Growing up in rural Canada I had a neighbor who kept exotic animals from an old circus. My Mom and aunt always claimed he had a full roster of retired animals on his farm. Apparently my grandfather helped him find his blind lion in the woods, and my Mom once found a leopard in the barn. By the time I was born he only had a Zebra and a flock of Peacocks. Having encountered peacocks around my farm and nearby woods it never occurred to me that peacocks weren't native to Canada until seeing this video. I always knew the birds were special but I really was lucky to have seen them as much as I did growing up.
They're bred in captivity, they're definitely not going to go extinct anytime soon since we would have enough of the population to be able to reintroduce should anything happen to those in the wild
If you’ve been within a mile of a peacock it is far more than a mere meow. It is extremely loud and even annoying. It may sound a bit like a cat but only a cat that also has an enormous amplifier and speaker.
Overall a good video but like most documentary it rearly explain why female peahen is doll color, it's because they need to be camouflage when incubating eggs and rearing chicks.
They are very beautiful birds, I was once in Florida and there was this event where you can meet macaws and other birds it was like a jungle forest place in Florida, and there was a Peacock in a tree and it flew down, I’ve never seen a Peacock so close up in my life. There were SO many Peacocks there, females and males. There were beautiful Macaws there too! I love Peacocks!!
Around the Brandon FL area there are quite a few that are wild. No one messes with them (at least when I lived there) with one male being named "Kyle" but a neighborhood I lived in. My grandparents kept a couple as well. Remember my grandfather telling me to never turn your back on them in close proximity, though. Allegedly they will attack.
Their calls sound like a cute kitty calling it’s mama for food 😭🥺😍 I am forever in total and absolute awe about this & many other creations of the Most High 😩 God really said “here’s a piece of paradise for my children” 😭😭😭😭🤩🥺🥰
I worked with a pair of green peafowl. The females are similar in color to the males, but without the fancy tail feathers. The males shed their fancy long feathers after nesting season. Hey- they have already romanced the ladies, so why carry around all of the extra weight? Our male would still fan out his tail to impress our female when he only had a few scraggly-looking tail feathers left. She was not impressed. They did have a pair of chicks during the third year that I worked with them, and she was a VERY protective mamma!
Owls have 2 toes in front, 2 in back, like parrots (fact stated incorrectly in this video). Also, peafowl can swim. Webbed feet does not make a difference. Turkeys and chickens can swim as well, if anyone wondered. They paddle like ducks, just without webbed feet. Their feathers keep them from sinking.
Owl talons aren't really like parrot feet, Owl talons are designed as three toes facing forward, one toe facing back, But Owls can rotate one of their forward facing toes to the back.
