    If you keep the inside of the bonnet white, you could put a pico projector on the dashboard and have your own portable drive-in movie theatre.
    The closer the projector is to your own POV, the less it'll matter that the screen isn't flat. Don't forget a label that reminds you not to operate the portable drive-in movie theatre while driving, though.

    As usual, great video! I was saying to myself USE BUTTON LATCHES!! and then there they were! Cheap polyester resins and fillers can shrink like hell, get some shrinkage in the mold and then some shrinkage in the final part and then suddenly your parts fit like garbage. Keep up the great work man! And good work getting the demister heater!

    On an electric car the weight is more negligible than the overall aerodynamics! I once converted an old Audi 80 Avant (station wagon) with some old E-Golf Parts (someone hit my car and it was a total write off, but i could use Battery, charger, motor etc because they weren't damaged! The car was in the end 250 kg heavier than the e golf, but i had the same range and the same overall consumption! The most tricky part was to implement the 27 battery modules to a completely different chassis, but in the end it worked without any issues, and you got some really strange looks when standing at an EV charging station with a 30 year old car😂! If the car is heavier, yes it takes more energy to accelerate, but you get it back when using regenerative braking! When on speed the only difference is the increased rolling resistance by the higher weight on the tires!
    Im now in the process of rebuilding that car with newer components, and a custom made battery, to have more power, range and charging speed!

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  Год назад

      Whoa, awesome!! That sounds like such a cool build, and great to hear about your range. Unfortunately I'm limited to a certain weight legally when I certify the car again. It can't be heavier than it is from the factory and the balance front to back also has to be the same. It'll be a fun challenge though! What batteries are you using it your car next?

    • @huey-fan8335
      @huey-fan8335 Год назад

      @@NewZeroland oh that's sad, in Germany I had more freedom, since the car gets fully new registered and certified! The E-Golf battery I used were from the 1st generation E-Golf (with "only " 21,4 kWh net), in a 88s3p configurations, so it has 323 V nominal voltage! In terms of lifetime, the batteries already had 150k km on them and had a SOC of ~85%, now it still has 82%! I think I'll go with LiFePO4 cells, with 100 cells in serial to get to 320 Volts nominal voltage, and I'm hoping for a higher cycle life! The Car should still be able of CCS DC fast charging (around 40-42 kW now, planned is a charging rate of max. 1,5C between 20-80% at temperatures between 10-35°C, above and below it should reduce) so I also have to wrap my head around cooling and heating the cells if necessary for a prolonged lifetime and DC fast charging capabilities below freezing and in the hot summer ! I still have the HVAC parts from the E-Golf lying around, I think I'll use them as a combined Battery and interior heat pump/AC system!
      PS: I would also love to have an Energica, but it's too expensive for me right now...well I could afford it if I wouldn't convert this old car to an EV and now making it better 🙈😂 I think it would make more sense for me to convert a old ICE bike to electric....who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Wow, I'm shocked that stock hood weighs that much, my BRZ hood is much lighter than that since it's made out of aluminum. Great job with working with what you have to still use that terrible quality piece.
    If you're really serious about weight reduction replacing the glass with Lexan would also be something to consider.
    As a 911 owner having all the weight in the back of a lightweight short wheelbase rear wheel drive car is not that big of a deal if the suspension is tuned to eliminate the snap oversteer.

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  Год назад +1

      Thanks man! I'd love to do lexan side windows but there aren't frames on the doors, so I'm not sure how well they'd hold up. I'll see how flat the stock ones are. That'd be a cool option + carbon doors 😁 Beats actually understeer more than they oversteer, so we'll see if this changes things. I'd love to be able to slide the proper way haha.

    • @spike_spencer
      @spike_spencer Год назад

      You could always do a carbon, or aluminum frame on the outer edges of lexan to stiffen it up and create bends/curves if needed.
      It's the 'snap oversteer' that sucks, because many people have to fight their natural reaction to lift off the accelerator to prevent it but yeah 911s will also understeer more until suddenly they don't...
