I know this is years after when it was posted, but I've watched a dozen videos and visited at least 10 sites. Did updates twice and still got the same message after the PS3 working for a day. Was about to resort to buying a new PS3, new hard drive, or taking it to a shop. The reset was the ONLY thing that helped! You have saved me a ton of cash and time. Thanks!

@Ateeq Ahmed dude if you are reading this in 2021 hope this helps you. I faced this problem but I got the solution. This problem occurs because some game file has been corrupted. First switch off your ps3
Then hold the on button of your ps3 for 15 seconds it will go off again. Now again hold the on button till you hear 2 continuous beeps. Now your in safemode. Click on restore file system. This will basically remove all corrupted files and data but don't worry your game saves will be safe.

Hi, I need your help on my PS3 unique issue.
Problem with PS3 (FAT) Console on start-up. As usual, main power switch turned on and red light appears, but when the moment I touch on the power or the eject touch panel it just shuts down immediately turning from red light to green light (accompanied with a somewhat clicking metal sound heard from with-in the console). Tried to turn off and on the main power again, Red light appears as usual again but the moment when i touched the power or eject button it immediately shuts down again.

open ps3 unplug bluray drive out of circuit then plug power cord in and press power if ps3 doesn't shutdown then it's bad bluray drive. if it still shutdown is bad ic on regulator on mother board. also check for 5v standby from power board.

I've been told that it could be the problem. Mine has a new HDMI cable and a new wireless controller with the USB key and a controller cable. I'm stuck at "Plug the controller and press PS button".
Sadly I still have no signal to the TV over HDMI, green light is on, but no signal. ohh well something died on the mobo.
Great TampaTec, the soft reset worked for me. I unplugged it for 20 seconds and then plugged back in and switched on, held On/Off button down until it turned red and then switched back on and all is good.
Now I find myself having to do this as often as 9 times out of 10 when switching on to get it running, is that normal or is my unit about to go belly up. !!!
Still none of this works for me I tried everything but when I try to do these steps my PS3 keeps freezing before it shows PS3 is there anything else I can do
Are you stuck on startup, if so wait about an hour, mine fixed itselfed and then make the resolution lower

evan clean your lens or chang blueray driver for new or second hand one make sure its same model then change the board from origanal bluray to the new one your puting in ie the board under blueray as its regesterd to your ps3 also change psu could be A diod or capaseter in psu power supply unit also update it
evan that's when you use psn games like i do or get a whole new ps3 because if you were to get somebody to take apart your ps3 it would cost way more therefore your only option is psn games or new ps3 with your old account

Hello hey out of all the videos out there, yours is the best, clearest and simplest. I've got a fat ps3 I know it's old but my sons just started playing ps3 and once he's a bit older will get him ps4 it's just that's just a bit too advanced for him.anyway with the ps3 when switching it on,on the screen it says storage cannot read?now I've seen other videos and it shows you pull out hard drive to clear dust and stuff.but it still doesn't do nothing,can I get a new hard drive?hopefully you know what I'm on about I know nothing about play stations or technology please any advice would be awesome.thanks
Thanks, not reading storage error, Troubleshoot steps are to restart, if that doesn't work then reset by unplugging power for 1 minute, next try clear out dust inside and reseat hard drive, next unfortunately may need to initialize system to clear hard drive corruption or replace with new hard drive.

2.Hold The Power Button Until You Hear 2 Beeps, Then Let Go
3.Then You Turn The Ps3 off correctly if it wasn't Before
4. Then turn it Back On, Then You Have your Ps3...

Great video. I fear my daughters PS3 Super Slim has a bad hard drive or fried board. I tried all these things, 2 tvs, 2 hdmi cables. Even after double beep on factory reset there is no signal to tv. Anyway to determine if it is the hard drive or the box is bad?
Most of the time it's HDD then power board then last main board. Check standby volts going to main board.

Thanks dude.... this is by far the best video i have seen on PS3 reset. But my current issue is that none of my bluetooth device is connecting with my PS3.
I have got a 150gb PS3, and have had no problems with it what so ever, apart from yesterday when I went to play it.
I found that none of my bluetooth devices are now working with the PS3... this includes an original non dualshock controller, dualshock controller, jabra bluetooth headset, and a BD Remote...
The controllers work fine when the USB cable is plugged into the PS3... but it doesnt work wirelessly...
I have tried the reset controller thing, but doesnt seem to fix it...
Also, I saw that the 802.11 and bluetooth connectivity are on the same chip?, but 802.11g wireless is working fine... its just the bluetooth connection thats not working...
Does anyone know how I can fix it?

Its absolutely ridiculous that Sony did NOT make the PS3 as durable as it should. I bought a used PS3 and a large amount of games, and the PS3 freezes while I boot up half of my games. So I bought another PS3 (different model) and that one does the same thing! I'm seriously irritated, seems like bad hardware... but at least I know how to reset it correctly without corrupting the data, thanks for the video.
I have a solution if this is happing to your Ps3 you turn it on and its red and then your press its green for 2 seconds and then it turns off like no red it's just turn off so the thing you do is take the hard drive out from your ps3 and then if you have air conditioner put the hard drive next to it or you can just put air on it yourself and then make sure you clean it.
this works for ps3 slim and fat ones.

I have already tried to reset the video setting but it does not work.

my PS3 is the flat oval shaped one.. when ever im playing Black ops 2 on it in campaign.. when it brings up the first level.. it usually freezes during the cutscene or menu.... How can i make it stop this?

if you want to stop it freezing do the 3rd way and press yes and then there should be a thing say press x then sigh in your account don't worry if its zoomed out then if you go to gta 5 it should stop freezing like if it worked

here is something unique , gift Ps3 slim turns on 4 sec later shuts down , watched videos ,got thermal paste compound, cleaned everything , reassembled ,unit works, disk loader making unusual noise when inserting disk, took cover off messed with center spindle till something clicked , disk engauged smooth running , game loads , played for hour with case cover off , put the cover back on , system shuts off like before , 4 sec, got pssd , removed cover , unit starts runs fine , assuming it may be a short somewhere when putting cover on enclosure ?
would I be able to get to that screen without the original PlayStation 3 controller? cause I have the Battle Field 4 controller for the PlayStation 3
