The binary on the Darkplates 2.0 is the entire cease & desist letter from Sony
Damn
YOURE KIDDING I-
It’s just bullying now
The dark plates do look better than what sony did tho
Damn nvm I don’t like the vent
I ordered the dbrand dark plates and i have been beyond satisfied with my order. Thank you for doing this experiment it was very helpful.
Thank you for doing the temperature comparison, but word of advice you should really be using the stand if you want to have the console vertically. That’s why both consoles were running so hot at the bottom
I agree with having the stand attached when doing these kind of tests. The stand keeps it more secure and ventilated for better results. I honestly got nervouse not seeing the stand attached to both systems. Otherwise, I respect the video qmd purpose. Helps a lot.
Better yet don’t stand it vertical I was told by a tech under no circumstances have it vertical
There has been some conflicts of the system not working in Vertical Position, but that is not always the same issue for everyone. Just need to keep it clean and well handled with care. Just like any other system, it has to be maintaned to work more efficiently and effectively. Plus, the Horizontal Position is not entirely secure as in Vertical. If there was a way for the stand to hold more intently or off brand stands to do the same, I would have it that way.
@@MrDannyboyhall that’s bs, only some VERY FEW defective units may have a bad sealing in liquid cooling, and the problem will happen with both orientations if it is one of those. Yes you can totally have it vertical.
@@GAGRA0 I wouldn’t just wait Sony will be releasing a redesign very soon as they know the problem coming they are currently redesigning the system watch this space bro
I really like the Dark Plates grey, a throwback to the PS1 color. I hope Sony eventually comes out with that color and some retro branding on the plates.
I personally like the look of the darkplates better. I think the shape paired with the vent makes it look more futuristic.
I hate the rounded edges tbh...but I do want the extra cooling.
@@John-X same
I find it odd people are against the curved edges literally matching the system. Idk what Sony was thinking with that look
@@myst8217 It just makes it look boring. Like round Spongebob.
@@John-X Nah you bugging lol. Looks nice & clean not pointed & flat
Literally EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thank you!
Man I've been wanting the darkplates 2.0 since u made the uncovering video! Over all I think it looks better.. Also I love ur videos so keep it up Pops.
Idk man the curvature of them looks weird to me. Like I can't exactly pick out what's wrong it just doesn't feel right. But it's not awful, definitely catches the eye.
@@mynameiswalterhartwellwhite420 the popped collar of the original is horrendous
@@mynameiswalterhartwellwhite420 its the same curvature as the middle lol. what do you even mean? the base design is horrible period. dark plates are most certainly an improvement.
Excellent video! Looking for more even handed reviews without too much commentary. Good balance getting your point across. I got the Dark Plates 2.0 and like the look better than the 1980’s pop up collar look of the PS5 original plates.
Exactly what I was looking for thank you!!
External temps aren't a bad thing. In fact if the back of the console is hotter, then that means the cooling is working to pull the heat off the system. Internal temp readings or bust.
Exactly. It would be much more important to know what the temperatures inside are like. If less heat comes out the back, then this can mean that higher temperatures build up inside in places that you don't want. I would keep my hands off these covers.
Honestly, besides the obvious boost to cooling, I prefer the Darkplates 2.0 to PlayStation's plates. They make the PS5 more streamlined and less like a lopsided binder or popped collar look.
Ratio they look ugly imo
@@joshher92 double ratio no they dont
@@TylerThomasArt yeah they do the old ones were better they took an L for this one
@@joshher92 nah you take the L of overheating since you prefer garbage looks vs performance lmao
@@joshher92 I find the Darkplates 2.0 to look ugly as well. But at the end of the day it is all just opinion. Just because some people find it be ugly does not mean the everyone will find it to be ugly.
I have the dbrand dark plates and I am very pleased with them. I love the way they look. Great video young sir, thank you.
Just curious what are your favorite games on the ps5 ?
@@TXSuplex Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, Witcher 3 just to name a few. Actually lately I've been so entrenched in Starfield, that I haven't played my PS5 in a long time. But I will be back.
Been using Darkplates 2.0 since Nov also ordered the official plates
Thanks for the info bro!
Both should be tested on the same console, if you’ve ever done experiments in the laboratory you’ll know that for the thing you want to compare all the other variables must be the same
Especially because there are 3 different fans. And the new PS5’s have a smaller heat sink I believe.
