I am honestly shocked that this worked! I paid $190 for a reconditioned unit when mine had the blinking red light and that unit just did the same thing. I kept my old unit in the hopes that I might be able to take it apart and fix it. So, I tried this and my granddaughter is watching Netflix on it as we speak! Thank you so very much for the post.
I just wanted to say that I just recently experienced the YLOD. My Playstation 3 was one of the original 80 GB systems. I've had it for 7 years to the day when it started the YLOD. I had the same situation as you did. A game in the console and my precious data held hostage. I looked up a lot of videos and read a lot of forums on the subject and was worried that I was going to be forced to disassemble my PS3 and reapply the thermal paste to the CPU and GPU to get my data and game back. I saw this video and decided to give it a try. It took me 3 different attempts to get it to finally work. The first time I heated it for 15 minutes and cooled it for 20 just like the video but it didn't work. I think it's because my machine didn't get hot enough. So for the second try I put it in a box with a towel over it. Heated it for 15 minutes and cooled it for 20 minutes (towel removed from the box during the cooling process). It came on long enough to get the game out and then promptly started the YLOD again. For the third attempt I once again used the box and towel but this time heated it for 20 minutes, cooled it for 10 minutes in the box (the towel removed), took it out of the box and cooled it for another 15 minutes, placed it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, and lastly took it out of the refrigerator and let it air cool for another 15 minutes. What can I say? I wanted it to be completely cooled. So far it's been working fine. I was able to sync my trophies and move my data to a USB. I'm on my way to buy a new PS3. I just wanted to thank you for this video. It really did help me out and for anyone who tries the steps in the video and it doesn't work the first time try it a couple more times and vary your heating times. It might be that you're not getting your system hot enough for this to work. Also make sure that the machine is completely cool before start up. Thanks again and God bless.
I know a lot of the comments are looking for details past a single “it worked!” comment so here’s mine- it did work, and my CECH-E01 backwards compatible model was well and truly YLODead. I used my hairdryer on a slightly lower speed, for 17 mins, and left a box fan to cool it for 20 mins. I’m still playing it and it’s holding well, PS2 and PS3 games still make my fan very loud, but PS1 and some PS3 games like Sonics Ultimate Genesis Collection don’t max out the fan. I’m currently playing Skate and the system has been on for 3 hours without issue. Will update this comment when it dies!
fatpreacherman - thanks for the tutorial! Unfortunately I’m here to say it died the next day...likely because I did a full system restore to start fresh which took 5 hours, that was 5 hours of gaming time I could’ve spaced out in small bursts. I’m going to try the method again and hope for the best!
It worked like a charm! Thank you!!! By the way, I put it in a box and used the hair dryer for 17 minutes. I then put in the fridge for 45 minutes. You're awesome for taking the time to make this video!!
fatpreacherman I’m also going to do it tomorrow it’s midnight here and once I already opened my My FAT PS3 about 5 minute ago because the power button didn’t work but now it does work but I still have This BLINKING RED ISSUE I’m wondering if it’s gonna for work for me or not I hope 🤞 it might work! (Sorry for bad English)
I can't believe this worked. My PS3 was put in a cupboard 3 years ago after the flashing red light came on and no sign of life. I tried this as a last resort before making the decision to through it away. I tried the hairdryer trick for 5 minutes (because I was impatient) and it worked...for a few minutes. I then tried for the full 15min plus cool down time and I still can't believe its working. THANKS
SUCH A LIFESAVER !!! I tried it and it worked like a charm with just one cycle perfectly for about eight months, it just happened to me again so I had to look back to this video to repeat the steps and I'M FINE with taking care of this once every 8 months hell, its free AND works so why not !? this is one of the greatest fix it yourself hacks!! thank you again so much for posting this!! 😇
BTW: There is another way to get the Disc out even if you already have the YLOD! 1. Switch the console OFF (Button on the backside! Not just Standby-Mode!) 2. HOLD down the eject-Button (until step 4!) 3. Turn the console ON (Again: Button on the backside!) and wait until you hear the fan (it's really loud, don't panic!) 4. Press the eject-Button repeatedly (about once per 1.5s, no buttonmashing!) until the disc comes out I found it in the official sony manuals, but can't find it anymore.
My poor PS3 has finally bit the bucket. It ran like a champ though, it was an original 60gb fat ps3. Good thing I have PS+ and all my saves are in the cloud. I guess that in itself was worth the fee. Edit: Tried this method and it worked perfectly! Was able to get my game out and back up all my data. My new (refurbished) slim should be arriving in a week. Hope it lasts another 8 years.
