Follow the steps below to try and solve any webcam issues in Zoom preventing your camera video from working.
• Ensure Video is turned on in Zoom.
• Make sure your webcam is plugged in and turned on.
• Ensure you have the correct webcam selected in Zoom
• Ensure your webcam is not being used by any other applications on your PC. I recommend closing any apps on your computer that do not need to be open.
• Try connecting your webcam to another USB port.
• Restart your computer or laptop.

my problem was "only one application can use the webcam". Turned off the other application and boom! Problem fixed! Thanks men.

Thank you so much. Through your video I discovered that my FaceTime build-in camera can only be used by one app at a time. I went to Forced Quit and found that Preview app was on. The moment I closed that app, my video came on in Zoom. No where else was this information disclosed until I found your How to video. So a great big THANK YOU from me. 🙏

Thanks for posting this video! I'm a teacher trying to help a student get their webcam turned on in Zoom. The student has an Acer Chromebook. The student can open links to zoom, join meetings, link audio, see others webcams, screen share, but can not turn on their video for me to see them.
We've made sure the camera on the chromebook works, the newest verison of chrome is being used, all other applications are off, and looked through the settings. Any thoughts on what the issue could be? Have you heard of this problem happening often with chromebooks?
Virtual background is perfectly clear - however, my image in the foreground appears 'shaky or blurred' around the edges. Is there a way to correct that?

In previous Zoom Meetings, I was able to view others, but nobody was able to view me. The light on my webcam was active, as well as displaying through video settings.
Funny enough, I would bring up the video settings and share my screen so folks could see me as a work around.
I performed a "Zoom Meeting Test", which appears to be a connection to a PC that shares its desktop to show what my webcam is displaying to other meeting participants.
For this test, I was able to see myself. However, I will return to comment after an actual zoom meeting to verify webcam is working for other participants ability to view me.
my camera is always acting up on my chromebook, i click on the video and it doesnt even turn on and it worries me

I followed all the setting instructions but when you scroll the app list allowing the camera to be used, it does not show that Zoom is there. The camera will not work during zoom meetings. It does work when i am video chatting on facebook.
HI I am using the camera on my tablet, and I can see myself. I do not have an external camera. The problem is that my image is pixelated. The background is sharp, my image is blurry. Any suggestions?

Paul Clark, that's a good tip to watch for. Not my problem as my setup is more recent, but not to say it couldn't happen again with WIndows updates!
I found my solution from a helpful person commenting in another website. My Kaspersky Total Security had Webcam Protection on, so I turned it off by going into the Privacy Protection setting in Kaspersky. Or, you can leave the protection on and unblock webcam access for Zoom specifically.

Great video, but my problem is the video freezes up randomly, and there appears to be a video lag about 2 minutes after the audio.
I followed your clear instructions to the letter. Still can't get my Samsung video camera to be found on Zoom. The camera is about eight years old. I also tried my Samsung android phonw, a couple of years old, no joy. Any usggestions?

It so happened that another computer user had accessed the web cam from his account. By restarting the computer (a Mac) all active connections to the camera were reset and turned of.

Unfortunately I STILL need Help in getting the video to work-- still just getting a BLACK SCREEN FOR THE VIDEO feed.
I have drilled down into the Device Manager video controllers and everything seems to be working properly .. but it doesn't work!! I have been updating regularly and the video driver was last updated in July 2020.
I have wasted SOO much time on this so far - considering this is supposed to be a "plug and play" device!! -- NOT!
All that said. This is the first video I have finally found that actually digs deep enough to HELP fix part of this problem!!
Thank You so much "Gauging Gadgets". -- and also for the comments and replies that have also helped me to tweak my settings. I have discovered many more settings within Windows that have been preventing my use of a new web cam/microphone.
I FINALLY got the mic on the webcam to work. I don't know which combination of settings worked, but something finally clicked. I think the final trick was to set the usb mic to be my system default.

When I went to settings according to your steps, it has Zoom Meetings and the last time it was accessed, whereas yours has Zoom Currently in use which was two days ago when I was in a meeting and it didn't work. But it did before on a separate meeting. So I guess I should restart the computer before my next meeting?

I was watching a recording of my zoom class to take my notes, and I saw my face was frozen and it showed it but my camera was off the whole time? I’ve always been noticing when I’m about to join my class my camera flashes and when they let me in my camera is automatically on

Turns out that the camera's auto zoom is faulty i.e. it's a mechanical issue rather than a software issue.
That was it! I had the camera running on another app. Thanks for the info.

My zoom camera works when it is one on one meeting but it does not work when a group joins the meeting. It says 'Failed to start the video camera. Please select the another video camera in Setting'. I don't know how to fix that.

