Yes, wanted to play this morning (have not used my PS3 for a while) only to find out that the red light was gone. Took the power cord out and in again, reg light came on and started to play GTA5. After only 5 min. it went out, just like if the power cord had been removed. Took the power cord out and in again, then started to play again, same thing after a few minutes... Now, it even goes off while I am on the PS3 menu, even doing nothing... Still haven't found a fix....
holding the eject button doesn't always remove a stuck game. Sometimes you may have to hold down both the Eject and the Power buttons at the same time and then connect it to the power source. This help me, the light will go blue and then an internal fan will blow for about 10 to 20 seconds. By this time the CD should be ejected. Also holding the power button after connecting to the power source can help go into safe mode, which requires holding down the Power button whilst green until 2 beeps are heard from your console. On Safe mode, select the 3rd option which is 'Restore File System'...System will clean itself up, clear all corrupt files and the console should start as normal after this procedure

This is an awesome fix and worked on my 80gb fat ps3 and is a genius fix. Who knew that it was just the capacitors in the PSU that needed to be discharged in order for it to work again! 😱👍
At my friends house for a week and everyone went out so it was me and the good ol throw back ps3. I’m guessing because of age this system is acting funky. Won’t find SSID and keeps turning off. Bout to play black ops 2 and I’m cool with just campaign at this point. Keeps turning off. Edit: Just tried your technique and it still doing it. Still giving you a thumbs up since it helped you and some other people. I’m thinking my friends ps is old, maybe dusty inside(ports don’t look so bad). I took it off the surge protector and hooked it up straight to the wall outlet and still turned off. I’ll probably google some more options but I’m thinking this beast is RIP

Applies to me too. My PS3 Slim would shut down during gameplay. Around 10-40 minutes depending on which game I play. The only exceptions are GTA V disc version and the digital games. I could play GTA V fine for the whole day if I wanted to, but not any other game.

When I play old games like, past CoD games, past Assassin's Creed games or just any old games my PS3 can stay on for the whole day, but when it comes to new games such as AC Rogue, LBP3 or Advanced Warfare it turns off by itself in like a few minutes of gaming, never has it lasted an hour with a new game inside.
Just plug out your ps 3 wire from power not from ps3 and connect your ps3 power wire ,s plug with wire then do this trick for 30 sec and then plug in your ps3 ,s wire with power . I solved my ps3 problem with this trick.
In my case it was the optical drive being bad connected. I opened again and connected it better and started working fine again. Hope it helps ( probably other parts being bad connected can cause this issue too )
This worked for me. Easy solution to my problem. I tore my whole ps3 apart cleaned it, put it back together and it was still turning off. I did this an its been working so far. Thanks
Mine still turns off, even though I go through your process every time, every time I turn it on, it stays on for like 5 seconds, then it completely turns off, without showing a red dot or any light.

I also was going to try a power supply "fix" I saw on another video, but mine is a little different. So I've ordered a new power supply, same model as mine on ebay. Perhaps replacing it will fix my issue. Thanks, again, for those helping the ones who this worked for.
The only other thing I think I'm going to try is to reflow the motherboard. Now i gotta spend more money on a heat gun. It's really my only hope left, other than give in to Sony and spend God knows how much for them to fix it.

It does a reset to default when you hold down the power button for 30 seconds with the power chord in i think. Not sure how having the power chord out help. (cord or chord ?)

Stoliie if it is a fatty hold the ps3 power button down till u hear 3 beeps after the inicial beep like "power on beep then a few seconds later beep ........beep beep" then go to restart ps3 option because that will put the ps3 in safe mode so select restart ps3 then tell me what happens. this works on the fatty but im not sure about the slim

I just tried it, held it down for 50 secs using my iphone stopwatch and it worked! I tried turning it on before i looked up this video and it wouldnt stay on for no more ten secs. So yea thanks Robert
The fix for this is one of two things the capacitors are bad or the psu fuse is bad, what you can do is open the ps3 and take out and open the psu, inside you will see two trimpots(ps3 slim psu only) turn them both maybe a millimeter or two to the left, this will drop the power consumption of the psu and will allow it to work again when this fix fails you need to replace the psu or find the original fault.

