When I heard magic guns i immediately thought of the time when the punisher and Dr strange joined forces in one body, in a what if story it was awesome
Currently on a dnd campaign and started with a fighter with crossbow expert, level 3 battlemaster. After seeing this vid, thinking of talking to my dm about multiclassing to monk lol
Awesome vids dude. You’ve actually inspired me to try out my own builds for fictional characters, even if I’m new to the game as a whole. I’m currently trying to work on Olimar (from Pikmin) as some kind of swarm ranger with some buff spells via multiclass, and I’m working on a Coraline build (very much inspired by your Alice video). Cheers!
I also recommend checking out the Humblewood fighter, the Scofflaw. It's basically Improvised Combat- The subclass. I figure, we've seen John kill with a lot of things. Books, pencils, etc... Just a fun thing for ya!
Timeless Body isn't not aging, it's not taking penalties with age. Think the kung fu masters from those 70's movies, they were old as shit but hadn't lost a step.
This is quite the build, and I enjoyed it! If at all possible, you think you could do a build for Arc from "Skeleton Knight from Another World"? I've built up a sheet for him and made him a level 9 oath of devotion paladin and level 11 war magic wizard, but I'm curious as to what you would do for him.
I see why you stayed monk, but part of me wanted to switch to fighter 12 after monk level 6. More ASIs/feats, more extra attacks, then finish out monk for the last two levels. But I prefer the consistency of fighters extra attacks to monk's bonus features. To each their own.
Great build! Was there a reason that you stayed in Monk that long instead of adding a couple levels of Rogue to get the Assassin archetype? I think there were aspects of the Wick character (the cached wealth, the contacts at the Continental, the Romanian mafia connections, etc.) that would have been worth adding from Rogue even if it was slightly less overkill on the accuracy.
Assassin is overrated. It's primary ability requires going first or surprise. Rogue itself requires advantage or attacking from stealth to use sneak attack. He stayed in monk for three high level abilities. 1) diamond soul, 2) unerring accuracy, and 3) sharpen the blade (which can also be used for ranged kensai weapons). Also if you are using those monk abilities to improve your accuracy or damage, you'll need a lot of ki points. Rogue is a different fighting style than John Wick. He was right to go Monk for Gun-fu. The added benefit of staying monk for 17 levels, you hit like a two-handed longsword. Both your monk weapons and unarmed strikes are 1d10 now.
@@ericpeterson8732 The question isn't what makes a better fighter, its what better represents the John Wick character. I think I'd have probably gone 11 Monk / 9 Rogue. With the 11 Monk levels being the same as this build. For the 9 Rogue levels, I'd go: R1 - Expertise (Stealth), Sneak Attack, Thieves Cant R2 - Cunning Action R3 - Roguish Archetype (Assassin - Assassinate) R4 - Feat (Alert) R5 - Uncanny Dodge R6 - Expertise (Perception) R7 - Evasion R8 - Feat (Tavern Brawler or Grappler) R9 - Roguish Archetype (Assassin - Infiltration) One of the things that's important about John Wick that I think the video's build misses is that alot of his killer gun work comes because he's getting the drop on guys and making what are (in DnD terms) ranged sneak attacks or assassinations when he enters a room or comes around a corner and enters combat with surprise. In that respect, you get a more faithful interpretation of the John Wick from the second movie who shoots his way through the sewers through the combination of Expertise (Stealth and Perception), Sneak Attack, Assassinate, and Alert than by just stacking up ranged attack accuracy. Likewise, Cunning Action, Uncanny Dodge, and Evasion really represent Wick in those running gun battles where he's constantly shooting and moving to get away from superior numbers, especially because by shooting and disengaging, he can reestablish surprise and work the sneak attack and assassinate. Tavern Brawler is great for the improvised weapons (like the sheet that you see in the video), but if you don't like that Grappler is good for all the Jiu Jitsu he does. And Thieves Cant is a good representation of the language he speaks from his Roma mafia background. Just my opinion.
I actually made him a big bad in a campaign recently, as a group of nature cultists attempted to summon him, by sacrificing hearts lol, but I could definitely make him
Not officially, that's a fighter subclass in Mercer's Taldorei book and most of these build channels will only use official matieral so it can be used at most tables. Anybody can homebrew something that would replicate a character exactly but a lot of dms will probably not allow it.
I can't miss a shot I don't take, so I'll just not play D&D and I'm fine!!! Besides, there are other games that will do a much better job with "Gun-Fu" than 5E D&D does!!! Palladium's Rifts probably does it better and that damn game is stuck in the early 90s!!! I guess you could always try Savage Worlds Rifts but I don't know how far that conversion ever actually went!
Slightly surprised there wasn't a dip into Assassin given the history, but I like it. Probably because I've recently started watching it and have made it through season 1, how about Escanor the Lion Sin of Pride.
Assassin is overrated. Most killers don't fit the rogue assassin style. First there is the cover identity ability at level 9, I believe. Who has time for that in game? Then there is assassinate itself. To use effectively, it requires surprise and a high initiative. Also to use effectively, you need a lot of sneak attack. 2d6 ain't going to cut it. Death attack also requires surprise. They are fine if you play that playstyle, but John's not sneaking around. He could, but he's not. I played an Assassin and it's not as great as you think.
@eric peterson while I greatly appreciate the breakdown of the class and it's functionality, that part of the comment was made entirely based on the lore of John Wick and his former occupation. The use of Battle Master was a very solid and useful choice. Final note, I'm more caster mains than burly smasher or sneaky stabby, so I'm not holding any rogue (sub)class on a pedestal.
I am shocked with no Rogue levels rogues especially with how skillful they are always feel fun for him especially, rogues are cool especially when you pick either medicine or Arcana for expertise makes it more fun when you know more about magic than the wizard especially when you roll a nat 20 in Arcana
A character with guns that actually uses guns, I LOVE IT!!!
Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the build :D
When I heard magic guns i immediately thought of the time when the punisher and Dr strange joined forces in one body, in a what if story it was awesome
That would be a cool What If episode
Currently on a dnd campaign and started with a fighter with crossbow expert, level 3 battlemaster. After seeing this vid, thinking of talking to my dm about multiclassing to monk lol
Go for it!!!
John Wick grapples. It’s very key to his fighting style. A level of Rogue or Expertise feat could pick it up.