You can still do this to the original model ps3 and get it revived but it isn't a permanent fix and you're better off using the time it still works to back up anything like saves so you can continue after replacing it. This was an old comment I made I'm surprised I still get notifications for it. I still tamper around with ps3 systems here and there so I'm able to say it still works and your mileage may vary with how long you manage to revive the system for, I had about 5 months of extra life before it gave out
I did this with a towel wrapped around my PS3. it took a total of about 7 or 8 attempts. after the 4th attempt I was able to boot my PS3 but only lasted about a couple minutes. after trying it several more times I was able to keep the PS3 up long enough to do a backup of my all saves. woohoo! that's all I wanted. drove to GameStop and bought a slim 250 with a free game and an extra controller for $160, killer deal. thanks dude, this saved me big time... lots of save data recovered.
It worked for me yes, makesure to cool it down afterwards with cold air fr the hair dryer or let it sit. It's not guaranteed to last but it should extend the life of the PlayStation
@@Insertnamehere287 It worked for me yes, makesure to cool it down afterwards with cold air fr the hair dryer or let it sit. It's not guaranteed to last but it should extend its life
Absolutely amazing!!! Worked like a charm on the first shot, followed the video down to the minute and my PS3 is up and running again. I also had a disk inside that I really wanted and was able to recover it with no issues. Thanks a lot!!!
I thought my PS3 was dead and i lost my Ghosts disc because my PS Died after the power tripped. But this method still worked! i only got it right the second time i tried but unbelievably it works now and i got my disc back! Thanks for the vid man very well explained!!
Dude, thank you thank you, I used the , blow dryer on high, then cooled with blow dryer and I also put it in the fridge for fifteen minutes, and my ps3 is working, everyone thought I was insane until i started playing my games.... thank you again, you the bomb... :)
So I tried this method on my first gen PS3, and it worked! I took a hairdryer and put on the low heat setting and did that for 15 minutes and then I put it on the low cool setting for 20 minutes. After that, it turned on and as of right now, I'm backing up my data. I LITERALLY JUST SAVED MY PS3 FROM THE JAWS OF DEATH.
i fix MY PS3 now !! like new better than before :) you must open it and clean it and replace Thermal paste i put (zp heatsink compounds) AND WORK LIKE CHARM !!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I thought that my PS3 was toast. And thank you for dumbing it down, because I am not really a gamer, but I was very proud of myself that I fixed it!! And I could NEVER have done it without your guidance. It has worked over 3 days now without ANY hiccups!!!! I didn't realize that the shelf above the PS3 had fallen and was laying on top of it, trapping in too much heat. Didn't realize til it was too late. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!! You just saved me a lot of money that I definitely do not have!!!
This worked perfectly!!!! I was able to power on my fat PS3 and it stayed powered on long enough to do a full system transfer to my new superslim PS3! Thanks!! I also kept the hair dryer blowing cool air on my fat PS3 the whole time the system transfer was taking place - just as a precaution. Blessings!
Once I did the full system transfer I boxed it up and put it on a shelf to collect dust forever. I'm guessing it would still work if I hooked it back up but I probably never will. Lol.
First of all thanks for this awesome fix.. it works at least my 12 years old 80gb ps3 just started and play a couple of games installed on the HD, just found and issue, don't know if it was caused with this fix, the game disks doesn't play any sound, tried with a couple and nothing to hear. Also played a couple of games installed on the HD and the sounds goes perfect, also the sound of the dashboard between menus works perfect.. will keep searching for a fix, or if is a permanent damaged.. Thank you again!!
My PS3 died last night while playing GTA5 and the disc was stuck inside. I followed your instructions to the letter and it worked!! Thanks man. tested it out for an hour so far and no issues as of yet. About to do a backup just in case. Thanks again!
Thank you saved "Ghosts" from being trapped in my PS3....It ejected on my 2nd "hair dryer attempt", then shut off again. I'm on my 3rd 15 minute attempt to try to get my data and (hopefully) take it to Game Stop. Oh I took the time to let it cool on its own about 5 hours to be safe. Thanks again!
Don't give up hope, there is still other options for you, 1. try again 2. try full repair 3. take to a local computer repair shop. Hope it all works out, Jesus bless you and good gaming!