This is a power supply unit (psu) issue best to replace for about £10/$16 but can be fixed easy for free if you feel comfortable taking the console apart.
So I did what the video says and had no luck the first time. Before i tried again, i blew out all the dust around the vents. Un-plugged it, held button for 30 sec, plugged it back in, and it turned on. Thanks for the help

I put a game into my ps3, then it shuts off without any beeping. Later it does what you described and I tried what you said. It didn't work, any help? edit: The game iddn't go fully into the ps3 but I can't pull it out, I assume it's the PSU?
Use the Playstation Recovery Menu 1. Turn off Playstation®3. 2. Hold The power button down, the system will turn on, beep a couple of times, then turn itself off. 3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

Heyo, idk if you’ll ever see this, and there’s probably no fix. Anyways, I turn on my ps3, and the power works fine. If I EVER got the video to work, it sometimes randomly shut off at times, probably when it was working too hard. That may be this same issue. But my real problem is this: I turn on the PS3. The light turns green and there’s not any issues with it turning on. But there’s no video when I turn it on. Whenever I got it to work before, it took at least 20-30, even upwards of 70 turn ons and offs for it to work first time. Also, I noticed, whenever I got the video to work, this little orange-ish yellow-ish light would come on at the bottom left front of the PS3. Not sure what that means, but whenever it worked, that would flash and flash for the time it was working. Whenever it does not work, which recently has been always, that yellowish orangeish light has not come on. I’m really not sure what’s going on but it’s not good lol. Let me know if anyone had had this problem before and or how to fix it, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!
I got the red ring of death on my xbox after about 2 yrs.. I've had my ps3 for almost 6 years and I just started getting this issue. So I don't know why you're saying something like that
thats funny to me because i went through about 5 360's with the red ring of death and most people i know who had the 360 had the same problem. they are machines and will eventually break down.
I did that, it works fine, but when using it, it switches off by itself after a while. Each subsequent shutdown happens just a few seconds after the previous point that it hanged.
The issue with my ps3 is that it works fine for about 30 minutes or so, but then it shuts off automatically. Then, i turn it on again and it works for about 40 minutes and then turns off by itself. I think it works, but i don't know what is causing the problem.
*If It Doesn't Work the First Time* Unplug power cable, hold EJECT button, plug in power cable while still holding eject, and it will run the fans on high. Hold eject until they go off, and the system turns back off. Unplug power cable again, hold the POWER button now for 30 seconds, let go, then plug in power cable and turn the PS3 on. That did the trick for me, thanks to someone down in the comments.

I have an unconventional approach... Try the button, hold it, unplug it... Doesn't work... Punch it... Punch it... Repeat.. .not working... throw it against wall... Repeat... Doesn't work... Mix one part baking soda with one part rubbing alcohol, one part carpet cleaner, one part vinegar... but the white vinegar... Fill the rest with water of course... Then throw PS3 into the sink... If it floats.. It's possessed by demons, and you should set it on fire...

Guys, also make sure your ps3 is getting enough power! Try plugging in your power cord in a Wall, not an cord extender.

Yours is corupted file asher damian delete the game install and dlc of that game sync your trophies and then turn off ps3 then back on it should work.

Some times putting a ps3 in a freezer will fix this issue but it will shut off when it hits room temperature

The only other thing I think I'm going to try is to reflow the motherboard. Now i gotta spend more money on a heat gun. It's really my only hope left, other than give in to Sony and spend God knows how much for them to fix it.

oh my god, this was going on with my ps3 about a year ago and tryed to fix it on my own for weeks and i didnt have money for spare parts, was feeling nostalgic and wanted to try again and i cant believe its this simple.