Before there was gunfu there was gunkata in equilibrium.
Timeless Body isn't not aging, it's not taking penalties with age. Think the kung fu masters from those 70's movies, they were old as shit but hadn't lost a step.
I’d like to see green lantern. That or an op build with no combat potential just to see what crazy non combat stuff is possible.
This is quite the build, and I enjoyed it!

Gunk, Gunk, Gunk! This better be a Gunk.
Hells YEAH!!!

Calligraphy is the skill of the God's!
surprised you didn't use John's sniper scene for the Kensai shot.
awesome job bro!!! keep it up!
I already did this build, it crazy awesome.
Asta from Black Clover
I actually made him a while back, but it led to a pretty massive copyright strike, so it's still up on my patreon, but I can't post it on RUclips
I would have taken levels in rogue or maybe one in artificer.
That's pretty good! Would love to see Arthas(death knight)/lich king build
Interesting….. I expected you to take the Improvised Weapons feat so he could kill 2 men with a pencil.
Alastor from Hazbin would be kiler
My only change would be go unarmed fighting fighter with 1 level of monk
I would recommend hajime nagumo from the anime series from common place to worlds strongest
Great build!

i rolled a nat 20 on twitch
I would've done the fighter dip earlier
I'd love to play in 1 of your games
Character Challenge: Ultron!!!!
Batman’s Scarecrow please
I feel like 1 rogue and 2 artificer levels for repeating shot would go well with this build
Sweet
I really want to challenge you. Can you build: Captain Planet?
I actually made him a big bad in a campaign recently, as a group of nature cultists attempted to summon him, by sacrificing hearts lol, but I could definitely make him

Definitely had a few Escanor requests, so he is for sure on the list

Always reliable, I feel like I'll need to send a search party if I post a video and don't see that Avocado

I was tempted to as an Assassin works for a hitman, but I really wanted to focus on a Gun-Monk