Oh man, It work for me as well. I followed the hair dryer method, the only difference is that i just opened the ps3 completely, and then modded the fans speed to 12v , it sound like a vacuum cleaner but it is cool 42 degrees about an hour of heavy use. Thanks! Have a great holidays. Cheers from Puerto Rico.
Just a shout out to say thank you for telling me how to revive my PS3. I was right in the middle of a game when all of a sudden nothing. I couldn't even get it to boot long enough to get the disc out. Your tutorial worked on the first try. I'm hoping it will hold on just a month or so until I get my PS4. Much love and many thanks man!
Replacing a blu-ray drive is pretty straightforward there are videos on it on RUclips, check it out, then check out the ps3's on like eBay that have listed broken blu-ray.
It works all u need to do is 15 minute of heat 10 minute of cold air and leave it for another 10 minute of relaxation and if it turns on u hold on the power botton an it will beep once the fist time and try it the second Time until u hear two beeps and u factory rest it and it will never go bad again promise u that
Your welcome, and I wish I could tell you how long it will last, minutes, days, months...so many different reports. But I do have a video in my ps3 playlist about how to help it last longer, it is called how to stop the YLOD. Jesus bless you and good gaming!
Just wanted to say thank you, it worked. I was able to save my disc and save files. It did take me three times to get it to work, but the probably for me was the hair dryer. ( Make sure that the intakes are clear. this will allow for maximum heat and airflow from the hair dryer.)
man can i just say thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!! i was crying for about one week because of my ps3 but now it's working i used 13 min of hair dryer and 20 min of cooling and i opened my ps3 and i used my hair dryer for about 5 mins and it's worked greatly with all saves and games iam playing gta v right now just one question how much it could stay ?
It took two tries but this trick worked! After the first try my PS3 turned off again after a minute. Long enough to eject my game that was stuck in there. Second time it wouldn't turn on. After each power press the red light just keep blinking. I thought maybe it was too hot so I cooled it down by pointing a small fan at it. About three minutes. I plugged it back in and it worked. I recovered seven years of data thanks to this trick! Thanks fatpreacherman!
IT WORKED!!!!! I have a fat PS3 from 2008 - great console - never had an issue with it and I logged heavy hours on it! I loved it so much I got a PS4 but the lack of quality games lead me back to playing my PS3 - after of over 500hr of Dark Souls 2 I got the dreaded YLOD / blinking red light - I never backed up my data like an idiot and thought all was lost - saw this video and thought I would give it a try - I pulled the hard drive and wrapped it in a towel - approx. 16 mins of blowing in the rear vents and then popped it in the fridge for 15min it actually turned on - got about 5min into my backup and it failed - 2nd attempt same thing but I used blow dryer for 21min and put it in the freezer for 10 and then fridge for 10 - let it sit for a couple hours and whatta ya know! it worked! fired up like a champ! got all my game data off it and powered it down! Sony will replace it for $80.00 - not a bad deal considering my first one lasted for 6yrs - THANK YOU FPM! this video was a life saver!!
Awesome, so glad it all worked out for you, if you don't mind check out my new channel and if you like what you see give us a subscribe. Have a great week! ruclips.net/user/gamertalkchannel
FYI---IF you want to just retrieve a stuck disc then.....1.Turn off power in back. 2.Hold down eject button and power button in front at same time while turning main power button on back of system to the on position. This should temporarily turn system on long enough to push eject button to retrieve disc! it will only stay on for about 10 secs!
I was almost certain that this wouldn't work but I had 97 hours of FFX to rescue so I thought it was worth a go. IT WORKED. For less than 5 minutes, but that was long enough for me to transfer my game saves to the PS+ cloud. Amazing.
Thanks a lot. I was getting Red light blinking and I just did this with a hair dryer heating for 5 minutes, until touching the bottom was very very hot, and then waiting to cool. It worked like a charm, and it wasnt needed to open the ps3.
Glad it helped, check out our other channel ruclips.net/user/gamertalkchannel and us on facebook facebook.com/gamertalkchannel Jesus bless you and good gaming!
DUDE!!! Thank you so much for this vid. My PS3 backward compatible had the flashing red lights right when I was playing South Park & watching this vid made it come back. Thank you again man!!!
fatpreacherman thanks for the help bro. I did it for my ps3, 2 times and it finally worked but how long did yours last before it went out ? And can I do this again ?