I have this problem with zoom is like, when I click for my camera to turn on, it wont turn on. Then I'll restart my zoom and the camera button would not be there anymore. I don't know what to do anymore.
I am trying to use my iPhones camera for a painting demo. I have Zoom on my computer and joined meeting with my phone. The output on the camera is VERY delayed. What do you suggest?

Hi, I have a logitech c930, when I use zoom the camera works, but it doesn't allow hd mode. What is the problem?
Hi, thanks for the video! After updating to the latest version of Zoom now I can no longer find the external camera (DSLR connected via Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder), Zoom identify the microphone part, but not the camera. The DSLR is successfully connected to other apps such as Skype, but not to Zoom. Any advice on this please? Thank you!
CreativeCreations.tv I’ve had the same issue I’ve been troubleshooting for the last 4 hours after a zoom meeting which I could only use Mac webcam, I updated zoom after my last meeting on Tuesday and used a camcorder multiple times before that now it detects it only in the mic testing section but not video settings so frustrating
Okay re-read your comment and I too use the BM mini recorder I looked at OBS as an option but you have to use camtwist and remove SIP which I didn’t think would be a wise compromise so it comes down to the only change being the latest zoom update
Same thing for me, my Wifi webcam is not recognized anymore after zoom update. Still visible in quicktime and other applications. Re-installed older version of zoom (4.5.4) and then it works. Re-installed latest version of zoom (4.6.10) and it doesn't work. Re-installed older version and it works, will have to keep using the old version for now...

I've got one stubborn camera that USED to work last year but stopped working. I thought it was dead so bought a replacement. Then I noticed that the camera software in W10 still saw through it, so Zoom is ignoring this camera. Weirdly, Zoom is happy to work with a Sony Playstation EyeToy camera (with the driver installed manually)! Any suggestions? I've even tried reinstalling Zoom as one website mentioned.
Hi! My wife is a principal and has to have zoom meetings several times a week. Her video and audio have been freezing up regularly. We have shut down other programs running in the background. The WIFI connection should be more than ample. She uses the computer camera and computer mic. Can you help?

I went to my troubleshooter for video but was unable to use the troubleshooter which is odd. any other ideas? Sometimes during a call I can see myself (through the little screen) but the person on the other end can't see me. I've tried all the solutions in this, as well as re-installing zoom but it's still random whether it works or not.

I was using my phone as a document camera during my class teaching 30 7th graders on zoom. It worked when one attendee was present, then did not work when I tried it with the whole class numerous times later. Any ideas on what went wrong? It's EpocCam. Thanks!
I have checked all of the items in this video, however, I still have an intermittent problem with my camera in zoom. Suddenly the camera freezes of its own accord and the slash through the icon at the bottom of my screen appears there without my changing it. Sometimes the screen goes blank or there are lines across it. When I try to turn the video back on again, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Do you think this is a hardware or software problem? I have a Windows Lenovo Yoga.
Using Windows 7 still, internal camera. The video works if I'm doing a one-on-one but not being recognized in group Zooms, although it used to work. Did Zoom make a change in the past several weeks regarding recognizing the video?
I only have the built in camera on my laptop. None of the things suggested fixed it. Zoom doesn't show up as an app under "choose which app" in settings. This issue started when I was on a zoom meeting on my phone which was dying - when I turned on in my computer instead and was trying to turn off the phone zoom I accidentally ended the meeting for all. When I started a new zoom meeting on the computer the camera wasn't recognized. Yesterday worked fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled zoom, turned everything off in task manager, restarted my computer etc. Nothing worked. ANy other suggestions?
My webcam works in a zoom but the colours are way off. Using MS 10 camera (part of original software) there is no way to white balance. Do I have to download another camera app? If so, which one?.

Thanks for your extremely clear and detailed description of sorting out my webcam problem. Unfortunately, both this and your later and more in-depth description also failed. My laptop is a Lenovo B50-70 with built-in webcam/camera. It works fine in Skype. In Zoom, on selecting Settings/Video the camera light comes on straight away, but no amount of tweaking or changing settings gives me a picture. Strangely, I have had it working - briefly...... but on next boot up - back to 'black' screen. The camera shown in the drop down box in Zoom is a Lenovo EasyCamera, and I have tried installing the latest Lenovo camera driver, innumerable times, but I suspect this is not being used by the camera once I re-boot the laptop. Every time I end up with the EasyCamera option. There is no webcam, as such in the Windows Devices, just and Imaging option with EasyCamera. I've tried uninstalling Zoom, and all the camera drivers/settings, re-boot, install the Lenovo .exe driver file, install Zoom again, and get back to the black screen. This is just a nightmare. Would be very grateful if you could think of something else, please !? Ian
