The playability of the Ninjago series has always been great. This set is no exception.
As a sailor, it’s really cool to see Lego making catamarans, especially in a mainstream theme like Ninjago. And you gotta love the value of this set!
Ninjago has always been one of the coolest, most interesting themes and to see just how much it’s developed is crazy.

Excellent point about the Star Wars sets pricing versus sets like these. You're spot on about what you get with the sets just because they CAN charge more for those Star Wars sets even though you're not getting what you pay for.
I think the worst part is the playability, not much you can do with the starfighter set besides fly it and shoot some stud shooters.
yeah, me as mainly lego star wars collector hates how they milk it... Sets are pretty cool, but you just get So much extra playability/minifigs with other themes
The fact that LEGO made Grievous' fighter $80 shocked 🤣... it looked to my like a $35-$40 set... as far as your review however, I don't think I disagree on any of the points, very well done!

This reminds me of a playset from bionicle in 2006 called Race for the Mask of Life (set nr. 8624).

The Islanders’ boat reminds me a bit of Rock Raiders, in a very good way.
Imagine if they made the islanders actually clear purple, like they were in the Island series, then they would be 1 million times better, cause clear minifigures are amazing

I would usually go for the playset as my favorite of the wave but these are pretty epic

I haven’t caught any of the new shows yet, but I’m looking forward to watching them with my daughter as always. She hates LEGO Friends but absolutely loves Nya and Zane. You take your wins where you can.
I like the fact they have X2 equally good size builds for both sizes. This way you can buy one set and have great battles!

I guess that might me the reason why LEGO decided to move exclusive female minifigures from the most expensive sets to medium/small sets or to tweak it in general.

I really wish that this set had better minifigures, cause you can get all of the Ninja and enemies by getting the cheaper sets, meaning that the only reason to get it is the vehicles, which are fantastic
catamaran definition: a group-sized jet ski with a mast.
Wow title is on point, without the sail it’s a killer speeder(or more modded a Spaceship👍👍) bad guys are okay but to make it look a lil better having two sails that one and a tail one(lil smaller obviously)
The shape of the red one reminds me (surely more than inspiration..) to Eldar falcon in warhammer 40k.. btw the lizard emblem is more than inspired by lizardmen..
Kai’s boat looks like something out of Hydro Thunder especially with the transformation
Kai's craft reminds me of an old video game Hydro Thunder. One boat was a saucer looking design that split like that in Turbo mode.
The enemy craft looks like they went a little further. Like the designers could have done snapping shark jaw but decided to go further and do the teeth.
Well if we can't have a Pirates of Dark Water theme we can at least pretend with this one.

I could see myself buying the set for Kais catamaran, and do a custom space ship with it
While it is absurd that the Master of Fire now has two water vehicles, Kai's catamaran is certainly refreshing in design.
In the show the islanders are trans purple/lavender. Would be cool to have them all more accurate to the show, but I’m sure they would be more expensive having a full transparent or translucent figure.

The middle part of the large catamaran literally looks like a shark!
I’m no ninjago fan but I must say that islanders boat and those minifigs looks great and that color scheme makes them really pop. In comparison, the Kai’s boat looks pretty plain despise it being a good build. And they should have made the same thing with that sail that they did with the Lloyd’s chopper bike, quite a big miss there!
Kai seems to have forgot that the Katana V11 existed...

Ninjago sets are always fun to get, but it kind of seems to me like Lego is using the Ninjago theme as a vehicle for ideas of potential other themes that might not have been as well recieved on their own, but could have been if they weren't competing against Ninjago. I feel like the Prime Empire stuff would have been a cool full standalone theme itself, the sort of steampunk flying pirates, and these islander guys (which I believe you said were not villians, I dont really follow the show) would make a cool standalone theme as well.
I know from a business standpoint it makes sense to the longevity of the theme to constantly change its aesthetics, and to introduce expiremental things within an already established mega theme.
I just bought it lol, after watching this video.
I like this set because we never get a villian vehicle , we get dragons alot but not vehicles

Speaking of high priced Star Wars sets, the Knights of Ren shuttle almost killed me the last time I was in a toy store : the price was 90CHF, so ~ 70$. 🤮
They might be able to spread out the licensing fees however they want. But the fact is they know people will pay for Star Wars stuff no matter how expensive they make it. Less so for their non-licensed sets. There is unquestionably a tax on licensed sets. But it is there because fans will pay it. Thankfully all my most favorite sets are unlicensed themes.
I can see the appeal of the set but I just cant get behind it, a unique vehicle for nNnjago but I feel my money will be spent better on the keepers village for around £20 cheaper, I could also put that towards the jungle chopper bike getting 2 out of the 3 sets I want from this wave.
That would be SW without the Disney tax.
Tough choice between the Keeper's Village and this set for me. I really like the catamaran builds, but the village is cheaper and has the exclusive Cole. I really just want Chief Mammatus honestly.
I've seen this set go as far down as $54 on major retailer websites so by that number, this set is definitely worth the price!

The playfeatures are also quite lame for size of the set. Woah the Kai boat expands! And? The expansion should at least allow more figs to stand or uncover something...

Looks like a pretty awesome and fun set. This may be the one modern non-Legacy Ninjago set I’ll get. But dang, they’re still using that stupid movie hair for Kai? I literally can’t take him seriously with that hair. He’s become irreparably a parody of himself.
Yeah, I wish they would make the shorter hair that he has in the show. Tommy Anderaesen even said that they reduced Kai's hair in the show because it looked too ridiculous
