Listening back to this EP was so interesting, the dated cursive singing was tough to listen to lol but there would be snippets of the chappell sound we love now. The potential was always there, so glad she found her sound. Great reaction as usual 👍
I think things have fallen into place perfectly for her! I’m so happy she’s blowing up right now because her best is yet to come! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed. :)
she performs Love Me Anyway on tour. she said her early stuff she was doing a "witchy" thing in an interview. (: if she redid the vocals i would definitely listen to these. I actually love sugar high if she just redid the vocals and maybe changed man to girl or something haha
FINALLY sat down and finished watching this (oop) but this is SO incredibly like... not even Chappell as we know her now it's so crazy. and, as i mentioned at one point, i was literally thinking "songs produced for Halsey but sung by Adele" and you made the SAME comparison i was gagged 😂 beyond that, her vocal range and tonality in this EP reminds me a lot of UK singer Låpsley in all i think this is a cool project but so much moodier than what i would expect from her. i don't really mind the California indie girl singing as much as most people, at least when it's at this level and not at the level of that one girl singing Amy Winehouse on american idol 😅 also this might not resonate if you haven't watched her but 31:18 feels like an accidental Naomi Jon impression 😭
I will have to look into both Naomi Jon and Låpsley because idk who those people are lol. The cursive singing definitely could have been worse. Just had some moments where I was like “wow that’s really annoying actually” 💀
I’m so happy someone actually reacted to this. I’m also tired of people pushing this part of her music career aside. I still really like all these songs and her style here. Proud to say that 🙄😅
i think it's really… let's say "distinct" how she basically dentalizes all her d's and t's in this EP. like it's definitely a choice, and i don't necessarily dislike it… but it's definitely one of those things where once you notice it you can't unhear it and now when i listen i'm just thinking like "why did she choose to that?" i guess it's just also sort of that early 2010s indie singer style you're talking about, along with the whole singing in cursive thing i know she'll prob never do this, but man i would love if she did a cover of this EP now with her current style 36:35 ok lmao you said the same thing. i actually want it so bad!
I think Chappell found her sound by burning out on sad topics, cursive affected singing, straight POV and just overall trend jumping. Weirdly this old EP sounds like it could be Chappell at the age of 50, and her current stuff sounds like the youthful carefree 20s.
she said before that she realized she wanted to change her music because she couldn't have fun at her concerts and it was depressing always singing sad songs. there's one interview where she says she saw some act where they had confetti and she was like I just want to do that and I can't do that with any of my songs now. I can't remember which interview it was.
i get adele and halsey/ lorde vibes from this ep and i listen to it on my playlist when im in the mood for that kinda feel i just love how it shows her extreme range i personally love her elton jogn and Fleetwood Mac covers and i could listwn to them on repeat
my brain is so rotted. everytime i hear EP i just think "eepy" and giggle 25:05 also i'd say this is literally exactly how i'd rank them too also also acoustic die young is totally better than the og, i'm with you there
are these the lyrics from apple music? cuz some of them are just deadass wrong 😂 like 1:58 is actually "run with the devil, go 'head run free. run with the devil and dream." and 17:57 is actually "oh, all of your sugar coated words" so i guess even apple's word recognition was struggling with her cursive singing 😭
THESE ARE LEGIT THE LYRICS ON APPLE MUSIC. I thought they were really weird honestly at times, but I assumed Apple lyrics were submitted by the artist 😭 And while reading/listening I also didn’t question them lmao
what's funny is I realized the other day the lyrics to Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl are wrong on Spotify. it doesn't say "hyper" mega bummer boy, which is what she's actually saying, it says "super mega" 😅@@CryoGnuin
HELP WHY CANT I GET DIE YOUNG OUT OF MY HEAD NOW 😭

This kind of feels like we're reading her slightly cringy teenage diary.
You can definitely hear her pure talent and potential though.
@@theDDutchie88 lmaoooo stop that’s so funny 💀

“Bitter feels better than trying to get better” in this song hits like a Flight of the Concords song, to be honest.

I agree with that! There are still sad songs on the new album but she’s having way more fun now!

I haven’t seen this before so I appreciate your perspective as well as bringing it to my attention!
I feel like it’s a hidden little gem! I like the songs and just want an updated version of them because she’s gotten so much better!!!
this ep reminds me of old zella day, lana, and halsey
I forgot about Zella Day! I’m gonna have to listen to her again.
I kinda hear Amy Winehouse and Fiona Apple in her inflections throughout this EP.
Really great reaction video. Thanks.
Ty! 💕

@@CryoGnuin yeah i always assumed that too! but i mean clearly they use some amount of word recognition. we can't escape the AI!