You can do it again, but it will eventually stop helping. Mine lasted till I traded it in for a newer model, so I don't know how long it lasted honestly.
So last night, my Fat Original refurbed, 3 years old. Just finished a movie on Netflix. Then it shut down with the blinking red light. Did the hair dryer thing. Heated and cooled as instructed. There was lint, dust and dirt blowing out and the HD slot was really filthy. Anyway back up and running watching Sin City on Blu. Thanks so much for uploading and sharing your knowledge.
fatpreacherman, thank you so much! I had a very old 80gb reverse compatible PS3 that just yesterday received the dreaded YLOD. When I googled it a number of options came up. I decided to try yours first based on previous commentary and although I was skeptical it worked like a charm! You are the man. I ended up not tempting fate and immediately traded it in for $75 after retrieving all of my game files. Thanks again!
With the thermal compound dont forget to replace the thermal pads and to reflow/reball the board also (since you are going to have it open). Also, I don't take Jesus as a joke, nor do I joke when I tell my viewers that I hope Jesus will bless them, and if Jesus can fix a broken down shell of a man like me, I can't even imagine the wonders He could do with a broke PS3, probably turn it in to a portable version of the PS4! -FPm- Jesus bless you and good gaming!
Mine is 12 years of age, and was working fine till recently. :~( I am going to do a deep cleanse, try out the hair drier routine on the chips, and see.
I never write comments on anyone's profile. But I had the blinking red light. This has fixed it! Played for 2 hours last night after getting gta and no problems so far. Thank you so much
Thank you so much. My original fat PS3 died just the other day. It had over 5 years worth of saves, pictures, and my activated account on it. I thought I'd lost it all but this worked just long enough for me to copy over my saves and deactivate my account so I could activate it on my new PS3. Still can't believe it worked. Thank you again
Ok, I did it twice already. Heated for 15 and cooled for 20. In fact it got worse. Back then I could've gotten to the XMB and now I can't even do that. So I guess I am in the 30% failure. Is there ANY way to save data you know of?
Jacob Watts If you listen to my commentary on this video, what wolf told you will not work. The data has to be saved/moved from the ps3 that it was created on, so if your system is down YOU MUST GET IT TO WORK at least temporarily and then move the data, that hdd from the system is useless, unless you don;t mind loosing the data and just want it for a hdd in another system. If my method doesn't help you may need to take it to a computer repair shop, or do the full repair (reflow/reball).
@@Kwn0ss It depends what you're looking for, I've never bothered with jailbreaking, but if that's something you want then you might want to try getting a newer ps3, or one that has been professionally refurbished (heat paste replaced and newer pads)
Had a YLOD ps3 from a friend thats been in the closet, did your method and it worked, Thanks man!! It did actually died when I traded it in, but I already got the credit so it's on them! Thanks again!!!!
just wanted to confirm, although I doubted seriously, I got back my borderlands 2 game after failed fan power startup method, using this hair dryer method. I got 1st gen ps3, with problem of yellow light dead ps3. happy to come back to report this. Thanks fatpreacher.
The problem is that the thermal compound/paste is old and not conducting well. You need to open up your PS3 and remove and replace the paste/compound from the GPU and CPU on the mother board. The problem with the old paste/compound is that it's over heating the PS3, which causes the PS3 to flash telling you that the system is over heating. Thermal paste/compound can be from 3-10 dollars which isn't that much. It's an easy fix.
This in context of someone that has a yellow light, not just flashing. The red flashing usually is a sign of a over heating system if you didn't know. This method fixed my PS3. The thing is that every type of system is completely different, so the repair might be different on your end.
December 26, 2018 and this method 100% worked. My console bricked a yellow light a few weeks ago and I decided to give this a shot. Heated for 15 mins and cooled for 20. Powered right up.
I was so skeptical to try this, and my God it actually worked lol I grabbed my sisters hair blower and did everything you said to do, it actually worked! Thank you very much !
Worked great in my PS3 60GB CECHA1 What i did is, unplug the system, remove the HDD or you'll damage it, use the hairdryer during 15 minutes, let it cool off for 40 mins (20 mins was still pretty hot). Before you even think on turning on the console, PLEASE PUT YOUR HDD IN YOUR CONSOLE, so it won't try to format it. That way i backed up all my saves. Thank you very much for this!
It worked!!! I did exactly what preacher said.. i put the ps 3 in the fridge for like 40 min.... it works! i havent had it one for more than 15 minutes but i was able to transfer all the game save data... thanks man!!!
