ground type lobby finally exposed
“How is this even possible? How could this have happened?”
>>proceeds to name the most obvious method known to man 😭
Im sitting here thinking surely it was some deeper scandal than this with the way you were describing it lol
Unless smogon manages to track not only the IP but also the port (which doesn't help anyway, since today I might use port 347 and tomorrow logging in from the same device I'd have port 529 etc) or operate in an at least grey area afaik of digging up your MAC-adress (and even then 2 people could have each their own acc on a shared device, but at that point it's more or less impossible to distinguish really) there is no way for them to tell for sure that this was the same person and not just different people accessing showdown from the same home network.
they were all well known players and they already know what their ip addresses were
isnt it suspicious if they all had different ip addresses during tournaments then they do when getting suspect reqs
Kyruem got all the votes he needed to be banned, in the middle of the night, all at once. 😔
This has to be thr work of Iron Mugulis
Sorry, Kyurem
I miss the elaborate stories of interaction reminders with Iron Mugulis and Old Money and the like
I don't think I've ever seen someone hate a Pokémon this much
