Hopefully they can do a settings patch.
Will be watching this series with quite a bit of interest as the Evercade has quite an appeal for me.
A few Coleco carts would get me on board!
Super to pull this out at the coffee shop!
    Centipede a 4??
That was one of my favourites.
Would love to see Berzerk on a cart.
    Cool vid!

Hi Crow. Fantastic video. I didn't think you would get into the Evercade as much as you have when you first dismissed it. I think the success of the Evercade rests on whether the devs are willing to keep going with the console and release more fresh ports, maybe even original games. Or are they just content that it is a novelty for retro gamers? I have been suprised that they HAVE released some new cartridges, including Lynx games. So maybe they are more serious about this handheld than people give then credit for. It seems to be a bit more than what people assumed it was.

  • @Steelebourne

Have they added the difficulty switch options to the handheld yet? I can't find anything, and I have the newest firmware (2.0.2). They're sometimes necessary to get the most out of games like Adventure.

Can I just say -as someone new to the Evercade- this is exactly what I'm looking for, informative, intelligent and useful. Keep up the fantastic work!

Asteroids 2600 drives me crazy. There are serious bugs with the hitboxes of both the player and the asteroids that make it hard to enjoy. As with most 2600 games, some of the alternate modes improve it a lot over the default.

I like the Evercade. Fun system.
    That said:
Canyon Bomber, Tempest, EarthWorld and Night Driver should NOT have made the cut. Crystal Castles and Desert Falcon barely. If you’re going to give us crap games, at least give us the ones that are so bad they’re actually interesting: like E.T. (Licensing, i would bet, but still)? Or what about solid 2600 titles like Defender II, Phoenix, Demon attack, or its KILLER APP: Space Invaders? Like Missile Command and Centipede, these are games that are still enjoyable today.
The lack of ACTIVISION titles makes me think that there will be a separate cart for those.
The 7800 games are fine. The Atari 7800 is actually the system I grew up with, and I had about a 50-50 mix of 7800/2600 titles for it. So, I love seeing the 7800 ones on here.

Nicely done. I’d rate the same as you on most of the games. Food Fight is always going to be a favorite and Aquaventure is a lot of fun

I have an Atari flashback and a Jaguar that is it from Atari. What is the difference between a flashback and this? I don’t have any nostalgia towards the 2600 cause it was before my time. I wanted to get a Lynx, but the prices are ridiculous now.

Evercade is a handheld. The cartridge with Lynx games is coming out in November. For me, the Lynx games are the reason to buy the Evercade.

I just got an evercade for on amazon for used less than 60.00 because wanted to get 7800 games. Why does this Atari collection has more 2600 games than 7800 games?

@@CrowContinuum, I agree 100%. I grew up with the 7800-I would love to see a dedicated 7800 cart: Rampage, Joust, Pole Position II, One-On-One, to name a few (other great 7800 titles may be covered with other carts, like Namco); if they could work out a way to get some of the Nintendo brand games (like DK Jr, DK and Mario Bros--three of my favorites on the system) plus some of those exciting new home brews, that’d be sweet.....

The never put Midnight Magic on these collections & it blows away Video Pinball. If you haven't tried it., try it. It was a later release I bought it to play on my 7800 when it came out

The inferior versions of certain games (Tempest for 2600 is horrible) and the double dipping are my biggest issues with the Evercade, but I find it hard to get too mad because the carts are pretty cheap and compared to anything released by Limited Run Games, for example, are decent value for money.

  • @openskiesmedia

Aquaventure is one of my favorite 2600 games. It's bizarre to think that it was never released. It's one of the cartridges Atari is releasing in their first lineup of Atari XP games and I'm getting a physical copy... for three times the cost of this whole collection. :|

    My ratings for Atari #1:
    Adventure-4
    Alien Brigade-4
    Aquaventure-3
    Asteroids-3
    Canyon Bomber-1
    Centipede-3
    Crystal Castles-3
    Desert Falcon-3
    Double Dunk-2
    Gravitar-4
    Food Fight-5
    Missile Command-5
    MotorPsycho-3
    Ninja Golf-4
    Night Driver-2
    Steeplechase-1
    Swordquest-1
    Tempest-1
    Video Pinball-2
    Yars Return-4
    Total: 58 Average: 2.9
Discussion: similar ratings as collection 2, but more swingy...that is I think there are more 4/5 games here, but also more 1/2 games than collection #2 which had a lot of 3s for me.
Two “Excellect” games here: Food Fight, which is my second favorite Atari 7800 game from back in the day (second to Ms PacMan), and Missile Command, a quintessential 2600 game
Adventure and Ninja Golf get 4s here because they are different and has some fun quirks about them.
Asteroids, Centipede, and Desert Falcon are all 3s-they get 4s on their 7800 versions.
Alien Brigade, Yars Return and Gravitar are nice selections.
Then it gets ugly. Canyon Bomber, Tempest, Steeplechase, Swordquest are awful. Night Driver barely squeaks by. Sub those out for things like Phoenix 2600, Demon Attack 2600, Berserk 5200, Montexuma’s Revenge 5200 and Rampage 7800, and we’d be in business.
Summary: There are tons more titles on the 2600 that are superior to many of the ones they have given us. ACTIVISION, the 5200, and Atari 8 bit are noticeably missing here, not to mention the Jaguar. I don’t regret having this collection: there’s fun to be had with some of the better 2600 titles, and since my family was one of those with a 7800 back in the late 80s, I really like the inclusion of those titles-just wished they had more of those and less of the crappy filler.

Why didn’t they just release Atari Flashback Classics like they did for the Switch? That has 150 games in one cart.