Ive used this technique 3 times now...1st time it only worked for bout a week. 2nd time...lasted close to 6 months. Just finished 3rd time...will see how long it lasts this time. I personally put it in a box and cover the top with towels...ive never taken the hard drive out. Has worked everytime.
havent tried this yet. just turned on my ps3 and that bullshit red light blinking started.now i just need to get a hair dryer lol. idk if it will work for me but Ima just thank you in advance cause i can see you've helped a ton of people with this issue. you're a good man for doing this
Totally worked with an air popcorn popper instead of a hair dryer on my 80Gig!!! I don't own a hair dryer and didn't want to buy one to do this but I realized that my popcorn maker is almost the same thing and it worked great, had to try twice, didn't hold it close enough to get it hot enough the first time but worked great the second time. Cooled it with a box fan. Got my disc back and bought a month of ps+ to back up my stuff! Copying it to my new PS3 now. Thanks a ton!
That is pretty cool, thanks for sharing. If you don't mind check out our new channel if it is something that you may like give us a subscribe. ruclips.net/user/gamertalkchannel
fatpreacherman I'm kind of a noob when it come to this stuff, but I have a question, If you take out the hard drive, can you just put into another shell of a ps3 and have your data?
Unfortunately you can't, I have a few other ps3 videos that talk about how to transfer the data from one to another, but first you have to get the old one up and running at least long enough for the transfer. Listen to the commentary I give during this video then check out my PS3 playlist.
IT WORKS! I have a modified PS3 80GB Fat CECHE01 reverse compatible version with an 500 GB hard drive currently in it. I had the RLOD last year. So I did send it to Sony to get it fixed. Well after an ENTIRE YEAR it crapped back out on me. Of course, Sony wanted another $130.00. So desperate times, bring desperate measures. I did however, use an commercial blow dryer like the Hair Salons have by Tools Science. Instead of, using the cooler on the dryer it was still kind of hot. So I took the advice of the guy with the refrigerator deal. Popped it in for 25 minutes actually. Got it out pulled in the hard drive, booted it up. And BOOM... It was on. 6 HOURS and 30 MINUTES to backup and transfer all my data to my external hard drive. And that bad boy is still getting it. Best damn 1 hour I spent every using Cajun ingenuity. Thanks you very much fatpreacherman I really appreciate it. I very HAPPY Pharrell Williams - Happy (Official Music Video) and content. Because, I have all my CONTENT!! (Get it) Thanks once again!
This got my PS3 phat working long enough to get my data off! I tried it once and it only worked for a few minutes before dying again, but on the second attempt it stayed on for a few hours - long enough to get a full backup and get PS Plus to get my saves into the cloud. It's still working I suppose, but I don't have a lot of faith in it continuing to work for much longer. Anyway, thanks for the video!
Yeah. I was playing some disc based games and got YLOD. I knew time would catch up to me and happen with playing a disced game. So i put it on PS+ :D. Good thing i did since my PS3 pretty much dead now
It worked! First time. Used a 1750W hair dryer. About 10 minutes of hot and 15 minutes of normal (still seemed a bit warm) air. Turned it on almost right after the air blowing. The hot air warped some of the plastic at the edge of the side vents. Backing up now.
Hey, I bought GTA V a few days ago. I installed it, but after five minutes of playing i got this exact problem. I really didn't want to send my PS3 to Sony so i tried to fix the problem by doing this trick and i formatted my PS3 afterwards. I didn't think it would work but it really did! So thanks fot the help, fatpreacherman, & game on!
Mate just seen your video as I had blinking red light on my phat back 60gb ps3 and tryed the hairdryer trick it worked a treat can't thank you enough awesome can't believe it work top bloke
Tried this last night, worked perfectly. Thank you very much FPM. I used a cardboard box to create the "oven" effect. Ps3 lasted long enough for me to get my disk out and do a transfer to a new PS3.
Ok, i have a "fat" 60gb ps3 (that i have upgraded the hdd to 500gb) I bought it when they first came out. the psu died 31 days later (lost everything) gamestop replaced no probs. Then about 3 years ago, it got the ylod. sent it to Sony, paid $150 to have it fixed. last night I got the flashing red light. I was very, VERY skeptical of this fix. but today, i followed the directions EXACTLY and IT WORKED!! YAY got my dark souls disk out and backed everything up. it has been on all day THANK YOU!!!!
