Hopefully, he will come back sooner rather than later. He looks so handsome.

Thanks all for your inspiring coments here. I cannot tell how devastated I feel about this amazing couple storyline…😢It seems that somehow we put a little of our own lifes and expectations on them only to see how writers have managed to ruin everything. A big thank you to Max and Tony for their amazing performance and for reaching our hearts and make us truly believe in the gratest of all powers: the power of love.

    Love seeing Max! ❤
Seeing more of his current work makes me wonder if his exit as Ben Mitchell wasn’t really a “somewhat planned” move to allow him to do more work?

Great to see Max again and looking very, very handsome! He did some of his best work at the end of his stint in EastEnders and I've stopped watching it since they destroyed Ballum ... not the same without Ben and Callum who made such a wonderful couple. Wish Max all the very best and reckon he'll go on to bigger and better. It's EastEnders loss!

It is indeed! Ballum still had so much potential ...

@@frugolotti Thanks Simona. I actually felt that Ben and Callum were never given a fair go. Right from very the beginning one crisis after another was thrown at them. The chemistry was so wonderful and I remember commenting several times that all we really wanted to see was the two of them settling down, loving each other and and enjoying their life together. But no, if it wasn't Ben losing his hearing, being kidnapped, being accosted it was Ben sort of going through some sort of eating disorder ... poor guy was never left alone! They should have kept him and now they've lost a lot of viewers because I find EastEnders quite boring without them to look forward to. Cheers

@@Terry-dl4nf I see what you mean, Terry. Totally. And I’ve long stopped watching, even before Ben left, since - as you point out - EE could never be trusted to do justice to this amazing partnership. The problem is that Ballum were created as part of a soap, which typically thrives on (over)dramatic, generally toxic, sometimes morbid storylines with little interest in character development or accurate/wholesome representation. That’s why I’ve come to see Ballum as kind of a little miracle, for which we should thank a handful of showrunners/writers who really cared for them, some good, insightful writing as well as the insane chemistry and commitment shown by Max and Tony. A fragile balance that us fans took for granted but that could be shattered at any time. Personally, I was fooled by Lola’s death and Ben’s most recent heavy storylines (r*pe+ED) into thinking they would invest in Ballum as a permanent element of the show. I truly believed the whole point of getting rid of Lexi’s mum was to give her a queer little family with her two dads. Instead, they went for that ridiculous, homophobic PR storyline to make Jay relevant (what a failure!). And as for Ben’s struggles with mental health, I never thought they would exploit the shock value of his trauma without granting him any aftermath. I can’t put into words how insulting I find exploiting MH issues for “entertainment” or to increase ratings without exploring the consequences or giving hope/representation to that part of the audience who identifies with Ben. There was so much they could have done with them - explore Callum’s past and develop him more as a character, portray Ben’s recovery, show them overcoming their intimacy issues, raising a motherless, potentially unruly Lexi, having their own child… not happy all the time, of course, but always together, supporting and loving each other. What a waste... Apologies for the endless reply. 🙏Cheers.

@@frugolotti Thanks so much for your intelligent and really insightful reply. It wasn't just Ballum that's been destroyed, it was also Robert and Aaron and now Coronation Street is getting rid of Paul. It's taken me quite a while to come to terms with investing so much emotion into amazing love stories, only to have them thrown into the dustbin by writers who have no understanding of what fans really want. But I've finally come to realise that I just have to let it go because it's part of the nature of Soaps, where the characters are real actors who have a life outside of the shows they're in. So we just have to enjoy it while it lasts and accept that it isn't true life and will end (probably badly in the hands of poor script-writing).
OK, the actor who played Robert wanted to leave the show, so it was difficult, but the Emmerdale producers and writer handled it so badly and made a mockery of all the professions of everlasting love between Aaron and Robert, But when the producers decide to get rid of actors, as they appear to have done with Ben and Paul, there's just no excuse and it feels like a slap in the face. Both Max Boden and Peter Ash did their best work after they were dumped and don't appear to have even complained in public. Their professionalism has been first rate.
And your so right in what you say about the weird story-lines that Max/ Ben was given. Like the Lexi 3 dads crap, several of Ben's stories just petered out without development or explanation. Consistency of character and story-line development sure isn't a strong point in Soaps!
Thanks Simona, it's been a pleasure chatting. (PS I forgot the Carter & John Paul story in Hollyoaks, another gay story where the 2 actors had some amazing chemistry but the script-writers destroyed it almost before it had begun!)
