In the DVD, there are 3 "Plotholes" which are basically comic like segments that happened throughout the movie that weren't seen. 1. How Shaun was able to get in through the backdoor and how he assumed he gave them the slip. One zombie actually noticed him which was why there was a whole bunch of them in the back door 2. As most of the comments have said, Diane did survive after David was torn to shreds by hiding in a tree until the military came 3. How Ed after gotten bitten manage to stumble his way into Shaun's shed.
Re Black Books; the flat mate (Peter Serafenowitz) appears as well as Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and Jessica Heynes. The third main character; "Manny" played by comedian Bill Bailey appears as a zombie outside of the Winchester. Also, the character of "Tyres" from Spaced can be spotted as a zombie in the same scene.
There is also the movie Slaughterhouse Rulez. Which is not part of the Cornetto movies, but is another horror comedy spoofing the classic British boarding school. Simon Pegg plays a bumbling housemaster that must wrangle unruly students when bloody murder comes to their upstanding institution.
It’s hilarious how the end of this movie is one of the only zombie movies to accurately depict how a zombie outbreak would end. I get that it’s a better story for the world to end but, in America at least, the amount of firepower sitting around a military base as standard bulk equipment is insane. A few humvees with .50 cal hmgs would end hordes of zombies in less than a minute. The old Gatling gun from the civil war is why “horde armies” and victory through numbers went extinct in modern warfare. A single .50 cal will disintegrate the torso of a zombie and at least the next three zombies behind them. At a rate of hundreds of rounds per minute with a target rich environment like a zombie horde, it’s never becoming an issue beyond that first outbreak. That’s not even considering tanks, helicopters, a-10 warthogs, drones etc… in the modern world there is no way a zombie outbreak would kill the world. Change it massively? Probably but it would be contained and over in a day or two.

Shaun of the Dead is a great horror comedy, as Boom points out a lot of British actors who at the time were only in obscure tv shows that made it big, the one you couldn't get the name of was Matt Lucas, best known for Little Britain but also appeared in Doctor Who, Paddington, Wonka, and the Great British Bake Off. The film works as a more grounded response to a zombie apocalypse, Shaun so stuck in his routine that he barely notices at first. The writing and direction also gets a lot of praise due to the framing, camera movement and foreshadowing, all common traits with the 'Cornetto Trilogy' - alongside having similar castmembers, a fence scene, and a different flavoured cornetto featured.