Mrs. Angel all the way up on high heat. Did it for 17-18 minutes, cooled it down with regular blown air from the from the hair dryer and actually put it in the fridge for 15 mins. Went out for 2-3 hours and fired right up
This worked!! Got my rented disk out of there. Don't know how long it'll last but thanks for the tip. Didn't have to open the machine, saved a lot of work!!
Hello! I followed your indications exactly (console placed upside down, hair dryer across the back vents, 15minutes hot, 20minutes cool), and it worked - the console is running now, no more YLOD :D. I don't know how much it will last, but I will stress test it in GTA5, for a couple of hours, after replacing the thermal pads and thermal paste. To be honest, I was not confident that this solution would actually work, but it did. A note to people that plan on trying this: I used my hair dryer on max flow and max temperature settings for 15 minutes, as indicated. This caused the top (if the console is placed in vertical position) plastic case part to warp slightly, due to the heat. Your mileage may vary. @fatpreacherman Thank you again for this video! :D
This method really works. Worked for me for about a day, then it got buggy after that. I haven't gotten the YLOD again but the PS3 just involuntarily shuts off now..
I followed every single step to a tea and guess what!? It came back on!!!! But, I really just needed to come on because a i had a DVD stuck inside. Now, I'm gonna just let the system rest for a couple. Thanks! You totally earned my subscribe.
Actually worked. Failed on the first, blow dried for 15 then let it cooled naturally by the window for an hour. Next day tried again, blow dry for 15 on high then cooled it with the dryer for 20 on low. Hopefully lasts until I get the super slim model. Thanks for the video
This works. I just did it today. I used the hair dryer for a total of 20 minutes with a 1minute break every 5 minutes. Then let it sit for 1hour outside in the cold.

Oh my god. It's actually worked first try. My PS3's been dead of 4 years now and now I can finally back my stuff back.
Thank you so much!
Do it works now in 2021
I just wanted to say that I just recently experienced the YLOD.

Glad it helped and thanks for all the details!
fatpreacherman - thanks for the tutorial!
Is that a temp or perm fix?
13:00 the assist here is worth the whole video
7 years later and I've just used this method to fix my PS3!! Thanks!
Glad it helped
fatpreacherman I’m also going to do it tomorrow it’s midnight here and once I already opened my My FAT PS3 about 5 minute ago because the power button didn’t work but now it does work but I still have This BLINKING RED ISSUE I’m wondering if it’s gonna for work for me or not I hope 🤞 it might work! @@Flawleszed yes for 5 minutes only 😆 better not to try it doesn't worth it
@@TheGreatPartt I will give it one try.
Andre Smith is it still working
Yay, it worked! Had the YLOD, and my game was stuck. Thankfully, after doing this, I was able to get the game out. So happy!
BTW: There is another way to get the Disc out even if you already have the YLOD!
1. Switch the console OFF (Button on the backside! Not just Standby-Mode!)
2. HOLD down the eject-Button (until step 4!)
3. Turn the console ON (Again: Button on the backside!) and wait until you hear the fan (it's really loud, don't panic!)
4. Press the eject-Button repeatedly (about once per 1.5s, no buttonmashing!) until the disc comes out
I found it in the official sony manuals, but can't find it anymore.
How did that go?
How long did work for
I did this about five months ago after watching your video and I have had my system working for close to a year
Does it still work?
Eagle_66 no they patched it in the recent update
You can still do this to the original model ps3 and get it revived but it isn't a permanent fix and you're better off using the time it still works to back up anything like saves so you can continue after replacing it.
This was an old comment I made I'm surprised I still get notifications for it. I still tamper around with ps3 systems here and there so I'm able to say it still works and your mileage may vary with how long you manage to revive the system for, I had about 5 months of extra life before it gave out
Randy B. If i heat it for 15 mins and cool for 20 it might work around 5 months?
I'm going to assume you have never done this before and are actually trying to find out, and yes.
Your video is 7 years old, but it worked for my ps3 slim today! Thank you man
Glad it helped
11/2019 still working wonders, cheers for saving the day
Thanks, glad it helped
THECHEMICAL5 wait so it actually works cos my PS3 just got the red light ?
It worked for me yes, makesure to cool it down afterwards with cold air fr the hair dryer or let it sit. It's not guaranteed to last but it should extend the life of the PlayStation
@@Insertnamehere287 It worked for me yes, makesure to cool it down afterwards with cold air fr the hair dryer or let it sit. It's not guaranteed to last but it should extend its life
THECHEMICAL5 wow cheers I'll try it tomorrow.
