I love this flower! Thanks for the example to follow. A friend and I have each painted this twice and are both struggling with the yellow not being opaque enough to cover the blue background. The flower petals are more transparent than opaque. Are we using the wrong kind of yellow? I'm using cadmium yellow medium and a darker yellow light. I've tried building the colour up but not successfully. Help!
I respect that you and your friend watch the video and draw it themselves. I used Per.(Permanent) yellow light, Per. yellow orange. (They are the colors I usually use) The way I did it was to use less water to wet the brush, paint it once, and put it on again when it dried up. If you want an easier way, it will come out easily if you mix white and yellow to paint the sunflower petals first, dry them, and then yellow again on top. You can see this method in my 76# sunflower video. I hope it will help you.

Very nice painting, but I was doing it with the 9-year-old trying to teach her, and changes/skipping in the video and not being able to see the colors you used was a bit distracting.
