Peyton Blotsky obviously you didn't tune it right if drop d sounded wrong, or you were listening to how he sounded rather than how the actual song sounds
This is a Legacy guitar. I don't remember what tuning this song is in atm, but if you google whatever tuning it is, you should be able to find out how to tune to it

If you go to the appstore on an ipod or the smartphone equivalent, you can buy an app called guitar tools, if you don't know how to use an electric tuner, look it up it's very easy; but, anyways you can select Drop D or various other alternative tunings and you tune it the same way you would in standard using a digital tuner. Hope I could help :)
Honestly the reason i don't try to learn guitar is these barre chords. :) I can't do them either. But Corona made me bored so i had to check If there's any songs without barre chords i could just learn casually...
I remember when I had problems with the bar chords. Try tilting your index finger to the side, depending on which hand you play. Or you could do what I used to do, which was press just the one finger bone to hold all 3 strings. I had the problem of trying to bar it, and ending up using my index finger, thinking it was only holding down one string.

@Aturn3d just wanted 2 say i think u played it differently than ur supposed to,because after u play 7 fret on the 4 string u play it open when ur supposed to play 8 fret on the fifth string.
you can change between a lot of diffrent tunes on your guitar like example: "drop C" so you get a lower tune on the guitar. I recomend you to get some sort of tuning device (wich is really cheap on the web) or just download a guitar tuner from app-store on a smartphone (if you got a smartphone) to get it right. For exampel so is standard tuning: E A D G B E (string 5-1) Meanwhile drop C is: C G C F A D (string 5-1) So get a tuning device and just google about the tuning drop C Hope it helped:)

This song is very easy to learn actually. One major thing that helps is when ur playing as fast as the song right when u repeat each tiny part I guess u could call it, get your 3rd finger on the d string then bar the e and a so you get this constent sound not a second long stop
@letitburn2981 It's not actually out of tune. This is when I was in England and didn't have a tuner so I just tuned all the strings to whatever the E string was. So...not out of tune, just in a slightly different tuning

You just have to build up muscle in your left hand. Even now, my left hand gets tired from playing bar chords after a recording session, so you just have to keep at it

Yeah same here , in drop d it does not sound the same, then I tuned to drop c and sounded a lot better, and also when I'm in drop d my 4th string when I'm on 10th fret does not sound right at all, it sounds really funky
Any guitar works for any song, but for this I would recommend an acoustic, seeing that the intro "sounds better" with acoustic (in my opinion) I play the electric myself, and found the song still compatible, having the same fingerings on the Electric Guitar and the Acoustic. Kind of life how you can play the trumpet on the horn, ect, ect.
I am new to the guitar and trying to learn this song but I am having troubles keeping it down and as well comparing me to you. And not going to lie its discouraging me... Any advice?
this video is awesome men but hey how can you get the timing right after you play D open or 3rd string open? i just can't get the timing right it sounds awkward when i do it
Just so everybody is clear, I love this guys videos and I have since i was about 15. He does not show the proper way to play the chorus. The song changes chord progressions towards the end of it. Go 8, Open, 7, 10 He also left out half of the bridge as the progression is different there as well. In short the bridge chords go 8 in bunches of four, then slide down to the 3, then back up to the 10. If you listen you WILL hear it. It's is impossible to miss. The chorus outro before the final picking part is that 2nd chorus progression I mentioned. Like I said I love this dudes videos, but there are some mistakes he makes here and there. Overall a wonderful job on Aturn3d's part. I hope this clears up any issue......Sorry I'm only more than half a decade late at this point lol.

you can find an app on the app store. i used one called Guitartuna. its free and it also comes with some tunes and more
Also give G strings a try, just bought a 80$ tuner and G strings is just as good as my highend one and its free.

@KaoruluffsHikaru no Capo. The easiest way is to pluck the 6th and 4th strings at the same time and tune the 6th down until they sound the same

if your strings are up off your fret board, take it to a shop and get it set for you (cheap) this will fix you tuning problems

drop C or D, they both work well. it just comes with preference. I like drop C better because of the more vibrant tone of the notes. :)