Absolutely amazing!!! Worked like a charm on the first shot, followed the video down to the minute and my PS3 is up and running again. I also had a disk inside that I really wanted and was able to recover it with no issues. Thanks a lot!!!
Worked first time, very impressive, managed to retrieve all my photos before I trade it in against my PS4! Big thanks man!
You are very welcome, glad it helped, please like and share!
I was unsure if this would work but took a chance and after having a broken PS3 in the wardrobe for 2 years it lives again! Thanks for the video.
Sammy F noice! Thanks for sharing
Glad it helped out bro!
I can’t figure out if this is all just a joke. If not, why does this even work?
i fix MY PS3 now !! like new better than before :) you must open it and clean it and replace Thermal paste i put (zp heatsink compounds) AND WORK LIKE CHARM !!
A tip: watch series at InstaFlixxer. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Rhett Kaison Yup, been using InstaFlixxer for since december myself =)
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I thought that my PS3 was toast. And thank you for dumbing it down, because I am not really a gamer, but I was very proud of myself that I fixed it!! And I could NEVER have done it without your guidance. It has worked over 3 days now without ANY hiccups!!!! I didn't realize that the shelf above the PS3 had fallen and was laying on top of it, trapping in too much heat. Didn't realize til it was too late. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!! You just saved me a lot of money that I definitely do not have!!!
This video may be old, but gosh darn this actually worked. Don't now for how long tho, but this really helped me.
Glad it helped, thanks for commenting
Did exactly as you advised and worked like a charm. Kept me from having to replace a red box rental. God bless you and keep up the great work!!
This worked perfectly!!!! I was able to power on my fat PS3 and it
stayed powered on long enough to do a full system transfer to my new
superslim PS3! Thanks!! I also kept the hair dryer blowing cool air on
my fat PS3 the whole time the system transfer was taking place - just as
a precaution. Blessings!
jwdonal does it still work
Once I did the full system transfer I boxed it up and put it on a shelf to collect dust forever. I'm guessing it would still work if I hooked it back up but I probably never will. Lol.
jwdonal will you sell it
PS3 got the yellow light today after 6 years going to try this out.
forgot about this post, this actually worked. My ps3 runs fine now except for the eject button which i think i messed up when i opened the ps3 lol.
FIRST PS3-Motherboard broken
SECOND PS3-Yellow light of death
just broke again :/ don't know if it will work but its worth a try!
So does it work?
Today is 12 years lol
Glad it helped, thanks for watching and commenting, Jesus bless you and good gaming!
Don't give up hope, there is still other options for you,
1. try again
2. try full repair
3. take to a local computer repair shop.
Hope it all works out, Jesus bless you and good gaming!
It actually worked even in 2018..Way to go man!!
Αlex Milo glad to hear it helped, thanks for commenting
Αlex Milo Did really worked to you??im curious tho
@@marshfellowlolph9208 Yeah it worked but not for long time.. Maybe the damage is more serious.. I will try to change the paste..
It works all u need to do is 15 minute of heat 10 minute of cold air and leave it for another 10 minute of relaxation and if it turns on u hold on the power botton an it will beep once the fist time and try it the second Time until u hear two beeps and u factory rest it and it will never go bad again promise u that
kirito 14 but if I factory reset it won't I lose my data??
Andre Smith do you want it to work or keep your data
Kit Kat yeah you're going to have to if its going to run faster or better.
I'm going to do this after a deep, thorough cleanse. My PS3 must have nasty dust bunnies in it.
It didn’t work
Your welcome, and I wish I could tell you how long it will last, minutes, days, months...so many different reports.
Worked like a charm!
Dryer for 15mins, outside in the winter for an hour, then good as new, transferred files to a new model.
Thanks man!
man can i just say thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!! i was crying for about one week because of my ps3 but now it's working i used 13 min of hair dryer and 20 min of cooling and i opened my ps3 and i used my hair dryer for about 5 mins and it's worked greatly with all saves and games iam playing gta v right now just one question how much it could stay ?
No idea.
It worked!!! Thank you!!! Even in 2017!!!
Giovanni D do u think it work on my ps3 slim??? pls help
Giovanni D is it still working??
I just got the yellow light and i'm dying inside!!