@@FISHFLYZZ yes but the smaller heatsink makes it hotter but because of the new fan it dont change anything
Dosent take a Einstein to know more airflow = more cooling
@@alejammi Doesn't take an Einstein to know that there are more factor's involved then just airflow going on here
great comparison🙌
There’s not a lot of vids about the dark plates 2.0 comparison. So thx
The matte black skin for the middle was one of the best purchases I’ve made for the ps5. It saves me from all of the fingerprints and microscratches
oh god the scratches from charging your controller. they are a nightmare
@@grandmascreampie5372 i got the robot camo. can't stop looking at it. and yeah it really makes me wonder wtf is going on in meetings in any form of western media now a days. they seem to make every wrong decision possible. talking about the original middle plate obv. it's horrific in every single way. feel bad for ppl that still deal with it
Where you get the middle skins from?
Left the video to order the exact same dark plates 2.0 setup you have, then immediately came back to finish watching the video 😂🤙 never knew they existed before today.
Thank you bro, this video was amazing! Thanks😃!
Thank you for the review
I ordered the Darkplates before watching this video and this definitely reassured me abt my purchase. I can’t wait to get them delivered.
I got the D brand original plates cause I had em preordered before they came out and they’re badass
So dope man I love it
I am noticing that neither of the PS5s are on the stand which allows for air circulation around the bottom when vertical. I would have liked to see what the difference would be with that addition, the way it was intended. That and one is disk and one is digital, that surely makes a difference in cooling?
Just bought my darkplates 2.0 in PS1 grey with an Obsidian skin and sky blue strips. So stoked for them to get here. Not only does it customize the look I want the console to be less bulky. It's kind of an eyesore.
I got all gold
Great video man
I have the dark plate 2.0 by Dbrand as I like the top aligns with top and mid. I love the vent design, but Sony has designed the console to push air out of the back, rear bottom and top so I wonder if the Dbrand side vents actually allow better airflow.
Well, dbrands covers keep the console cooler, so, I would say that dbrands actually also allow better air flow.
@@vicvancen With more shit and dust able to get in!
@@waynekieft4952 fym
Is a gimmick
Just ordered the 2.0. I only wanted a black PS5 idc about the vent but as a bonus I love that the corners are streamlined. I hate the way it looks now, like a lopsided middle school binder
lol a middle school binder.
Dbrand dark plates are so effing awesome. I love mine!
I just ordered the darkplates with the red LEDs it looks awesome...much better than the official whites which are meh..
I really like the vent, If it keeps it cool I love it
Oh my gosh that Dbrand 2.0 Black is off da chain
The only issue is horizontal stands no longer work if you go that way.
Awesome video🤙🏽
Yup was looking for something different and I found it thanks now just the fancy controller and I'm set
I like the functionality of the DP 2.0, but I prefer the look of the official black plates myself.
I also have a sticker on my system, and those midnight black plates look fantastic!
That cutout has has no benefit for cooling over the stock plates. That fan is only for intake, and the vents on the front of the console direct air to it.
@SenseOfReality Clearly you need too. Learn how the cooling system on the PS5 works then talk. It doesn't suck in air directly above the fans, it does it at an angle. That's why the vents on a stock PS5 are where they are. This is just a marketing gimmick from Dbrand.
@SenseOfReality people like you talk like you’re so much more important than you actually are lol
@@r.o.o.k. you have to consider that the PS5 was designed around form *and* function. The designers and the engineers had to compromise on look vs efficiency. And having the sides covered-no matter how many fun angles and twists and turns you put in the side panels-is going to be less efficient.
Think of a watering can. Designed to get water onto your plants with a slender curve to the spout. But all the cute design in the world can't change the fact that you'd make the water flow a hell of a lot faster if you punch a fat hole in the side.
Back to the darkplates, a hole through the panel means less resistance and therefore the fans can pull in more air with less effort and noise.
I still think the default design in black is the better look, but I can't deny that dbrand objectively offers better airflow.
@@bloodbond3 but is the air traveling across the boards the same being pulled from the side not through the system
Curious how this darkplates since it’s immediate access for cooler air with the grill but it gets rid of the cooling negative air pressure for the m.2 slot.
