This painting tutorial is going to focus on painting for beginners, and specifically how to paint a sunflower. I find that many painting beginners feel intimidated by a white canvas, and struggle with self-belief and confidence. I want this painting tutorial to help give you painting confidence and to enjoy painting, even if you're a beginner.

We will be using simple painting techniques and I will show you how to use your brush to create petal shapes. We're going to be using a reference photo so you can see exactly how I paint a sunflower, step by step all in real time. I love painting flowers and sunflowers are one of the happiest around - so I want to spread happiness and positivity whilst I show you this painting for beginners.

I'm going through some very, very difficult times and painting is one of the few things that helps my sanity. I loved this Katie! So simple and insightful, I tried painting 🌻 in a different medium before and seeing this now I know what I was doing wrong there 😅 and I noticed u painted the background in the end rather than in the beginning it feels like this way it blends better with the flowers.

Thank you so much for this tutorial, just what I needed. Love painting in acrylic and watercolour but have not touched my brushes for over four years since my husband died. Have very little confidence in myself and my painting, and he always encouraged me to ‘go and do some painting’ when I felt a bit down. I love your style and when I saw you do your sunflowers just thought “ I can do that” So am going to sort out my brushes paints, and find a canvas and paint. Thank you again Katie for your understanding of how some of us feel. Looking forward to your new class.
I can't imagine how you feel but there's one little emotion that I can share. My boyfriend is the one that keeps pushing me to paint all the time and sometimes I feel like I wouldn't be able to paint again if we ever broke up and that thought scares me because I would have flashbacks of our relationship at even looking or thinking about painting.