Giovanni D what about now
You are welcome, thanks for watching and commenting!

Mine just got yellow! :(
Worked like a charm u legend
Thanks for watching and commenting, glad it helped
is it still up and working like new ?
ItZ Wolfie it worked for like 2-3 days before doing it again lol
FYI---IF you want to just retrieve a stuck disc then.....1.Turn off power in back. 2.Hold down eject button and power button in front at same time while turning main power button on back of system to the on position. This should temporarily turn system on long enough to push eject button to retrieve disc! it will only stay on for about 10 secs!
this works! thanks very much :D
awesome it worked thanks u saved my day
Mark White thanks I saved my Minecraft disc
thanks worked great!
didnt work for me either. opened up my ps3 and manually got it out.
It worked like a charm, and it wasnt needed to open the ps3.

fatpreacherman thanks for the help bro. I did it for my ps3, 2 times and it finally worked but how long did yours last before it went out ? And can I do this again ?
You can do it again, but it will eventually stop helping. Mine lasted till I traded it in for a newer model, so I don't know how long it lasted honestly.
I need help bad

Wolf Lovel Then it says you have to format. which will delete all the system storage... So where from there. How can you even save the data then?..
If my method doesn't help you may need to take it to a computer repair shop, or do the full repair (reflow/reball).
how exactly did you do that
Glad it helped, Jesus bless you and good gaming!

just wanted to confirm, although I doubted seriously, I got back my borderlands 2 game after failed fan power startup method, using this hair dryer method. I got 1st gen ps3, with problem of yellow light dead ps3. happy to come back to report this. Thanks fatpreacher.
Just did this today, and it worked!!!! 15 minutes of blowdryer and i let it cool for an hour in front of a fan. Booted up perfect!!!
Yeah that's what I heard, it's all about the thermal paste
Can you make a vid?
This in context of someone that has a yellow light, not just flashing. The red flashing usually is a sign of a over heating system if you didn't know. This method fixed my PS3. The thing is that every type of system is completely different, so the repair might be different on your end.
My ps3 is hold gta5 but it crash on cod ghost so what i do now??
Gaz yea, thermal paste has a duration time of about 8 years, the ps3 has been released way longer than 8 years so these problems are expected

December 26, 2018 and this method 100% worked.
My console bricked a yellow light a few weeks ago and I decided to give this a shot.
Heated for 15 mins and cooled for 20. Powered right up.
Thanks for watching and sharing, glad it helped!
I was so skeptical to try this, and my God it actually worked lol I grabbed my sisters hair blower and did everything you said to do, it actually worked! Thank you very much !
Worked great in my PS3 60GB CECHA1
What i did is, unplug the system, remove the HDD or you'll damage it, use the hairdryer during 15 minutes, let it cool off for 40 mins (20 mins was still pretty hot).
Before you even think on turning on the console, PLEASE PUT YOUR HDD IN YOUR CONSOLE, so it won't try to format it.
That way i backed up all my saves.
Thank you very much for this!
This worked 2020. Not used my playstation in years had the yellow light. Tried this twice and second time it worked!!! Thanks so much XXX
Thanks for watching and commenting!
havent tried this yet. just turned on my ps3 and that bullshit red light blinking started.now i just need to get a hair dryer lol. idk if it will work for me but Ima just thank you in advance cause i can see you've helped a ton of people with this issue. you're a good man for doing this
Totally worked with an air popcorn popper instead of a hair dryer on my 80Gig!!!

Hey man sick thanks
fatpreacherman I'm kind of a noob when it come to this stuff, but I have a question, If you take out the hard drive, can you just put into another shell of a ps3 and have your data?
Glad it helped out!
Hey,
I bought GTA V a few days ago.
This totally worked!!! Don’t know how long it will work for but great vid and super useful

Rod hayes.what's Hair dryer mode cool or hot plz tell me
Mrs. Angel all the way up on high heat. Did it for 17-18 minutes, cooled it down with regular blown air from the from the hair dryer and actually put it in the fridge for 15 mins. Went out for 2-3 hours and fired right up
Rod Hayes. Bro it is worked
Mrs. Angel used mine for about 30 mins today no prob. I also blew out what dust was inside

Worked for me. Just came alive. Not sure how long it will last, but thanks for the hope.
This works. I just did it today. I used the hair dryer for a total of 20 minutes with a 1minute break every 5 minutes. Then let it sit for 1hour outside in the cold.