I was thinking the same I have a 6tb nvme and if it gets destroyed from overheating I would be so angry
The darkplates are kind of a gamechanger as I hate the original design of the ps5 but I wish they came in that red color, that looks sick with the red plates and black center
I'm looking at the light strips rn and see the matte black and thought dark Saber from SW 😄.
Thanks for this.
Appreciate it bruh, stopped to watch this first while the dark plates sitting in the cart lol
Hoping my dark plates come in within the next week and a half. The January shipment was delayed a few days To a week I guess . Also waiting on my flaming toast retro controller decal! Can’t wait! Great video as always !
Same here, looking forward to seeing this new skin they adding due to delay
@@Pied-Piper79 I only ordered the plates and didn’t hear about a new skin , but hope yours is awesome
@@Pied-Piper79 Which new skin?
A1 work!
Great video I much prefer the d plates they simply look better.
Great video but I wish you put in the effort to check temp on the same console since one of them is a disc drive may run hotter
Darkplates are great for the extra vents but sadly they only make em for the disc model and not my digital version
Great video but to make this respectable you should be comparing them on the same console, and also, you should also be measuring the internal temperatures (like The Gamers Nexus does) alongside the external temperatures :)
They are the same console lmao. Unless you mean because one has a disc drive and one doesn’t? If the disc drive doesn’t have a disc the drive isn’t even doing anything. So I don’t think that would really matter.
@@JustThePR No, thats not what he meant. Each console are not created equally. So some can be hotter than others lol. Console gamer are dumb as always, don't know anything at all lol
@@JustThePR CFI-1000 had 3 different fans in it acting as variable factors, CFI-1100 interior cooling system as well as several components was redesigned also another variable factor, meaning the only way to get proper consistent results would be if the tests were done in the same console not the way it was done
That black plate is so smooth
Do you notice fan noise more with the dark plates? I would assume the PS plates dampen the noise more than an open hole
I think it's the fact that Dark Plates combined a passive cooling solution with an active one while PlayStation on focused on the active
Fun fact: the Binary on the inside of the Darkplate is actually the cease and desist letter Dbrand got from Sony.
I was kinda concerned it would force all the air out of one vent, but I'm glad that doesn't seem to be the case.
What?
I love the video. However... to my knowledge seeing more heat leave the console is better because that would mean there is less heat inside the console. I could be wrong though.
No
That can be the case, but it depends on alot of factors that we aren't accounting for here. More heat out is always good but if the console is running significantly cooler inside then the air being pushed out will reflect this. Now if we did an actual fan upgrade or other cooling upgrade like a better heating ect.. then we would see cooler Temps across the board both internally and externally no questions asked.
Not necessarily, when you have more cooling air coming in will also result in a lower temp going out, this is why a solid intake really matters.
Merci pour ta vidéo, je vais prendre les plaques Durant.😉🙏
I love the white original covers on my PS5 , I got my ps5 on Thursday it’s the CFI-1215a would one of these aftermarket covers fit ?
Love the review, do you know much about the company Foamy Lizard? They have some nice looking side plates. I just ordered my PS5 and waiting for that but wanted to get those possibly before it shows up.
I bought the black darkplates version 2.0 it's exactly as you state the cooling is so much better it's put Sony to shame really.
They Even look much better they take it to another level.
Thanks for your videos love them 👍
Just got a set myself.
@@myst8217 Awesome I bet you can't stop looking at that ps5 now ..
Theirs also a fan speed controller on eBay that's a nice little Cooling upgrade 👍
Can't wait for my darkplates 2.0. Once they get here this month I'm selling the OG 1.0 plates that are now extremely rare because sony told them to hault production of the 1.0s....
Those Dbrand plates with ring LEDs would look sick 😷
Great video! Im going dark plates. May I ask about the honeycomb lights on the wall in the background? Those are cool. I'd like to find those
Dark Plate 2.0 however, I did purchase the official PS5 Black Plates before i left the country. I wish i had known about dBrand Plates before hand. Nice video, now I know.
Thanks For the Video! This is OWSOM!!!
i know im late to the game here, but how about the noise? Because of the vent design does it cause the console to be a bit louder of does the air ventilation cause to the console to quite down?
I love the vents
Good video thank you 😊
When you go from Fahrenheit to Celsius it actually doesn’t get that hot my gaming pc (it’s the same equivalent of the ps5) under heavy load gets to 70c on gpu and 60 to 65c on cpu if you look at operating temps for these pieces 120f is 48c that’s normal range even for ps5 so is the vented panels really worth the extra cash or is it just aesthetic reasons?
