I don't mind the slow and steady race, I have a morris truck from 16 years ago, stripped that, originally was going to put a Hayabusa swap, but times have changed, now it will be electric, and willing to learn from your lessons of life :)
@@NewZeroland Was an Outlander PHEV motor, 60kw - imported from England. But that is now going on a daughters split window morris. EV West Tesla kit is now the new Hayabusa, that is for the truck.

Nice work. Most electric conversions run an electric vacuum pump to work the factory vacuum booster. With a car that small it might be more practical to convert to a non boosted master cylinder.
@@NewZeroland I think you will need to do something about garage/storage space first ( A new video series? ). You pretty much need two car spaces to do one car or you are falling over yourself all the time. Or buy/build a new house ( again, video series ) might be quicker. ..??
For your heater core lines, its just a loop through the heater core. You can detatch the lines at the engine side and just loop them together. So the coolant comes out and back in. Unlike that Yamaha rear tire, went out but didn't come back in..😂
Haha yeah! Actually one of the lines taps into the radiator hose up front. I ended up just pulling them off the core and plugging them for now.. until the time comes to pull the engine 😂
I was going to say "sorry to see you'd crashed the Yamaha", but to be honest that's the only way to get quicker. If you're OK and the bike's repairable then you're doing it right. As people used to say back when I was racing - "If you're not crashing *sometimes* then you're not trying hard enough".
Thanks man! You're totally right. Only way to find the edge is to go over it hahaha. I realized what I was doing wrong and hopefully next week's trackday will be better. Sad to say, I'm glad I wasn't on the Energica. That would have been devastating!
Because of the Beat's light weight, there's someone who has done a brake booster delete with reportedly good results (The Beat's stock brake booster is pretty weak anyway). Not sure if that would pass roadworthiness inspection in NZ, but if so, it would save even more weight than going to an electric booster or electric vaccum pump booster.
TRUE! I might try it.. just to see what manual brakes feel like. They'll do a brake test when it gets certified, but you're right.. if it's light enough and I upgrade the brakes, it might be ok.
Glad you're not suffering too much after the bike tumble, and I hear you on Zelda. I don't even have a Switch, but I think I watched someone play it on Twitch for more than 10 hours this week. I guarantee to you that any of Rich Rebuilds conversion projects (either from or to electric) will have taken longer than this will by the time you're done (except maybe the City EL and the amphibious thing recently.) Wow, you got a lot of leg room taking out the AC stuff. I wonder, does that improve or reduce it's crash test rating?
Haha goooood point. Nobody wants an AC core smashed into their legs! It's crazy how much weight you can save so easily, and taking stuff off is addictive. I took off a bit more than I thought I would.. you'll see soon.
Check with your vehicle code of practice (Australia has the NCOP vehicle bulletins) - you may need to provide heating. But that's a different problem...
Ha ha , my motorbike conversion is waaayyyy slower ! And your cat is soooo big 😂. Keep cracking on man , slow and steady wins the race! Grab some big pine blocks of wood ( say 6x4') to use as stands and you can stack them up to just the right height and they dont fall over if you stack them right. Also pop the spare wheel on the ground laying next to you so if it does fall the spare wheel catches the car not you.
Looks like your Beat is fairly rust free. The zebra seats are on most of the beats I have seen here in Japan too. It may be a stock part. It just goes to show how crazy this car was designed.
Haha yep! Some surface rust but nothing major, thankfully. The zebra seats and floor mats came from the factory! I think black seat covers were an option later, but how boring is that??
I'm at the edge of my seat watching this series - is it really 6 months already since the last update? It does look really scary though when you're underneath the jacked up car with no back-up system to hold it up if the jack fails (apart from your chest).
Haha yep, it's taking way longer than I expected. My 5 year goal joke might come true. I'll definitely buy some jack stands for next time. It's a light car but it would still crush me 😂
23kgs!! That’s a 3% reduction on its own! That’s a lot for that little car. Looks like you’ve had some typical welly weather along the way. I still need to get the new Zelda, been a bit busy with work. And the easy solution to the garage, bikes live inside right? Who needs a lounge. 🤷♂️
No joke.. the race bike lives in the lounge now HAHA! We got to see one of those Samsung laser projectors in action yesterday and I was fantasizing playing Zelda at 130".... just not for the price of another bike. There's quite a bit of weight to go still! The Beat's weight loss journey has only just begun.
Hey, you need better/more stands. I've had a friend of friends lost to cars falling on them. It's way too easy to die that way. You need a stand, and a backup stand, and a backup to the backup. Bricks are good.

those were all perfectly acceptable reasons why this conversion takes a bit longer .. especially Zelda. Take your time, we'll be here waiting :)

It's gonna be very lean. There are some great PTC heaters to convert that box.
