I found the video this song came from on Aug 23 2023. I loved it and went searching for this song which I found shortly after. At the time of writing it is Aug 31 2023.
4 days after watching this video and 4 days before it popped back up in my recommended I lost my Dad to a massive heart attack.
I'm not the superstitious type but I will admit that I find George's words very comforting right now.
My Dad was nobody if not someone who could make you laugh or smile and I would like to think that he went to sleep that night knowing how much love he had put into the world and how much love we all had for him.
He poured everything he had into giving me and my sisters the best life he could and by God did he do it.
So to everybody out there who really needs to know what the meaning of life is or worry about how you'll be remembered; the answer is love.
Because even though my Dad will never know his grandkids, they will know he was the best husband, father, brother, and friend anybody in our family had.
You did good Dad. You did damn good.

Well, the lyrics were always intentionally meant to be a bit melancholic. It's about being a kid with a curious mind and having the enthusiasm to solve and find things which people (adults) say can't be solved or found. The end of the song, the singer hopes that enthusiastic feeling never leaves them because they're finding that things aren't always what they seem. It's actually quite profound and this cover turned those lyrics into something more real and sad using the same words. I love this version too! In fact, Jack Johnson actually wrote the original version for a more grown audience. The original was called "Whos to say" and you can find it here on RUclips too.
@@davida6146 I went into this thinking it would be funny to turn this feel good Jack Johnson song into a more serious ballad, but quickly realized the emotion was already there in the song, and so I just leaned into that.