I have got the dark plates got mine from Amazon. Mine are the same shape as the originals
I personally have the 2.0 DarkPlates and there awesome 😎 and practical 👍👍👍
I went with the Official Sony crimson red disc version. Every generation of Playstation has been black (except ps1)...I wanted something different this time. The only colors available when I purchased them on the weekend was Red and Black.
Oof... Those Darkplates look stealthy as fudge. Looks incredible. I really like the vent, really and it serves a great purpose!
And I painted my white plates black 😉 looks badass and I don't have an extra plates pair just laying around
The dark plates are 🔥 I have both ps5 black and dark plates 2.0 are 🔥🔥
Howd you get that design in the black central part with the chrome logo and stuff repeated. 1:02
Definitely buying a 2.0 plate thanks man
You should get the PlayStation 5 midnight black plates from PlayStation itself they are out now
I’ve been rocking the dark plates 2.0 just because In my opinion they look better
So I put mine on it's side for the entertainment system what stand would work in that situation?
Just got my dark plates looks pretty good imo
Great vid my brother. I just have a quick question can u use the disc shell on a digital system.
Ima just drill some holes in my regular plates for the extra cooling
Is the part with the Logo compatible between digital and disc PS5's?
Asking for a friend but has a anybody ran without the plates on I know it don’t look cool but it might run cooler maybe?
i get the spiderman plates from dbrand tomorrow. but this difference in temp. is insane 10 degrees is -12.2222222 degrees Celsius. thats a HUGE DIFFERENCE
I would like to see the aftermarket cooling system/remote charger be tested as well
Fine if u dont have an ssd installed but the face plate originall disign had in mind to have airflow through the sides so the ssd would get cooled and with the big fan entry hole theres no airflow to that ssd whitch is one of the hottest points on the ps5? Test my thoughts on this plz
Even with the dust filter can it still get into the fan?
my ps5 shuts down whenever i play a game either its due to overheat or software error im not sure but imma soon grab a black or white darkplate cover
Can I ask about the led light strips? I bought some (not from brand) and they don't seem to go on right. How did you get them to look so perfect?
I got the red lughtbstrips from Dbrand with my DP's and i had to mess with the strips a bit to get them right. Pretty much have to run them right along the edge of the PS5 for them to sit perfect. If you dont youll get color from the original lights coming through. I also rubbed them with a micro fiber cloth and ran my finger nail lightly along the PS5 light bar to make sure they stuck good
damn that darkplate is pretty dope
@simplypops I know I'm late but is it possible to show a video with ps5 plates (top) with Dbrand plates (bottom) like in a horizontal style please.
Will a regular ps5 case work with the dark plates ?
Definitely want to make the system run smoothly overall so I'd definitely go with the D-plates
What monitor do you use for your ps5
I have one on Pre-Order as well but i doubt it very much that the "vents" does anything to significant. I wish more people would to temp tests of Darkplate 2
Yea the vents arent directly over the fan so yea no advantage
@@imaycare5927 I pre ordered mine October 2021 and I just Received it yesterday (7Feb2022)
I wish I could have the darkplates just with one tweak - the logo cutout for PS5. I'd actually be willing to cut the logo out of the darkplates just to have the aesthetic.
How do you install the LED strips?
Ordered my darkplates 2.0. Can’t wait to install on my PS5 with the light strips. Way better aftermarket look than the OG ps5 covers which is super bulky and has jagged edges.
Just bought the 2.0 because of this video. Thank you for the thermal shots as wellI. I like the PS5 as a piece of tech but i find its design truly horrendous, so much so that if i could put it in a closed cabinet just to not have it in my field of view i would. It's hideous, especially in white. From your video though, the dbrand plates make it look super cool. Hope it's the same in person.
Does anyone know if there’s a horizontal stand that’s fits the dbrand
Plates?
I got the Dplates 1.0 and 2.0, honestly, the 1.0 black was sick, but i never really liked the frame, when they came out with the slimmer 2.0, i was all over that. I think it looks better, vents better, and its just not as ugly as the sony plates
that's the key phrase, not as ugly. i have darkplates 2.0 as well but let's face it, the ps5 is just ugly af no matter what. but mine at least looks a lot better than it did