Mine is a fat PS3, so how would the button thing really work? I somehow doubt holding the "button" down would work.
It does a reset to default when you hold down the power button for 30 seconds with the power chord in i think. Not sure how having the power chord out help. (cord or chord ?)

Stoliie if it is a fatty hold the ps3 power button down till u hear 3 beeps after the inicial beep like "power on beep then a few seconds later beep ........beep beep" then go to restart ps3 option because that will put the ps3 in safe mode so select restart ps3 then tell me what happens. this works on the fatty but im not sure about the slim

I tried the unplug, hold the button method, but no luck. Then I tried the bang and shake method and now it's working.
The fix for this is one of two things the capacitors are bad or the psu fuse is bad, what you can do is open the ps3 and take out and open the psu, inside you will see two trimpots(ps3 slim psu only) turn them both maybe a millimeter or two to the left, this will drop the power consumption of the psu and will allow it to work again when this fix fails you need to replace the psu or find the original fault.

You open it (taking of the top) and you will se it. (Cleaning it) just use Q-tips, like i did :P
This is a power supply unit (psu) issue best to replace for about £10/$16 but can be fixed easy for free if you feel comfortable taking the console apart.
So I did what the video says and had no luck the first time. Before i tried again, i blew out all the dust around the vents. Un-plugged it, held button for 30 sec, plugged it back in, and it turned on. Thanks for the help

Use the Playstation Recovery Menu
1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold The power button down, the system will turn on, beep a couple of times, then turn itself off.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

Heyo, idk if you’ll ever see this, and there’s probably no fix. Anyways, I turn on my ps3, and the power works fine. If I EVER got the video to work, it sometimes randomly shut off at times, probably when it was working too hard. That may be this same issue. But my real problem is this: I turn on the PS3. The light turns green and there’s not any issues with it turning on. But there’s no video when I turn it on. Whenever I got it to work before, it took at least 20-30, even upwards of 70 turn ons and offs for it to work first time. Also, I noticed, whenever I got the video to work, this little orange-ish yellow-ish light would come on at the bottom left front of the PS3. Not sure what that means, but whenever it worked, that would flash and flash for the time it was working. Whenever it does not work, which recently has been always, that yellowish orangeish light has not come on. I’m really not sure what’s going on but it’s not good lol. Let me know if anyone had had this problem before and or how to fix it, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

thats funny to me because i went through about 5 360's with the red ring of death and most people i know who had the 360 had the same problem. they are machines and will eventually break down.

I did that, it works fine, but when using it, it switches off by itself after a while. Each subsequent shutdown happens just a few seconds after the previous point that it hanged.

My PS3 only shuts off when playing PS2 games, san andreas specifically.
The issue with my ps3 is that it works fine for about 30 minutes or so, but then it shuts off automatically. Then, i turn it on again and it works for about 40 minutes and then turns off by itself. I think it works, but i don't know what is causing the problem.
What exactly does that do, I hope it doesn't affect anything on the PlayStation ..
*If It Doesn't Work the First Time*
Unplug power cable, hold EJECT button, plug in power cable while still holding eject, and it will run the fans on high. Hold eject until they go off, and the system turns back off. Unplug power cable again, hold the POWER button now for 30 seconds, let go, then plug in power cable and turn the PS3 on. That did the trick for me, thanks to someone down in the comments.

I have an unconventional approach... Try the button, hold it, unplug it... Doesn't work... Punch it... Punch it... Repeat.. .not working... throw it against wall... Repeat... Doesn't work... Mix one part baking soda with one part rubbing alcohol, one part carpet cleaner, one part vinegar... but the white vinegar... Fill the rest with water of course... Then throw PS3 into the sink... If it floats.. It's possessed by demons, and you should set it on fire...
This remedy worked perfect the 1st time I tried it somewhere in 2013-2014 and praised your Name,however the same problem has reappeared recently but this time it doesn't want to fix itself but I am still able to play my fat ps3 thanks to you but after struggling to switch it on hoping it doesn't turn itself off after trying to switch it on, for about 1minute to 5mins.
